HE'S BACK (Luffy vs Lucci REMATCH!) 

I fanboy'd so hard when Vegapunk called out Zoro and Robin as being threats. It just felt so perfect. The Straw Hats are all grown up now. They're not some unassuming pirate crew that can be overlooked, they're a real threat that has to be taken seriously.

It’s always Great when enemies see Zoro and especially Robin as a threat. Also I hope Zoro’s question for Vegapunk is about Curing the Smile fruit victims in Wano. It would make sense for his character bc one underrated trait that I feel some fans forget about is Zoro’s kindness

Oda found the perfect way to have Luffy and Bonney bond over enjoying food without fighting each other for said food: give them a food-making machine

I quite literally got chills when Shaka said "[Zoro] is hanging back so calmly because he knows he can slaughter you in an instant from that range. Same goes for the demon child behind him" and it's the two deadliest looking staredowns in existence

One thing I find interesting in this chapter is the fact that Lucci is questioning the governments plans before he never did that

One thing I like about One Piece is how previous villains still have a role. First, you may see them in the cover stories, and then they might actually make an appearance overall. The recent chapters bringing back Crocodile and Lucci are prime examples that previous characters can still have an influential role in the future story.

As for Kuma himself, what are the chances that this arc will introduce us to a device that contains Kuma's old memories, which could be an opportunity for the SH to fully learn why he did what he did for them?

I was so happy to see major characters finally acknowledge and respect the raw power that Nico Robin possesses. It’s been long overdue

why do I think that despite Lucci getting hyped up so much, he's just gonna get the Bellamy treatment in their rematch. Or if he survives the fight long, the Blueno treatment.

I really like the idea of Zoro being after vegapunk to fix the smile problem in Wano, he was the most affected by it

I can't be the only one who got the impression that Lucci's getting set up as an ally. From the CP0 conversation, Lucci seems reluctant about the mission, describing it as "killing the most important person in the world." And then Kaku replies with something along the lines of "Don't get us into trouble."

I just want to add that while I am super excited to see Rob Lucci, I am much more excited to see Kaku come back into the story! When my Sister and I where watching through Waters 7, she fell in love with Kaku and legitimately wanted him as our shipwright. We even started calling him "Squsopp" Because he is the Square Usopp! So even though Lucci was definitely a better villain, we got allot more attached to Kaku during that arc than we did Lucci, so to have him come back as well is really great to see!

I really hope Smoker will appear in this arc, and I would love to see him fight Lucci. The man who changed his opinion on the WG vs the man who blindly follows it. Lucci might have had a change of heart though.

On a side note, I love the small detail of Hattori standing on Lucci’s shoulder on one panel and then moving down to the table to eat his food. Can’t wait for the return of the third-best bird in One Piece. (Right after Big News Morgan and Karoo)

I have a theory about Im. He is the same ruler that overthrew the ancient kingdom. He was the recipient of the immortality surgery from the Ope Ope no Mi. This would give him some measure of understanding about the upper limits of strength anyone could ever reach in the world, and if the seraphs Vegapunk has made are able to challenge that kind of power, then they don't need Vegapunk anymore, which would explain why they'd want to get rid of him

I thought the gloves were thrown in because of kizaru. It’d be cool if nami or someone got else got it. She’ll likely have some minor focus this arc with the mention of the weather tech

I have an inkling of an idea that Lucci was referring to returning the "problem child" Kuma seraphim to Egghead because it's not following commands like the others. My theory is that vegapunk has transferred the memories of the true Kuma to this newer model pacifista, Kuma Seraphim, to keep an inside agent in the new pacifista program, just as the original Kuma was in the old program. I think once the fighting starts the Kuma seraphim is gonna switch sides and help protect Vegapunk

The Vegapunks give me vibes from the film 9. A scientist who put part of his soul and personality into each of his doll creations.

