Imagine how shocked I was when i found out that Alan Oppenheimer not only voiced Skeletor from He-Man, but also Falcor from The Never Ending Story!! :D

Despite the original show not aging well, having reuse animation cel, and tons of absurd episodes, it’s still a pretty good cartoon and I dare say, a bit ahead of time from it story telling and ideas. Also, Plundor should’ve been a recurring character in my opinion. Let’s hope he appear in the reboot cartoon.

Honestly as someone who did not watch the original as a kid I found the show actually really good for what it is.

I'm a bit late responding (my first time responding to your work, Rob--thanks for all you do, by the way! I've been watching you since 2017.) I could go on and on about one of my favorite and most impacting childhood shows, but for now I just want to mention a couple things not covered in the video. One being about the morals; how I think Filmation succeeded with their morals and PSAs for their shows, HeMan in particular, was that they usually went beyond just the safety tips from grade school and got into actual character and decency building. For every clip about don't talk to strangers, eat healthy, do well in school etc., there were more clips about work for what you want, fear is natural, learn to forgive, back away from fights, help out others when they're down, you get what you give, live for today, admit your mistakes etc. The other thing that really surprised me---no mention at all about Lou Scheimer? Especially about the fact that he supplied the majority of character voices throughout the show. That could explain the so many weird voices (e.g. Syclone) so you don't get ten different characters with Trap Jaw's voice all the time. I got to give you some big credit slogging through the series like trying to eat everything at a buffet. If it didn't age right (how many beloved and influential decades-old shows do, really?) it still has its charm and impact. And Orko.

He-Man fell foul of the same problem that left Aquaman reduced to "the guy who talks to fish" - networks were so scared that these kind of programmes would teach kids to solve their problems with violence that they watered it down as much as possible. "Okay, so He-man can smash vehicles, buildings and robots, but if he fights a PERSON he just judo-tosses them, got it?" I think even in its heyday some fans were watching this and thinking "This would be even cooler if they just let He-Man actually kick ass".

He-man and the masters of the universe it's a brilliant 80's cartoon show and it's still kick ass. 😀👍

The PSAs in MOTU were always tacked on. Absolutely no thought was put into them, but it kept the parent/teacher groups happy. For a while.

I think the reason why Skeletor wasn't utilized so much in the first season was mostly to make him seem like a threat. I guess there was more demand to keep using Skeletor rather than these Filmation OC's because you gotta sell your bad guys too. I remember there was an episode similar to the games only the alien was more like some omnipotent god and after Skeletor caused some trouble the entity decides to pit He-Man and Skeletor one on one with it ending on He-Man showing his moral high ground causing the entity to return everything to normal and leave in order to re-evaluate how it perceives lesser beings. Also a fun thing (which I think you should try with your DVDs) the Spanish track actually has lyrics for the theme song. You can't make out what it says over the narration in the opening, but it is audible in the credits. I just think it's pretty neat that somebody added lyrics anyway.

I fully admit that this show was before my time but I am a he man fan thanks to the 2003 cartoon which I think fixes most of the problems with the original like how in that show Adam looks and sounds like a teenager while He-man looks like an adult.

Rob, I think the PSAs were hamFISTED because the networks FORCED Filmation to CRAM them in. Terrible, terrible jokes aside, thank you for another great Cartoon Clipshow episode. I only have vague memories of watching the show as I was a bit too young when it originally aired, and it was shown on primetime here in Manila. Regardless of the show's writing and animation quality, it's stil a fond icon of our childhood that isn't afraid to make fun of itself. Can;'t wait for the She-Ra feature!

I enjoyed this review a lot. I recently finished watching all 130 episodes of He-man which is something I never thought I'll actually do.

I actually consider Masters of the Universe very body positive. It's that and superheroes in general I grew up with that motivated me to get into health and fitness as I reached adulthood and stay in shape.

Yes I know very corny and weird and those psa's yeah they're very silly too but I would say I would send the dragon to gift is probably one of their best episodes and it's equal so there are some good episodes and there are some bad episodes but once in awhile when you're feeling blue and you want to see the good guys win in the bad guys lose He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is always fun

I may give "He-Man" a watch someday, mostly for Skeletor and those good episodes you mentioned (like the ones discussing the origins of Prince Adam's mother). As for all the parodies made of this show, my favorite has to be the "Wander Over Yonder" episode 'The Cartoon.' It's like if somebody took the premise of 'The Nightman Cometh' from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and gave it a He-Man coat of paint. Plus, it helps that Lord Hater is basically a modern version of Skeletor with a Dr. Seuss/Looney Tunes flair, so it was a perfect match. Can't wait for your review of the original "She-Ra."

Also If your disappointed your favourite MOTU characters didn't appear up in that show just check out Gbagok's fanart, he's made almost all of them in that style. Even the She-Ra and obscure lore characters, all with much better designs.

Hey! Bravestarr actually had decent animation quality... and was far more complex and interesting than any of it's Filmation predecessors... unfortunately it was the last of their animated output, so yeah... I guess they finally got things right just in time to go under.
