Aww R.I.P. Dan Blocker I loved him and Michael Landon from watching reruns it's still airing on ME tv Dan Blocker was a big baby Huey so sweet stay safe Lamont thanks for another video
@@mr.garlicman3134 I was only 5lbs 6ozs 2 1/2 months premature my younger sisters were only 4lbs 2ozs they were late by 3 weeks lol my children son 8lbs 11ozs daughter 8lbs 9ozs. My uncle was only 5lbs 10ozs he was first lol
Your remark about Western’s becoming less popular in American culture rang a bell . Ants westerns or replaced. However, because so many people are being killed by guns in America now, it occurred to me westerns went out and then guns became America’s past time an obsession to own their own guns? Kind of interesting when you think about it about it.
I know Lorne Green adored Dan Blocker he was very sad when he passed, he said I can’t believe such a big strong man like him can be taken out by something that could of been prevented.
I grew up in South Lake Tahoe not far from where Bonanza was partially filmed. We’d go every summer and tour the film set. I still have a few tin cups that were sold in the gift shop and pictures of us kids sitting on the horse statues outside of the house. Fond memories. ♥️💔
That's awesome. My family and I used to go now and then. It was fun. Wish I had one of those cups. I have an Alcatraz tin cup for you if you wanna trade one! lol I love those memories. The thing that sticks out is the tilted room. Thanks for sharing your memory. It inspired mine.
RIP Bobby Dan Davis Blocker (December 10, 1928 - May 13, 1972) (aged 43) you will truly be missed and my prayers go out to you and your family. I enjoyed watching him in Bonanza from 1959 to 1972 . Thank you for your service he was served as an infantry sergeant in F Company, 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division in Korea, from December 1951 to August 1952. He received a Purple Heart for wounds in combat.
You're right Lamont, Lorne Greene was in Bonanza! Dan Bocker had a short life, but packed full of accomplishments. Everything I've ever read would indicate he was a great guy.
My parents adored Dan and actually felt like he was part of the family ....they mourned his passing and couldn't watch Gunsmoke without commenting on his loss and they drifted away much like many watchers of Gunsmoke . I can agree with Lamont that Mr. Blockers passing was the death nell of the show . My folks probably saw at least 400 of those episodes and I remember coming in from playing to sit with the family and watch Bonanza together ... What a great guide for life !
Dan blocker was my favorite actor and I have a lot of DVDs of Bonanza watching Bonanza never get old and I'm a big fan of Gunsmoke all together I'm just a western fan I watch it with my dad when I was young RIP BIG GUY 💪🏻👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
My dad used to loooovvveee Bonaza and I could remember watching Hoss and the other Cartwrights with him! My dad passed a few years ago so this was such a great reminder/memory of childhood with him🥰
Me too, my Dad & I would watch westerns together. Out of his eight children, I think I'm the only one to watch them with him. A great memory, I cherish.
Great interesting video. That is tragic he passed. I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago. That's awful to pass from an embolism. I love Bonanza, Gunsmoke, the Rifleman, Maverick, wagon train, etc.
Lamont I think Yellowstone is the closest to a Western as we will get now a days. If you haven't seen it yet or 1883 you are really missing out!!!! Amazing series. Love what you do man!!
Fascinating Graveyard indeed! My mother loved Bonanza and I remember watching it as a kid and now 50+ years later, I still watch the reruns. I never knew he served in the Korean War. I learned a lot in these 11 minutes. I remember when Dan Blocker passed away. Very sad as he was such a young man. Rest In Peace to Dan Blocker and all the cast members of Bonanza who have now all passed away. Hope they know that their work is still being enjoyed to this day.
Dan Blocker was my favorite on Bonanza, he was always getting into something, my favorite was with the little ppl. You couldn’t help but laugh the entire episode. Fond memories as a child watching that show.
My Gmom used to watch that show. It’s really sad he passed away at a young age. He surely made an impact on those around him as there are nothing but good things said about him.
Holy crap. My grandpa used to always sit me down in front of the TV to watch Bonanza. DeKalb isn’t but an hour away from where I was raised. Wish my grandpa was still alive. I’d definitely take him to visit.
Thanks Lamont. Wonderful narrative about Dan Blocker. Learned some fascinating things about “HOSS” I never heard before. RIP DAN BLOCKER AND THE BLOCKER FAMILY 🥰👍🏻🙏
He was in the Three Stooges short "Space Ship Sappy"with Joe Besser as the third Stooge.Mr.Blocker also appeared in acouple of Frank Sinatra films "Lady in Cement" and "Come Blow Your Horn".Rest in Peace,Dan Blocker.
@@alextepe4309 Yes,Moe and Larry wanted Joe DeRita first, but Columbia Pictures pretty much assigned the role to Besser.Moe and Larry had little or no say as to who would replace Shemp.