Maybe the photonic gloves were made for kizaru for some reason. Since we know that Vegapunk works with kizaru to make the pacifistas lasers, maybe he made a weapon that could touch light to either keep kizaru in check or something to do with the pacifistas construction

My best guess is the WG is scrambling because some “time of prophecy” is coming up. This would explain some of Roger and Oden’s predictions and why the WG seem to be wiping out anything that could possibly pose a threat to their rule. This would also explain Lulusia. “Make an example of rebels” There was probably a character similar to madam Shyarly but even more powerful

I'd rather have Robin take him on personally, I think it would be a very powerful moment for her character, and I believe she is now strong enough to fight him. And considering there was some focus on Robin this chapter it would make sense I think.

I found it really interesting how for the first time Lucci seemed a bit hesitant to follow his orders. Even with Spandam(I remember accidentally calling him Spandex when I was watching Enies Lobby), since he was technically his superior he never showed any hesitance when orders were given. I've been reading recent chapters however I'm on Whole Cake arc but progressing fast!

Maybe Zoro is interested because of the Smile fruits, he knows Vegapunk worked with Caesar to make them and the effects they bring on people, specially the ppl in Wano. Maybe he will demand Vegapunk to develop a cure for the side effects of the Smiles, idk. Franky, Nami and Usopp will get upgrades this arc, maybe even Chopper, this way the entire crew can somewhat hold their own in the worst fights that are yet to come for the final part of the story. Franky of course has a lot o potential to get insane inventions/ideias for him, not to mention that "Vega Cola" could work a nitro works for cars in the Speed moveis. xD Nami will probably get to know more about that weather manipulation. Usopp is just creative overall, he will scavenge something and customize it for him Chopper could also benefit in some minor way, maybe learning about DF in general, this one idk.

The photon gloves intrigued me because it says it allows them to interact with light. What if the photon gloves are a weakness to kizaru like water is to crocodile

I really don't think Lucci stands any chance against Luffy anymore , maybe he's awakened his fruit but i still don't think that'd be enough.

When Robin was first introduced she was shown to be someone calm and a person who would size up their opponent. I was glad that she did this here with Zoro and didn't just make a shocked/scared straw hat crew face.

So they did mention that little Kuma is a problem seraphim, and what I believe happen is that Vegapunk had moved Kuma personality from Kuma original body into it. vegapunks gloves made for touching light are 100% going to relate to the secrets of devil fruits that we’re probably just a few chapters away from learning. The gloves were shown doing two things this chapter: allowing vegapunk to hit the hologram as if it were real and allowing vegapunk to hit luffy with a blunt attack as if they were using armament haki. i believe the effects devil fruits produce are somehow related to light and if you can nullify light you can nullify the effects of the users fruit. it’d also explain why the yami yami no mi has the ability to nullify devil fruits, since it’s essentially a black hole fruit.

Hey man. This might not be much, but Punk Atlas did say the gloves allow for physical interaction with light. Maybe it works against Kizaru's powers as well? But then that would pose the problem of who has to fight him in CQC that doesn't have any haki, not to mention why he would be in this island in the first place. I dunno, just seemed like a nice thought.

It's interesting to hear that you caught up to weekly in Enies Lobby and that affected which characters you're fond of. I think my favorite character being Buggy is probably partly due to me getting caught up to weekly in Impel Down.

When I heard of light touching gloves I immediately thought of Ussop putting an impact dial in one and using it to fight Kizaru.

I'm so glad we went in the same direction in regards to the Vega Cola and also, the moment I grasped the theme of the Seraphim, I was IMMEDIATELY terrified of the possiblities of a Kuma Seraph and BOOM here he is not even 5 chapters later.

The gloves could be the next power up for franky. Being able to hit a hologram is kinda similar to being able to hit light. So franky having the ability to touch light or redirect it could be helpful while fight a seraphim

I also want to point out that they called Kuma Seraphim a “problem child”, maybe referring to the fact that he has something wrong the govnt doesn’t like, like maybe past memories or will of it’s own. Which could be the Bonney storyline and them having father/daughter stuff, wrapping it up in one arc for them to go back to Sorbet

I would love to see Luffy using gear 5th to let him interact with the holograms, whether that's to eat some junk food or do some punch fighting.

