That's a cover of a Jimi Hendrix tune, most call it blues rock.. You should give a listen to Stevie doing "Little Wing", it's a great instrumental and a cover of another Hendrix tune.

Hey IYG, This video came up in my feed, as I like to watch SRV reactions. Watched and subscribed. Consider this reaction as your proper introduction to SRV's music. This is, of course, his superb cover of a great Jimi Hendrix song. If Jimi was the best guitarist who ever lived, then SRV is sitting at his right hand side. I will agree with most others that you now owe it to yourself to react to Texas Flood live at the El Mocombo. It's a must see, and some of the greatest guitar playing ever recorded. Otherwise, thanks for the Vlog where you say where you're from (not too familiar with Welsh, and your accent was giving me fits trying to guess!). It was also nice seeing your first Tatt. Well done! Looking forward to more. Thanks, IYG!

This is straight up rock and roll. Song was written and originally performed by guitar trailblazer, Jimi Hendrix. SRV came along some 15 years after the death of Jimi and took the rock/blues guitar to another level. There are many great SRV songs. You just scratched the surface here, but check them out live because SRV can do some tricks with guitar that will surprise you. He is the GOAT in this genre of guitar.

I love to watch people discover Stevie and Double Trouble. He's from "my time," and is the greatest ever. There are tons of great videos of his performances (Thank God!). Start with anything from the performance at El Mocambo (particularly "Texas Flood" and "Little Wing"). Then go to the show at the Capitol Theater, Passaic NJ, 1985 (particularly "Life Without You" and "Couldn't Stand the Weather). Well--then this is more. You can't go wrong. He plays a mix of rock and blues. So you'll see the influences of both--particularly blues. Just spectacular guitar work--and Double Trouble--the guys behind him--are all great in their own right. Welcome aboard.

If you want Stevie's greatest single performance watch his "Life Without You" at Capitol Theatre. He switches/tunes his guitars, adjusts his amps, drops his pick, and loses a tooth. All of this happens during the song and if there wasn't video evidence no one would have known any of it. Because you can't tell by only listening to the music.

I want to say to everybody who criticized this young lady for not knowing SRV or knowing the genre of music to relax, take a breath. It's okay. Remember we all learn eventually. We can't all be born in Texas number one. Or been around the influence of this type of music. And truthfully no one can say they've heard EVERY musician. Our jobs are to encourage and spread the joys of the music that brings out those hidden emotions in us to others. So, be ENCOURAGING, not discouraging. Have a great day dear, and keep exploring!
@HareDeLune
@HareDeLune 2 года назад
Agreed. Everyone has a different knowledge pool, and she probably could name a dozen bands and musicians off the top of her head that they'd never heard of. There is a great amount of knowledge out there to know. So much so that no one can absorb more than a fraction of it in a lifetime. However, it is a bit saddening to see much of what is generally known today being homogenized by the dominance of the media industry.

A very humble man, from Dallas TX that seemed to relate with everyone. He failed music class and never learned how to read music. Started playing in bars at 14 and dropped out of high school to play in bands F/T. He played with all his heart and soul up to his last few hours on earth. He had so much respect from all the blues players like B.B. King & Buddy Guy. He arrived at a concert in Red Rocks in Colorado USA. B.B. King was onstage playing. Stevie asked why. They told B.B. was opening Stevie & Double Trouble. Stevie became seriously upset and made sure none of those blues legends opened one of his shows. SRV didn't just play the guitar, he used it as a means to play his emotions through it. It was if he was born with the damn thing. Playing guitar came to him as naturally as putting one foot in front of the other. He owned that instrument, total control, total expression, zen if you will. When he was bending those three strings at the end of Voodoo Chile it was like he was making love to it.

"Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" was originally written and performed by Jimi Hendrix. From 1968 (when the song was released on Electric Ladyland) until Hendrix's death, the song was constantly featured in all of Hendrix's live performances to showcase his guitar virtuosity. Stevie Ray Vaughan would often state, in interviews, that Jimi Hendrix's playing has the biggest influence on him and his guitar playing style.

Stevie is a guitar God. (capitol G) David Bowie wanted him to play in his band on tour in the 80's and Stevie went back to his own band. Eric Clapton had his band open for him on tour. In Clapton's own words, " I remember being fascinated by the fact that he never ever seemed to be lost in any way. It wasn’t ever that he took a breather or paused to think where he was going to go next. It just flowed out of him. Always seemed to flow out of him and actually even that doesn’t come just with virtuosity, practice or any of those. It’s not a question of doing it over and over again or anything like that. It’s just that he seemed to be an open channel. He just flowed through him, he never ever seemed to kind of dry up.”

One of the best tracks Stevie Ray ever did was "Riviera Paradise" which was recorded at the very end of a session, and the tale is told that he got to grooving in the booth and didn't see the sound engineer telling him to stop... the band was able to segue into the coda section, Stevie played it with them, and they ended the song just as the recording tape ran out. There were no retakes, as the helicopter crash that killed him happened very shortly after. That one tape was all they had to work with.

The original Jimi Hendrix version was a psychedelic-blues hybrid. Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover was virtuoso blues rock! I like Vaughan's cover the best, because he took it to that extreme level. And, he was from Dallas, Texas. He moved to Austin and made it big. It was a tragedy to lose him in that helicopter crash in 1990.

This is the blues rock, the greatest blues rock guitarist of all time. Gone too soon. The song was originally by Jimi Hendrix.

Stevie was a blues player but this song is pure Rock-n-Roll.

Stevie gets put in the rock category a lot for obvious reasons. Blues. Thats what he was. Texas blues. He was the baddest gunslinger that ever lived. I was blessed to have seen him in concert in 1990, 2 days before he died.

This is Texas Blues from one of the best guitarists ever. And that's called a "stank" face. This cover was originally performed by Jimi Hendrix and he played it as an homage to him. He uses very heavy gauge strings giving him his distinct sound.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Austin City Limits, live 81 or 83, Voodoo Child cover the. Greatest blues guitarist and singer, ever! This is a Hendrix cover. Bowie had him play on his Let's dance , album. Then asked him to join his band. SRV turned him down!!😮😮 Greatest guitarist ever!! Died young, leaving the Montreux Jazz Festival, in a terrible helicopter crash. RIP to SRV. U should watch all his Austin City Limits, concerts! Ironically, first time he went to Montreaux, he was booed mercilessly, they felt he wasn't Jazz enough! When he went back in 95, he was treated as the reigning god of the show! And then he died...if u watch just one more of his vids, it should be from this show, Texas Flood! His look, blues voice, guitar ability, showmanship... God purpose built this man to play the Blues! There's been a lot of great guitarists , but combined with his voice, look, presence, voice, showmanship and ability , there's only him. Besides Eddie Van Halens' Frankenstein guitar, this is the most valuable guitar on the planet, and his brother, Jimmy Vaughn, has it! If u asked people for a list of top 20 guitarist all time, most people's would be very similar. But if u said, out of that list, who's complete... stage showmanship, ability, presence, perfect voice to the music, no thinking or delay in his freestyle, song writing, etc., There's only SRV!

When he bends over, I have always assumed he was adjusting something on the board not picking up a pick, because anyone that could grab a pick off the floor that smooth is not human, but then again Stevie was not human.
