In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by my new friend Joseph Dinesh from the incredible ‪@JDcatholicEngage‬ channel to talk, first of all, about his amazing faith journey and then to dig into some of the anti-Catholic misunderstandings and misconceptions that Protestants have about Catholicism.
JD's journey is one of a passionate young man converted away from the nominal Catholicism he was raised in, into a vibrant Evangelical faith only to come storming back into the Catholic Church through some serious movements of the Holy Spirit in his life and a discovery of the truths of Catholicism he never really knew.
It's an amazing story!
We also dig into some of the biggest anti-Catholic misconceptions JD hears like issues about hell, how Catholics and Protestants understand salvation, purgatory, and much more.

13:05. Wow wow wow. I had never heard this quote before- it truly resonates with me. Temptations to go back to my most sinful behaviors are at their worst when I am doing my best. And I’m just a regular guy- can you imagine the temptations that Priests, Bishops, and other clergy are exposed to??

This is why Our Lady always asks us to pray for our priests. Behind each priest there is a demon fighting for his fall. If we have the language to criticize them. We must have twice as much to pray for them. St Terese of Avila

I’m at a loss of words of how Jesus Christ our Lord and God and I do want to mention also Mother Mary helps people to see in a powerful mysterious way to understand and believe in his One True Christian Church that he started on Pentecost upon the Apostles and their Successor’s which will continue till the end of time through the promise of Jesus Christ telling his Apostles that he will be with them even till the end of time.Truly a uplifting convincing story amen 🙏

Brothers in Christ! Glory to Jesus Christ! This discussion was so transformative and full of wisdom from the Holy Spirit. The high point to me was seeing the verse "faith without works in dead" in this light of the works God calls us to being transformative in our lives. Of course God is a wise and loving parent who knows we must replace our sin with the sacramental life and service to others. I am once again thanking God for leading me home to the Catholic faith. No words can express what a treasure it is.❤

Well done! We see in the vehement, occasionally irrational opposition to both men, that they proclaim the full truth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I note that, by definition, Protestantism does not offer sacrifice. This tends to place Christ in the distant past, while on the other hand they demand that we have a "personal relationship" with Him. How? A thought process? A huge problem is that since the Protestant dissolution and fracturing, they are impossible to define. As well, sacrifice is historical - and biblical - worship. Since they do not sacrifice, they do not worship. They praise - which is excellent, but God is due infinitely more. He demands, commands and expects more. They are victims of their own theology. Their "services" can elevate human activities into "worship." Fellowship is the goal, once one is "saved." That is a horizontal relationship, rather than vertical. God first, the vertical. Your neighbor next, the horizontal. Since they have no devotions, any and all devotions MUST BE idol worship. But, look at how they ascribe divine qualities to the bible. Very close to idolatry, while they accuse both Catholics and Orthodox of idolatry. In truth, many seem to love the bible because it allows God to agree with them. I often throw my hands up and say "Beam me up, Scotty!"

Protestant don’t believe that we are “in competition” with God. We simply believe in a creator-creature divide. Think of it this way: suppose Daniel Radcliffe claimed to co-write the Harry Potter series and sued J. K. Rowling for his share of the royalties. Suddenly, Rowling WOULD care-and care very much-about “sharing glory.” Most of what you call Protestant misconceptions in this video is just lazy thinking on the part of Catholics.

@@TheCordialCatholic. I have no idea what you don’t understand. You can’t push the notion of our not being “in competition” with God very far. Actual competition with God is not only frowned on but downright forbidden. Try bowing down to a real live idol of Molech or Chemosh…and see what God thinks about “competition”!

