one thing that really make me love your channel is that it showcased the fact that people from different backgrounds and perspectives come together into this tiny red dot, and yet there are not much social disharmony. that's what really make this place special

Nice; Kelvin’s here. As a fellow migrant from several other countries that turned local, Kelvin’s points from a non-expat is refreshing. Good job Max for having more subjects that aren’t the usual corporate sponsored expats. Not that there’s anything wrong with those guests but stories from those who eventually became local (even non citizens) particular those like us who came from Asia arent told often enough.

Retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My parents both spent same number of years in the civil service, but my mom was investing through a wealth manager, and my dad through the 401k.

Its unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $87k passively by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.

Firms can be unscrupulous as they prioritise their own commission over your profitability. On the other hand, I prefer working with individual investors like Vivian Carol Gioia, who only take a share from your profits, not your initial capital. I must say, my experience with her has been exceptional thus far.

very refreshing interview. very honest and spoke from the heart. Singapore, regardless of its imperfections, is really a wonderful place to live. Those who criticize it are (mostly) armchair critics who have never lived here, nor understand its past and the tremendous progress it has made. By this I mean uplifting its people from poverty. Most are NOT millionaires but they have very comfortable lives. Also the typical Singaporean is generally humble and very low-key. they do not flaunt their wealth. Even if you EXCLUDE the value of their homes, about 10% are US dollar millionaires. But you won,t be able to tell walking the streets.

😅😊YEs agree , I think by saying Everything in Singapore build by British and commenting Singapore is just a place for immigrants / everything is built by LKY ( Singaporean have little to no contributions ) Not very proper . He is a Malaysian . He come to Singapore to start a family , he benefit from this. But he should ALSO always remember to respect that Singapore have locals born people who sacrifice and followed LKY policy to serve the compulsory national service + 10 years reservist and older Singaporean who work hard in following LKY policy from building of 1st HDB to now . likewise Malaysia also same story , does he thinks Malaysian are immigrants only. 😂i think Malaysian will be very angry if a random Singaporean goes there start a family and business / buying 1mil below property and later comment that , ( Malaysia is an immigrant country , people are descendants from Fujian and Guangdong mostly and its built by the prime minister and not the people .. stuff like that ) So i feel he is quite arrogant , because to be honest . he is able to do come to Singapore to start a family / getting CPF / buying subsidies housing is all just because of welcoming government policy . So he should be grateful instead , especially when he is holding a CPF account in singapore.

But if couple need to use up their cpf monthly to pay loans then they will have insufficient savings for retirement. 1 reason why old pple still work as guards, cleaners is bcos when they were younger, their salary scale were much lower therefore insufficient to retire

Kelvin before mid 80s there’s no such thing as Bak ku Teh and hainanese Chicken rice existed in Malaysia. Today it existed is because the Malaysian starts working here In literally almost every trade and that includes F&B especially which are over whelm by the Malaysian… after working here all you lads have learnt you country man brought it back to Malaysia and miraculously it suddenly became Malaysian food that included the brown Kaya (green one was originally from malacca the peranakan community) . I have met quite many Singaporeans through the years, it’s incredible how wealthcrazy theses people were, worked god knows how much to make it to the top. Seemed as if life is all about money, so true to their chinese ancestors. Anyway, it is a overadvertised country.

I don’t understand the mentality of sgreans being critical about people changing their nationality to sgreans. A professor once said (sic), “it doesn’t matter where u r born, but where u can make a living, settle down and contribute to society.”

Well, for this minority of singaporeans think it is unjust for the majority of the population who did no NS and reservist liability to receive the same benefits like them who had to make sacrifice. For the competitive society like Singapore, they see this NS/reservist liability as a disadvantage to their life and career.

SG work policy is based on the fundamental that everyone must earn their money to support themself / self sustenance being gainfully employed and have savings. The Chinese says, 有做有的吃。Literally if u work u can have food to eat.

Kelvin is very pragmatic about life in Singapore. What's the point of complaining? Do something about it. Think beyond the frowns and eye rolling while still appreciate some things in the Singapore life. There are still things to be grateful for and take advantage of. I've watched some of his videos on investment, looks food. Passive income is definitely one of the ways to survive and strife in Singapore. I have since geared towards that direction. Hope to retire in a few years' time.