My dad loved westerns. He loved Bonanza and Gunsmoke. I wish he was still with us so I could show him this video. Thank you, Lamont, for keeping the memory of people alive. God bless 💖
Omg same here haha 😂 I can't help but chuckle when my grandfather says "Bonanza Westerns on RU-vid" in the remote lol (He's 75), i try watching it with him sometimes but i'll never understand why he likes his westerns so much but either way its a good bonding experience❤😅
@@trueblue.u how precious!! My dad and your grandfather are about the same age. My dad was born in 1944. I bet your grandfather loves all the classics like " My Name is Nobody", "The Outlaw Josie Wales", "The Good, Bad, and the Ugly", ect...
The first nail was Pernell Roberts who left the show (or was forced out) due to his involvement in Racial March's held in the South in the late 60's. At that time it was too controversial for Prime Time mostly White television. Dan Blocker was my favorite . I grew up very overweight so I guess I related to him
Thanks for sharing this about Pernell Roberts, I liked him as well. Never really heard anything about why he left back then. It was a western but it was also a show about as family and that also attracted me. Liked Lorne Michaels and the Asian cook, some of the love interests featured on the series, etc. It makes me sad that Dan Blocker died so young, he was good with drama as well as comedy acting as I remember.
It was about a family, how they always stuck together. Dont make TV like that anymore for sure. And being so much about family I never understood about Pernell Roberts & why they dropped him. I guess theres always things people don't want you to do or say. I almost didn't comment here about it.
Dan Blocker⭐️had the most amazing aurora about him where he just oozed hug me with that stature smile with those eyes . Such a legend of kindness and love .🧸
thank you for this... My Dad and Dan were good buddies... they were stationed together.... i remember Dan coming to our house and he stayed with us.... He made his famous chili... remembering it was spicey... he really was a big guy but so loving.... my dad died of an embolism too... Bobby Dan :)
My grandfather is a massive fan of Bonanza and he watches them almost 24/7 on YT haha....I'll have to show him this video...thanks for sharing as always 😄
My dad was a huge fan of Bonanza, he would had totally loved to see this Lamont but unfortunately he passed away last month. Thank you so much for making me feel closer to him!
On me/Tv channel all the oldie westerns are on. When I was 8or 9 I lived with my grandparents and they loved Bonanza. So no cable so I grew up watching westerns ! Thanks for taking us back!!!! 🫶🏼✌🏻
O'Donnell is twenty minutes away from where I am. It is a very small town. He lived the dream when he went from there to L.A. I still watch all the westerns, from Gunsmoke to Bonanza. He was also was on a episode of Tales of Wells Fargo, another western. Ol Hoss Cartwright. I wish they would come back, but I doubt it though.. culture has really changed.
My brother looked like Michael Landon in high school. He hated it bc he's shy about it of course. You're alright. :) My other bro looked more like Hoss.
Love that show. When I was a kid my family went to bonanza ranch, my dad loved westerns. It was up by Lake Tahoe area. Not sure if still open I was a young kid.
i love dan blocker and bonanza. i wonder what ever happened to his wife Dolphia Parker. she kept a very quiet life while being with him & even after his death and she’s not buried with him, so i just wonder where she could be buried at.
@@sandrasanders706 Thanks for the move update Sandra, but it may not have been years. On one of the ancestry sites, a niece posted that she was living as of 30/1/2021.
Dan Blocker had a beautiful Tudor house in California. I don’t know if he still owns it, but Rob Zombie bought it. It’s absolutely beautiful home. FyI. My Mom’s side of the family watched Bonanza from beginning to end. Lorne Green was the Father in Bonanza . He did Alpo dog food commercials with a Chuck Wagon going through people’s homes in their kitchen because of Bonanza.
A short but full life for this gentle giant. Sadly, it's those large men who often don't have longevity. Their hearts have to work so much harder to supply blood to the body and they wear out.
@@eivindgj3761 So he could have made it last longer if he had taken care of himself. I know gallbladder surgery is easy peasy now with the inside tool laproscopically. But back in the day it was a flap. They cut you open. It was quite a surgery. I can't blame him for being scared.
I watched Bonanza and Little house on the prairie both....loved Dan blocker and Michael Landon too ...both good actors .....RIP Dan and Michael!!! Rip the Blocker family ❤️🙏😇.......
Lamont, I am a huge fan of Westerns. I watched them ALL. Thanks for this posting. I still watch them every chance I get. Sadly, I believe the Westerns have made their last ride into the sunset. Be safe!
My son weighed 10LB at birth I thought that was big! sheesh!!!, I loved Bonanza I used to watch it with my grandmother she was a big fan. Thank you for the story Lamont love from the UK x
Good thing you learned from your cellmate back then ... thanks for sharing your story . After Dan Blocker's passing , Bonanza was no longer the same . I still love the original 4 stars of the show . May they all RIP 💐
I watched it weekly, the man who played their cook was also funny in the series, you should look up his name. He was born on a December 10 just like me, only he was 3 years younger than my dad. My father in law also fought in the Korean War. I was in 7th grade when Mr. Blocker passed away.
