I had a frenulectomy when I was 12 in 1988, before I got my braces. It was traumatizing! Dental surgeon and his male assistant looming over me, burning and cutting the tissue. I can still smell the burning flesh and see the smoke coming from my mouth. I also had teeth pulled...it was all very traumatizing and I hated going to the dentist up until just a few years ago. I mean, I'm glad I got my braces and my teeth are straight, but they really should have properly explained what they were going to do to better prepare me for it.
Nowadays to cut lip and tongue ties they use what’s called a “waterlase” so it’s not hot and smoking. My son had his cut a 3 months old as he couldn’t feed from breast or bottle as his ties were so tight, he hardly cried and both were done in under a minute, and more importantly he was able to breastfeed and latch perfectly without pain (on me) or him gasping or having milk go all down the side of his face.
Retired RDA/CDA here. My sis got veneers to deal with the tetracycline stains on her teeth. Her stains aren't that bad, so they don't show through the veneers. Great result for her and she was able to keep most of her natural tooth structure.
exactly what happened to me - went to a many dentists over the past 30 years and eventually ended up to have crowns and bridges on every single tooth - I mujst have paid over 50K+ over the years, just to end up to get all teeth pulled, and have 8 implants which support a pair of full dentures - that also was about 40K+ .... so, now I only serve as an example to my kids to keep their teeth clean - I take my dentures out, and smile at the kids whereas I show off my abutments and explain about the screws the dentist drilled into my bone, and how painful it was (it really wasn't painful at all, but it looks painful) and I tell them to brush their damn teeth, it will save them pain and about a $100k over a lifetime ...
That’s my fear, I’m gonna spend a fortune on crowns then end up needing them pulled anyway. So I wonder if I’m better off paying for implant supported dentures or fixed bridge to start. Sucks and I wish I’d been warned more to take better care of my teeth

12:07 my mom was really mean about soft food when I started braces. She thought I was making it up (even though my DAD AND BROTHERS ALL HADE IT TOO!) then she got braces (this was relatively recent) and I got a JUICY apology that felt good! Still salty tho bc she got to accommodate her pain and she refused to do the same for me 😐
Honestly, I know I'm going to end up in full-on dentures by my mid 30's due to the fact that I rarely ever brushed my teeth due to depression until a... dental scare(?) shot me back into brushing my teeth no matter if I was too depressed to do so or not.
Start taking care and going to a dentist now. I thought same thing and put it off until my mid 40s. I had to have a bunch of extractions but was able to keep 20 teeth doing crowns on them.
Start taking care of your teeth, try going to a dental school to get work done cheaper if you can. Find a good dentist you trust- mine never pushes me to get work done, we’re monitoring my large fillings and I get one crown done at a time as needed. My teeth are a mess, I need tons of crowns on all my molars and some pre molars. It sucks, I’m gonna go broke fixing my teeth. So many people in my family have bad teeth due to poor hygiene and I wish I’d been taught to take better care of my teeth 😞
@@SilverDergboldfree state insurance covers the dentist ! Also how long did you not brush your teeth often? I used to go long times not brushing as well due to drug addiction. Floss, brush you can save your teeth like I did ! I did have 11 cavities and have to get 2 teeth pulled after I got in recovery tho.

Chipped teeth are always iffy....my brother cracked me in the mouth with a rock and it only chipped my front tooth JUST BARELY...it made a tiny little bump in the middle of my front tooth, but the damage was EXTREME! What we didnt know at the time when the dentist checked my tooth, he said it was minimal chipping and said it was fine. But what really happened (that we figured out almost 10 years later), he cracked the root of my tooth below the gum line and an abscess began to form. Had issues with the tooth off and on but it wasnt until i was 17 when i got a huge abscess above the tooth that the dentist did anything. Had to have 2 root canals, and eventually had to get it pulled and a partial put in
About the first one, it's great that you're teaching us everything, but those shark teeth looks horrendous, I wouldn't do it even if I didn't know they're bad 😬

I had a procedure done in front. I had a gap between my baby teeth due to quite thick tissue in between. Ortho cut it in half, I think, it bled like heck. Braces had my adult teeth come together in front. Had to get braces because baby teeth refused to fall out (had to have them all pulled save my 2 upper front ones). Anyway, my dad kept his gap his whole life but my mom just hated this on me and so I had no say in it. At one point I regretted she had this done, but now, my God so grateful she did. Anyway, I just discovered your channel. Love the common sense on here. My grandpa always said that you need to keep your own teeth for as long as you can. He said it to all his kids & grandkids.
I always loved sticking things in between my bottom teeth which are very much prone to getting calculus, and the calculus that got in between my teeth would always be pushed out by random objects
I got my braces off 2 days ago, I had the goop. I had to do it 3 times. The first girl who did it used the wrong size and it made me gag so bad. The 2nd girl used the correct size and it just tasted bad, I could actually breathe that time!

had to get these done for like my front teeth cause as a kid i didnt brush my teeth and just overall had bad mouth hygiene wish i had my natural teeth still but oh well atleast my smile looks better now

You have helped me so much. I actually use to never brush my teeth and would only have them brushed 2x a year at the dentist. I then started brushing my teeth at only night but then I was educated my your videos. I went to my last dentist appointment nov 1 and I have been brushing every morning and night and I have been using the Colgate wisps after eating lunch. I also use mouthwash and I floss. I have a underbite and severe crowding so I am hoping to get braces soon I had a consultation of nov 29. So thank you for educating me of the importance of brushing my teeth.
I had the same thing, but with like the thing you under my tongue, it’s called tongue tie, whatever instead of a lip ties called a tongue tie I think when I was like a couple months old, they just got some scissors and they just clipped it off
I don't gag but I do like cough up spit because spit gets stuck in my throat so for me to breathe I have to cough it up and it makes it so hard for them to do anything in my mouth. I do feel bad for them as they try to get me to not move but it is so hard. Which if I could control it then I would. When I cough up the spit it just messes them up. Sometimes I hold it in to hard where I will puke so I can breathe. I do feel bad for them though. I wish I could control it.

I got crowns on my four front teeth because I had so much decay because my mother never took care of my teeth and if would it had healthy teeth I would have never gotten them

Wait, crowns need to be redone every 10 years? I'm 30 now, but I got a crown done in middle school that's still going strong. That was because 2/3 of my tooth got knocked out when I tripped and faceplanted into a metal bar, but it's never given me any issues
I had to get braces in my Senior year of HS. I couldn't wait to get them off. When they were I would smile in every mirror I saw. Unfortunately, I had to get a retainer and we had to move back to the States from Frankfurt, Germany. My wisdom teeth came in and that was the end of that. :P
