If there's such a thing as jamming out in classical music then it is this. Thank you so much for your reaction!

One of the things Hilary Hahn is really outstanding at is making really challenging music easier to understand. I have her recording of the Charles Ives violin sonatas. Ives is complicated and I've heard his violin sonatas sound confusing or aimless; hearing Hilary play those sonatas, I felt like they suddenly made perfect sense.

It's definitely an amazing and exhilarating concerto! Hilary completely wrecks it!

I get the feeling some of the Prokofiev super-fans might have gotten a little bit annoyed. I absolutely love this concerto, yet I've seen others describe it as 'atonal', which of course it isn't. In fact I generally have little to no use for atonal music. I just find it strange that people listen to this, and are apparently hearing what I hear when I listen to Schoenberg.

Good piece. I wasn't even aware of the fact that Prokofiev wrote Violin Concertos lol

Omggg Love love this work, it’s just profusely creative …and that second movement ..that middle part is supposed to sound like THAT..absolute shredder Prokofiev woke up and chose METAL..what a JAM..The energy this mans mind exudes..grotesque dances, irony, gloom, and those beams of lyrical light, frustration, exhaustion, acceptance…my man bundled it all..its like he created a mini-life for these pieces to have. The more I listen to Prokofiev the more clear his works/writing become….

This is the kind of music that Hilary Hahn is great at.

Thank you so much! I've mentioned this many times hoping you would do it, and you didn't disappoint. One of my absolute favorite concertos. The melodies, and the orchestration are just stunning. And of course Hilary is the violin goddess as always. I think your comments about Prokofiev are spot-on. It's not the easiest piece to come to terms with. Probably due to being a 20th century composition. The Shostakovitch violin concerto is the same way (only more so). The harmonic complexity, and the dissonance are more difficult in the beginning, but the more you listen to it, the more it gets under your skin.

I was waiting for a video on this request as if it was my request :D An incredible concerto. Sometimes crazy, sarcastic (especially scherzo), sometimes lyrical and beautiful. I hope one day there will be a reaction to Prokofiev's second violin concerto (: It is more "mature" imo

I never listened to masters Violin Concerto. The most pleasant music Prokofiev has ever written can be found, I believe so, in Peter und der Wolf.

Prokofiev's violin sonatas are also really interesting pieces! Both of them are more "chill" than all the other Prokofiev pieces you've listened to so far. No.2 is a really popular sonata, the total opposite of no.1 which is almost never performed but both are equally amazing. For no.2 I love the recording done by Augustin Hadelich it's sooo clean. No.1 definitely check out the David Oistrakh and Richter recording. Side note, are comments with links automatically deleted? My first comment didn't get through

There is a Prokofiev piece most people love on their first listen because it is very rhythmically intense yet still pretty digestible on the first listen (unlike a lot of Prok´s music which steers off into harmonic insanity very fast). It´s also very short, only about 3 minutes. It´s the third movement of his 7th Sonata. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JTVZnukVXWE.html

Just discovered your content. Absolutely love it! I dont know if you have already covered this piece, but William Grant Still's first symphony is one of my favorites. It wonderfully fuses jazz and classical into the symphonic form. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x4wVSdzWd-M.html