My advice for young working adults. 1st highest Priority is to Start to "Invest" into the Guarantee & high interest rates (4%) CPF SA once you start working. To have a million in your CPF (SA+RA) at age 65. Time is the critical factor. Start early as young as possible & be Patience & have faith in our CPF system. The next highest priority is to be very focus to make use of your "BIRTH RIGHT" to buy your 1st heavily subsidize govt BTO or Resale HDB (HDB grant) or EC condo if possible, between age 30-40. Follow this formula. You will be fine to retire with ease at age 65. The next priority - Buy Insurance for protection. In the event of an emergency such as an illness or accident, you will lose your hard-earned money overnight & fall into poverty. Your retirement years of planning will be derailed. Lastly, health is wealth. Exercise regularly

Singapore is a great place for work opportunities, while Malaysia is great for living. If you love efficiency, Singapore will be nice. But if you prefer slower place of life, Malaysia may be a good consideration.

Ya right! Malaysia offers a third world salary but the cost of living now is the first world. It is no longer cheap and affords not only to local but to expat. And you know why the causeway is always jammed on both sides? Because Malaysia knows they get more value shopping and eating in Singapore than in JB and most importantly is a safe place for families with children and handicaps. Just so you know..

@YanQi. 10 месяцев назад
@@obeydaud2059 yeah that true. Otherwise why is there a jam every weekend on both sides. you think they use peanut oil to cook for you? 🤣🤣🤣 How about plastic for. Considering the fact that there is no health authority to monitor the quality there. If you add all that up. Plus the cost of living in Malaysia has gone up so much, even locals also find it very expensive to eat out now. Those who can afford it would rather come to singapore. In terms of quality, service and safety also. Even foodcourt in Singapore is better than those in jb plus affordable. Add all that up. Perhaps you will understand why Malaysians rather spend their weekends here than in JB.

Kelvin is good, and many of his videos are quite informative. I suspect when he converted to be a Singaporean, it was also the time he made 15K a month. So, i am not sure if he really made a good move. But, if it is for his children, then of course it is a different story.

Many Singaporeans lack perspective. Like what Kelvin said, an iPhone can cost a Malaysian 1-3 months salary compared to a Singaporean which might cost half a month's. Singapore is expensive? We still have $3-$5 caifan for fresh uni grads making SGD3.5k. Malaysian fresh uni grads making RM3k now are facing RM9 caifan. Of course we go to Malaysia and see wow, everything is so cheap, because of the strong SGD. And like he said, because of the strong SGD, you have many options. A lot of Singaporeans are living in JB/Batam and even making the daily commute to work in SG, but are you willing to live with the inconveniences, not just with the commute, but with the bureaucracy in other countries?

Different people will have different perspectives. And take what Kelvin said about passport and driver's license renewal with a grain of salt. Passport and driving license can be renewed online in Malaysia unlike what he said. How about buying a condo or landed bungalow. A single person in Malaysia can buy a condo anytime for a few hundred k. Condo in Singapore is expensive. If you are single and want a cheaper HDB, got to wait till you are 35 years old. Let's not even talk about buying a freehold bungalow or even a freehold terrace house. If you want to rent instead of buying you can rent an entire condo or an entire house thousands less than in Singapore. That is thousands less every month. Options in Malaysia also wider. If you prefer a slower pace of life, you can opt to live in more laid back places where costs are lower. Have a piece of land and grow your own food. If you live in KL, you salary won't be 1:1 with SG. From what I understand it will typically be higher. Malaysians can buy cars for less. And with this comes freedom. You can drive to nearby waterfalls and take a dip in cold crystalline waters anytime you like. You can drive 45-60 minutes and be in misty mountains or golden paddy fields as far as they eye can see. This accessibility to nature is priceless. 5:24 5:26 5:26 5:27

@@weilianlee9090that is not entirely true. While there are cheaper condo in Malaysia for a few hundred k, you will not even consider living in those areas as it is just not safe nor desirable. Most Singaporeans take it for granted that most areas in Singapore is safe and liveable with all the amenities but it is just not true in other countries like Malaysia. And don't get me started about driving. The one thing Singaporeans obsses about is a bane for most people in other parts of the world. Because Singapore is car lite, you don't see 2-3 hours traffic jam which is pretty common in cities like KL, Jakarta or Bangkok. Had you have to put up with jams lasting 2-3 hours everyday one way, believe me you would not think the same about owning a car anymore
@weilianlee9090
@weilianlee9090 11 месяцев назад
@@xxxcool2565 Condos costing a few hundred k are everywhere. Including in livable areas. 2-3 hours jam are not common in KL. In fact, they are extremely rare. Some people may experience them but definitely not for the majority. I do own a car and it is massively convenient and affords tremendous freedom. There are traffic jams in SG that can be really bad too with the cars barely moving or moving very slowly. I have been caught in them before.