As soon as I saw the light interaction, I figured Vega was making weapons to rival or even beat the strongest devil fruits (Kizaru). They also have the island surrounded by weaponized sea beasts that are constantly scouting and ~supposed to~ report back.

I'm getting punk hazard vibes from this new arc, mainly because we arrived at a winter island, where vegapunk is involved, a worst generation member seems to be in good terms with the straw hats and a former villain that used to be a huge threat has made a re-appearance

I think the ability to touch holograms (light) might be something in the realm of artificial haki. In theory those gloves would enable you to hit Kizaru as he is also made out of light. Artificial haki to combine with artificial devil fruits.

i just love the tiny little scene of luffy and bonney cheersing their mugs in the background of one of the panels, idk why but im loving how bonney is portrayed so far and hope she sticks around for a bit

I think Dragon should wite a training guide to increase one's strength to super-destructive levels (seems a normal thing in OP world), but more specifically for the advanced techniques that are seemingly exclusive to the elites, you know the different hardenings and so on. And then his people can go around creating a common trend to become super dangerous but "nice, innocent" citizens standing up to the evil oppressors. Imagine if Luffy just had known about that stuff before meeting CP9 and all that laborious progression... Clearly it's actually part of Dragon's responsibility, if he is truly the revolutionary leader, to spread that stuff. Like a wiki and free courses.

An odd possibility for the gloves is that there is a certain light based, lackadaisical admiral who's powers make them become light. This brings up the question of who would actually use them though, as the punch fighters most likely to fight Kizaru have haki.

I personally believe shaka is based off of shaka zulu. Only because shaka was able to asses the situation and was well informed about the straw hats danger.

As for me, there was a small idea when I saw "photonic gloves" or whatever they are called. If some of the Straw Hats can't use haki, then they can't hurt somebody like Smoker, Akainu, or in this particular case Kizaru, but with something like this they can do something :) Then for our "weaker" friends, tech from Vegapunk can be a major power-up that will help them fight Logia-type users, so they can match the Yonkou crew

I love how Oda wasted no time kicking off a super interesting arc right after Wano. Can't wait to see where things go, every single Straw Hat has potential for upgrades on this Island so it could be a sort of training arc. Also I believe that the photonic gloves could be used against Kizaru.

I think we’re going to find out there was a whole other conversation with Zoro and Kuma at Thriller Bark which will explain his interest in VegaPunk. Also, he is definitely curious as to why VegaPunk helped Kuma help the Straw Hats at Sabiody(sp?) before the time skip. VegaPunk has been instrumental to their journey by 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc, order of effects, so they’re all definitely curious (except Luffy because he doesn’t think that deeply about it).

I've watched a lot of Star Trek and I didn't spot the Cardassian replicator and that just makes this chapter so much better

A question. Why is Kuma’s Seraphim referred to as a “Problem Child”? And it seems like they are returning him not to fight but for some other reasons.

Speaking of trends, do you think we will see Mad Monk Urouge play an extensive role in this or a future arc? We’re basically wrapped up on major appearance by the (former) warlords, half way covered the emperors, and now with Bonnie’s apparent importance to the current arc all we’re missing from the supernovas is the inclusion of the mad monk last see watching Kaido fall from the clouds.

I was wondering if those gloves that let's you touch light will be something that will be used against Kizaru or the Seraphims. For our main fighters who have armament haki, it might not matter since they can interact with Logia. But who knows if Frank get's a hold on them, he might make something that can counter both Kizaru's light ability and maybe the Pacifista/Seraphims beams. Maybe Sunny might become an anti beam ship XD Also, having Luffy be the one to hear Atlas' talk about perception shapes your sense of reality, and the debate of what makes things real.... makes me wonder if this might feed in to his imagination abilities even more.

