I hate how they nerfed Shining and Cadance in this one. They were the ones that defeated Chrysalis and Sombra in their first appearances and now they suddenly lose to Sombra so easily? And Flurry Heart was more than capable of blasting and teleporting from Sombra's hooves. I'm not saying they have to beat him on their own without the Mane 6 but at least don't make them get captured and in need of rescue.
Well, it kind of makes sense. Cadence and Shining armor, were stymied as soon as Sombra grabbed their daughter. And yeah, flurry heart could completely annihilate him without even trying, but since she’s still an infant, it’s one of those things where you can’t expect her to think to do that even though she’s done it before.
@@Nazo-kage are we going to ignore that sombra is more powerful than starlight and alicorn twilight? He just wasnt fully formed in the crystal empire lol, thats why the crystal heart just immediately wipes him in that but why hes fine in S9's premiere. It's completely believable that someone strong enough to mind control all of ponyville and destroy the tree of harmony is able to easily subdue cadance and shining armor, much less flurry heart
@@Vanilla-Suite not saying he couldn’t. But there’s also the fact that his plan revolved around losing the first time. That’s one of the key things about each of the villains in the show. None of them were idiots. Arrogant but not idiots
@@Nazo-kage true that also but he'd have to sell the threat of his takeover to bait the mane six to use the elements so its reasonable that he subdue the crystal empire in record time then lose on purpose, that false confidence is everything. Also I agree on your point about the villains not being stupid but rather arrogant however I would mention that nightmare moon in the season 1 premiere was making a ton of rookie mistakes, atleast in season 5 she's menacing though
@@Vanilla-Suite true she screwed up in the multiple times she tried to take them out, inadvertently giving the mane 6 trials to prove the worthiness of the elements. But you have to give her credit for at least trying to take them out.

My “the best season of MLP” list: 1. Season 4 2. Season 2 3. Season 9 4. Season 5 5. Season 6 6. Season 1 7. Season 7 8. Season 3(simply because there’s only 13 episodes) 9. Season 8
For me: 1. 5 (loved starlight's episodes, found on average the episodes were pretty good) 2. 2 (what got me into MLP) 3. 4 (I like that they finally started branching out to other locations) 4. 6 (season 5 but better and worse in some areas) 5. 7 (Felt like the show was running out of steam) 6. 1 (nostalgic, but kinda mediocre looking back on it) 7. 9 (Fixed some of the issues w season 8, was NOT a fan of the plot twist) 8. 3 (for the same reason you have) 9. 8 (Character bloat and occasional character assassination to force new plot developments)
Imo: 1. Season 4 (great story arc) 2. Season 7 (great story arc) 3. Season 9 (very fun season) 4. Season 3 (I'd rate it 3. if it was longer, fun all around) 5. Season 2 (nostalgic) 6. Season 6 (underrated) 7. Season 1 (nostalgic, but not as good as s2) 8. Season 5 (since S4 was so great for me, S5 felt like a letdown even if it was objectively good for many) 9. Season 8 (school of friendship... not my thing)
@@tiny2315 to be honest all the season are great, but the higher ones just have my favourite episodes in it. And even season 3 being right next to the last is waaay better than season 8
@@tiny2315 Well, the only season i genuinely was not a fan of was S8, I liked all the other seasons. Season 7 just didn't do much for me to make it stand out among the others and I usually forget some of the major episodes and plot points that make it unique

The Tree of Harmony and Discord were basically telling the 6 that the elements of harmony are not important. It was their friendship as whole that gave them strength which is why when the 6 unleashed the elements on King Sombra, The Tree of Harmony was redirecting him to itself to remove it from the equation, and Discord was acting to make the 6 realize. Even if King Sombra were to unleash his power on either of these powers, it wouldn't really do anything since they're literal forces of magic and nature. It may seem like the Tree is gone, but the castle and later episodes show it's still alive, Discord with his power within him is also practically invincible aside from the antithesis Harmony or artifacts that nullify magic. In truth, friendship is technically not and at the same time is magic, since it's a type. From the crystal empire, love is another form of magic, and Discord basically the embodiment of chaos has chaos magic. What defines them as magic instead of spells is their properties and inherent ability to manifest their concept into existence by itself, without relying on individuals to sustain it. It's existence itself is pure magical power.
Man I thought he was gonna watch the EQG specials, considering that it's always better to watch them before finishing the show :/ But still great stuff! Can't WAIT to sew him react to this season!

Grogar and Gusty are characters from the very first MLP series, "My Little Pony and Friends". That show was rather cheaply produced, even compared to other Hasbro series of the time, but it had some memorable characters, especially the villains. Though I think in that show it was Wind Whistler, not Gusty, who defeated him? Hm. Anyway, Grogar was also mentioned before on this show in a storybook and maybe also in a history book.

For the record, Grogar (much like Tirek) was one of the most memorable villains from the original 1980s MLP (specifically, from "The Return of Tambelon").
Although Celestia and Luna were pretty much an L this episode for saying that out of the blue at the beginning of Part 1, at least they pretty much apologized and realized it wasn’t the right thing to do at the moment and realized that they screwed up.
The trio will always be the best part of this season. One thing I never liked though was how cadence and shining just left flurry in her room unprotected when she should of been the first one they made sure was safe if they knew Sombra was back. So that’s bad parenting right there. Anyways looking forward to when you get to episode 8.
And so… Season 9 begins. The final season kicks off with the villainous Grogar uniting past MLP top villains. And now Twi and friends being appointed by Celestia and Luna as rulers of Equestria upon retiring too? What a responsibility!
Yea season 8 is definitely the worst one But I think it is kinda overhated Like cozy is a very good villain and I didnt mind sidelining the mane six that much Im getting of topic Season 9 A massive upgrade from season 8 imo Also Grogar is G1 villain so it is nice that they brought him back And ofc other villains I think they should have brought Storm king back somehow so he would have moments to shine but oh well Still a very good start to the season
While I like season 8 overall its definitely the weakest season in the show in my opinion. Season 9 is a return to good form as far as I'm concerned, I would say its the 3rd or 4th best season behind season 5 and 7. This was my favorite premiere alongside the season 5 premiere, it was lore heavy and action heavy. Sombra finally got his chance to show himself as a villain, he did pretty well all things considered.
the characters were all introduced at the same time and aside from yona and sandbar didnt really have any individual episodes or moments to shine. + i felt like they were forcing them being 'the next mane 6' a lil too hard especially cos most of them were kind of annoying