My grandma loved westerns. I remember as a little girl, I would spend a week every summer with her & that's all we'd watch were westerns 😆 John Wayne was her favorite, her hero. But one show we'd always watch every afternoon was Bonanza. Now that I'm older (in my 60's) I find myself watching Bonanza. RIP 🙏🕯🕊 Dan Blocker & thank you for your service in our military as well sir.
My 91 year old grandparents watch Bonanza and Gunsmoke every day. There is a cable channel that plays all sorts of western shows. I don't think the newer generations would watch. If it isn't a tic tok, a meme, or vine, it won't be watched lol. Thank you for your all you do.
Pernell was the most handsome, juicy lips, dreamy eyes and bald head when he got older. Michael was the cutest with his luscious hair. Get it right Lamont. Lol Wasn't Rush suppose to be a western? My bf still watches both of those shows. My ex husband can say the script on some Bonanza episodes, but his favorite is The Big Valley, mine too. Lamont you brought up old memories, now I'm flipping channels.
When I was living in Utah back in 1994 my nextdoor neighbor's late husband was a Wardrobe consultant for the show Bonanza when the show was on air. She and her family would also be on the set at various times. When the show was done filming for the season my neighbor along with her husband and 3 kids would go back to their home. Her husband and 3 kids were killed on the Los Angeles freeway when a 18 Wheeler jack knifed and the trailer toppled on top of their car flattening it completely.
@@kcunlimitedeats They were living back in Los Angeles. The accident happened in 1974 when her husband and her 3 kids were on the freeway ( they were on their way to get ice cream, and she was at their house pregnant with their 4th child, and not feeling well. She miscarried this pregnancy 2 months later). She had them all cremated because of how badly they all were, and their ashes scattered. She worked for the LAPD in the Records dept.during those yrs and moved to Utah because she couldn't deal with the surroundings in L.A anymore.
No, but if so, they'll never be the same as the original Bananza or Gunsmoke or the Western filmed in those days. I'm 71ys old, you may say I'm old school but thank God for Western like these, they are classed as family programme here in the auK. Thank you for sharing Lamont
Great commentary Lamont!!! I’ve seen Bonanza b/c when working with the elderly, they love watching the show. You’re always on the move b/c you were just in South Carolina. Keep up the great work and stay safe!!!
Terrific commentary Lamont. I’m happy to catch your channels as your own perspective given is what makes the material covered more interesting. Peace to you ✌️
I loved watching Bonanza! Yes, that was in my childhood days. Great family life in those days. I loved Michael Landon, Dan Blocker and Lorne Greene. Great show. May they all R.I.P.
Hey Lamont , Tonya here my dad had lunch with this man in Texas while he was visiting he would not let my dad pay , dad said he was the nicest man you could ever want to meet , and yes dad said he was a big broude of a man very large and intelligent too they spent 3 hrs talking and eating steak . Dad had a great time with him .
Good information.. About current tv westerns.. Very rare. Deadwood and Billy The Kid are the only ones I know of or fairly current.. Thank you... You always give some good perspective historical insight on the deceased..
Love the title... someone has been watching that ridiculous channel/series "sad and tragic end." In this case it is sad. Their videos often involve people who are still alive and doing okay or people who died in their 80s. Nothing sad and tragic about living into your 80s while living on fortune and fame.
I LOVE Dan Blocker ♥ I was just watching Bonanza!!!! Before I got your notification for your video! So ironic Lol 😆 I knew he had played on a episode of gun smoke but did not know about the Three Stooges!! I'm going to look that up! Well Lamont another great video!! Love what you do! And stay safe on your travels!! Lot's of love from Austin Texas 💕
My mother and I watched Bonanza like clockwork. The whole country loved Dan. When he passed so suddenly, there was an outpouring of love and grief for him. There isn't anything now like Bonanza and other great TV which bound the culture together in a shared experience.
His mom must've had gestational diabetes, mostly babies born that big are due to mom having gestational diabetes 😮 another great video Lamont ❤️ love watching your channels 😊
He had Type 1 diabetes, but didn't follow his regimen to take care of it. Blocker had gallbladder surgery in March, 1972, but his recovery was slow, and some people had concerns about his progress. I never forget reading it in the newspaper and yelling, "Dan Blocker died, Hoss died." Our family couldn't believe it. Still can't. Westerns will have a place, but not like 50 or 60 years ago. Times are different now.
Yay!!!!! I asked for this on a live I am so happy! Thank you so much!!! I watch this show with my father and it is one of my favorite past times. How the show lost Adam and the passing off Hoss was crazy. Hoss is my favorite character. Safe travels, thank you again.
Good job on digging info for Dan Blocker. Wow he evidently was a hard worker to also have a Master’s degree. It takes years and I mean years to earn one. Haas is my favorite character on Bonanza because he projects himself as a humble person. Thank you 🤔❤️🇺🇸
