Most people have never heard this symphony and man, they are missing out. It's got one of the best opening lines in music as well as one of the most original endings. This a very approachable Prokofiev unlike what you might get with the 6th sonata or 2nd concerto. All that said, the 6th symphony tops them all and probably the best thing he ever wrote. I can't wait until you give that a go.

Or the second symphony lol, would be funny if he reacted to the 2nd symphony after this one😂

Oh my goodness that was so gooood. Why did I pass on this symphony so many times 😭😭(i have it in my spotify library ) i was hooked the whole time!! So melodious and lyrical, while retaining that playful ingenious writing, and the ending.. only Prokofiev can turn a frantic carnival parade into a movingly beautiful conclusion

This is one of Prokofiev's most accessible pieces. As you are learning, Prokofiev wrote in many styles. Another (even more accessible) piece is Prokofiev's 'Classical' symphony, which, I'm pleased to say, you have now listened to.

Prokofiev symphony 1 also doesn't sound like typical Prokofiev. Its nicknamed the classical symphony because he imitates mozart/hadyn, and adds his own style

I love this symphony. Every symphony is totally totally different. I find it hard to pick a favourite symphony by Prokofiev because I like them all. 😀

I am studying classical music since 1990, and I don't know very well the works of this composer yet.

Bro if you hadn't already done, you have to discover the piano concerto no.3 by Prokofiev, it feels just like an adventure and it's full of emotional and dramatic moments

When I played this in Youth Symphony, the 4th movement had a coda that reprised the beginning of that movement. The first time I heard the original version without the coda, it was pretty jarring. But this was an excellent performance, so I think I'm coming around!
@Draspber
@Draspber 9 месяцев назад
Do you like that (faster) ending? In my opinion it ruins the whole movement and, as far as I know, Prokofiev wrote it just because he was ill and he wanted to win the prize for this symphony..
@harryjohnston3721
@harryjohnston3721 9 месяцев назад
@@Draspber Yeah exactly. He actually said that after his death he didn't want that ending to be played EVER. It confuses me why conductors still include that ending even Prokofiev himself hated it
@MusicBlik
@MusicBlik 9 месяцев назад
@@Draspber I like it because that's the way I first came to know it. This symphony was my first exposure to Prokofiev (aside from "Peter and the Wolf"), so the faster ending pleased my Romantic sensibilities. I've always preferred things to end with a bang instead of a whimper. My growing appreciation of the original ending is a recent thing.

Very nice reaction! You should react to Prokofiev's 6th piano sonata, it's a banger!

One piece I’ve discovered is the Florida Suite by Fredrick Delius, which was inspired by the composer’s time working on a plantation in Florida illustrating the the life and culture present. Also, I have to reccomend Cornelis Dopper’s 7th symphony. The piece is practically forgotten, but I really enjoy it and the final movement is absolutely invigorating. Finally, I have to reccomend Mahler’s 1st symphony. The entire piece is an emotional rollercoaster, absolutely invigorating

Please listen to the Violin Concerto No. 1 of Nikolai Rakov. It is very melodic and has even some jazz elements in the final movement ^-))

Hi gidi, you should try Prokofiev sonata op.84 in b flat minor ;)
@slubert

Prokofiev wasnt trying to be creative or provocative with this composition. Prokofiev had allready mastered his craft. A composer that just sits by the piano and writes a symphony for fun. Like a stream of consciousness with no trouble or overthinking.

Next recommend: Durufle Requiem - in the version sung by Trinity College Choir, filmed recently in 4K at St Eustache church in Paris. Amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z1Wx87CtFPQ.html

Has anyone asked you to review anything by Alma Deutscher? She is a amazing composer of classical music and a concert quality violinist, pianist and conductor. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2019 at the age of 12. I would tell you more but I don't want to spoil the fun of discovery for you.

Shes not that great tho, well no thats not true, there is one piece with the trafic or something that somehow goes into a beautiful melody, that quite great indeed. But the rest, nah dude

not hating on her or anything but honestly kinda overrated

100% agree. Alma Deutscher is a prodigy in her own field, and it is a shame many people are quick to critique her music without considering her musical philosophy. Her talent, while unpolished, is nothing to scoff at.