I also like how Franky mentions he stayed in Vegapunks home town of “Baldimore” which is a reference and a pun of the real life town of Baltimore, MD, Baltimore with its own rich and complex technological backstory. Fun fact, my hometown is Baltimore :D

The light gloves that vegapunk has could be used on kizaru. Imagine someone like franky getting these gloves and in the final war arc goes against kizaru in a 1 on 1 battle

I had a fun thought about the speculation that Vegapunk will join the crew and the "a bad guy will join the crew." What if we get thrown a curveball and Rob Lucci joins instead, ie he keeps asking questions, the other cp0 agents turn on him, and Luffy defends him.

What if after a little bit of back and forth and trading some attacks its revealed that CP0 and wano players have different stories of how other cp0 members went down or Lucci and co. straight up didn't know how the others were sacrifed and after hearing about it from robin or something they hold off on completing their mission.

Also, Bonnie doing the obligatory girl-without-clothes scene, couldn’t have happened in a “safer” environment: Luffy has seen Hancock and didn’t react, Chopper is a reindeer, and Jinbei is a fish. She’s totally in the clear

I mean Lucci wasn't even up to snuff in their first fight. He was saved by sheer circumstance, landing on a boat after getting knocked through a wall, into what should've been open ocean. Granted you could argue that the water surrounding where they fought was sheer circumstance too. But now Luffy also has all three forms of haki, all advanced if I'm not mistaken, and two more whole gears. I think he's gonna get knocked. We'll see who the real villain of the arc is.

Kuma is my favorite warlord. I love him and really want him to have a happy ending

Will be interesting to see exactly what Zoro wants with Vegapunk. It could be something simple like a SMILE cure, or even finding a way for Sanji to never potentially lose his emotions. But it could also be such a surprising place to discover wtf is up with man (because as it’s been said since the beginning, he’s seen as something a demon and, compared to the standards of the normal east blueian, his strengths and endurance went far beyond the norm. He’s met this match grand line wise but its hard to forget that for the longest time, he went into most fights extremely handicapped). Zoro is the strawhat that is, bar Brook but that’s due to devil fruit, most intrenched in the spiritual/supernatural so discovering what he is/going on with him on a science island would such a brilliant contrast

Misprint or misdirection? Shaka and Lilith are labelled correctly as #1 [Good] and #2 [Evil] respectively though...

Something I wanted to highlight that was brought up in chapter 1007 if my memory serves me correctly, is CP0 saying that Vegapunk analysed kaidos fruit using his lineage factor? What could his lineage factor be? Could vegapunk possibly be another new race we haven’t come across?

I'm honestly expecting the Gloves that Let You Touch Light to be used against Kizaru in some way. Though I suppose any Haki User could hit him anyway. It just seems like too specific a counter to not come up.

I really really hope Oda did not give Lucci an insane power up. Nobody out of the straw hats should have serious problems dealing with them.

Now that we might get an arc for Bonney (been a long time coming), we now need an arc for ghost girl Perona, who is also a princess. Oda could really feature Zoro in this arc because they were pretty close.

Do people really think we'll see a Luffy vs Lucci round 2? So I've seen this theory floating around for ages now that Lucci will return and face off against Luffy again. I think the first part is definitely going to happen. At this point given what Oda has done with the character and CP0 I think we'll definitely see Lucci come back much stronger and play some sort of role in the story. But it's the fighting Luffy again part that makes little to no sense to me. Lucci lost to a pre-skip Luffy who didn't know any haki, so for him to return and put up any sort of fight against Luffy we would have to assume that he's been improving at a comparable rate to Luffy, which would be insane. Luffy's growth rate far exceeds any other character in the series and it just wouldn't make sense to me for Lucci to somehow have gotten stronger at a similar pace. I'm curious to hear what other people think of this stuff as well as just what direction in general you think Oda might take Lucci/CP0 in the future.