PROTESTANT RESPONSE. respectfully submitted. Please remember that a conversion to Christ and converting to Roman Catholicism (or any particular Christian communion) is NOT the same thing. Note: historic Protestantism does not teach that God sends anyone to hell if they don’t do X,Y,Z. The only people going to hell are those who remain in their unregenerate state and are therefore unforgiven. The cause of damnation does not rest with God but the individual. Please read classical Protestant theological formularies from 17th and 18th century. Historic Protestantism (Anglican, Lutheran, Reformed) does not teach once saved, always saved. It does not teach that you just say the “sinner’s prayer” and now you can go out and live like a reprobate. You won’t hear Anglicans, Lutherans and Reformed even using that kind of language. Again read the historical theological formularies if you want to know the truth about Protestantism. Cordial Catholic does not come from an historic Protestant background. He comes from an contemporary American Evangelical background. The two are vastly different. I really have to object to this broad brush assertion that “Protestants” automatically reject a teaching because it is “Catholic”. That they are unable to engage in honest discourse. BTW, Pentecostals are not Protestant, they are a subset of Evangelicalism. It is simply incorrect to suggest tradition plays no role in historic Protestantism. I hate to bring in reality here but Anglicans knell and bow and so do Lutherans. Reformed kneel. Historic Protestantism teaches that Word and SACRAMENT are central to worship. If you go to an Anglican, Lutheran and Reformed Divine Service you will see it bears no resemblance to the happy clappy anarchy you see in Charismatic Evangelicalism. Historic Protestantism is LITURGICAL, Historic Protestantism does not reject honoring saintly Christian role models from the past. Anglicans and Lutherans for example have special days set aside on the church calendar to honor and remember these people. This gentleman is taking contemporary American Evangelicalism and calling it “Protestant”. This gentleman really needs to get better informed. He throws up straw men by incorrectly describing the Protestant position and then responding to it. Then he argues against it. This is what Protestants actually believe. Protestants believe that there is only one church established by Christ, namely the Holy Catholic Church. They don’t believe that there are all these “churches” out there in the world competing with Roman Catholicism for the title of “the true church”. No, Protestants subscribe to the Nicene Creed. They believe that Christ has established only ONE church. This universal church consists of ALL the redeemed. A redeemed person is fully united to Christ and his universal church. The argument is not over is there one church. The argument is over where does it subsist in the world. Protestants don’t believe that Christ’s church and the Church of Rome are one and the same. This gentleman seems like a very nice, well intentioned person. Respectfully he is simply wrong in some of his assertions.

Paul Smallwood: redefining what Protestantism means for Evangelical Christians everywhere. 😂
@paulsmallwood1484
@paulsmallwood1484 21 день назад
@@TheCordialCatholic oh I see so only Roman Catholics get to redefine what Protestantism means to Christians everywhere. 😄. I actually didn’t define it. I simply stated what this Roman Catholic apologist got wrong about Protestantism. Thanks for the heads up. Now, thanks to you, I know that only Roman Catholics get to “define” Protestantism or explain it. Sounds self serving to me but oh well what do I know, I’m only a Protestant. 😄. I keep forgetting, Protestants aren’t supposed to disagree with Roman Catholic apologists over what Protestantism teaches. Clearly Roman Catholics are better informed about Protestantism. I am just supposed to nod in agreement. Got it.

@@paulsmallwood1484 respectfully Paul, how is Protestantism defined or labeled? I do agree with you that the mainline Protestants, Lutherans, Anglicans...are much different than modern day _________ fill in the blank “name” Christians. We all can see this. But even they are much different in their theologies, in smaller degrees for sure, but salvific differences for sure. The problem is we have no single label to ALL those outside the Catholic church, the one church Jesus established. THE BIBLE is supposed to be the ONE common thread but even that “thread”, if used, put Unitarians, JWs, Mormons…in the camp, which in my opinion, shows the extreme of the one trajectory set forth by the Lutherans and Anglicans. I use the word “trajectory” on purpose to show they are all connected beginning with truth in the one true church to only slightly outside the truth, your position, to further outside the truth, those you are arguing about, to way outside the truth to the extreme where even those can loose sight of the nature of Christ. ALL based on reading the Bible for themselves… I do feel your pain sir but there is only 2 sides truth and not truth. Truth has no degrees to it but not truth has many degrees. Peace!!!
@paulsmallwood1484
@paulsmallwood1484 21 день назад
@@srich7503 I can assure you that I feel no pain. If I am feeling pain then you are as well. Have you actually read any historic Protestant theological formularies? I can assure you that they display remarkable unanimity and so I must respectfully reject your characterization especially since you haven’t actually studied these important historical documents. You are just spouting standard Catholic Answers propaganda. Answer me this when the Pope makes a pronouncement why is this always accompanied by an almost unending disagreement over what he actually mean’t? Then when he tries to clarify it, it brings another around of differing opinions over what he actually mean’t with his clarifications. I am talking recent. So if I have a problem, so do you my friend.

📜 Jeremiah 7: 2“Stand at the gate of the Lord’s house and there proclaim this message: “ ‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship the Lord. 3This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place. 4Do not trust in deceptive words and say, “This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord!” ...16“So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you. 17Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to arouse my anger. 19But am I the one they are provoking? declares the Lord. Are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame? . Selah 📜 1Corinthians 10:11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. 12So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 14Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
