Making Disney more inclusive has been overdue for so so so long. I’m so glad that you and so many children will be able to feel more accepted and represented especially in something as popular as Disney princesses. So happy this is finally happening 🥺💜
@@_gsam0512 that horseshit. recreating white characters as poc is racism. There must be african/nigerian stories that can be created by disney to show people of colour
I think it is very cool. I can imagine it being hard for girls with red hair. But now they have Merida and kind of Anna as a red haired princess as well. I never was a huge fan of any Disney princesses, but I can imagine that for girls that do that having representation would be awesome!
i feel like u buy wayyyyyyy too much stuff!! like the constant packages everyday…you should be happy with the clothes and other things u have…we all share the same planet and it would be nice if u could help protect it too instead of buying a bunch of stuff that will end up in landfill smh
thank you for talking about Halle playing Ariel in such a positive way Colleen! I think this representation is what matters most and I’m so excited to see how amazing the movie is!
I just remember Flynn starting to crawl and now Wesley is crawling 😭😭 This is such a precious time Colleen and you are bringing up your kids so well💜💜 Stay strong queen ily
@@nya184 Her race is merfolk; she's not a white woman. Fun fact, Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid is different from the Disney version; Disney toned it way down and gave it a happy ending.
Firstly …pocahontas is Not a Disney princess !!! She was very much a real person who is buried in my home town !! And is very important in history and to the Native American nations ! …NOT JUST AN ANIMATION OF DISNEY ! …I’m sure Belle would know that btw as she loved to read ! …secondly this isn’t the first Disney princess of colour ..Tiana…from princess and the frog released in 2009 is a massive and well loved Disney animation !… I’m very happy that the little mermaid is being inclusive …because no where does it state she is white ….had this been Snow White it would not have been fitting …I think where the role can be interpreted for any skin tone ..it should be ..if there’s an actor that fits the role …but let’s also please remember a persons personality is just as important as their looks !!! There are many disabled children out there with no ‘princess’ or ‘hero’ to identify with at all !!! …ITS NOT ALL ABOUT THE FACE !
I remember the first time watching Roger and Hammersteins Cinderella starring Brandy Norwood. I felt like I finally connected with a princess. I know that feeling and I'm glad little back girls out there can feel the same way❤
as someone who loved princesses growing up but not looking like any of them it makes me so happy seeing that they’re little kids see themselves in these amazing characters :,)
I'm sorry but bringing the representation of black people down to the color of someone's hair or eyes makes me actually so mad. Like are you seriously trying to appropriate black trauma? The reason you are crying is because it makes you think of YOURSELF not because you feel their emotions? What in the world...
She explained that she knew how special she felt when she could relate to a specific princess and that she was happy for girls of all races to feel represented. She wasn’t undermining anything and clearly was talking about how happy she was for little black girls to have a princess to relate to and look up to, she wasn’t crying because she was remembering her memories…
Is that why i was always obsessed with Esmeralda growing up even though nobody really thinks of her? Shes like one of the only disney characters with black hair and slightly darker skin. She is supposed to be a french girl and part romani but she looked very ethnic to me and being from the middle east i just really loved her so much, i always had clothes with Esmeralda on it. (Jasmine comes closer to what im describing probably but i never felt the connection with her that i had with Esmeralda. Perhaps because of the things Esmeralda stood for and did to get it.)
I saw little girls reacting to finding out she was a darker skin and I almost cried as well. It makes me happy to see all these little girls have someone they can look up to and somewhere they can start dreaming big without feeling guilt or shame.
I completely echo your sentiment about The Little Mermaid. When I was young Ariel was my favorite because she was the only red headed princess and I saw myself in her. I am so happy that she can now be for a whole new group of girls what she was for me.
Tortilla Talk Question: What’re some of your favorite questions you’ve been asked at your meet&greets? was at the meet&greet in anaheim and made the framed art for you and kory! so much love to youuuu!!!❤️💜❤️
Ariel was always my favorite partially because of her red hair! I'm a ginger, too and I always loved seeing other ginger characters, whether it was cartoons or real life.
@@Cmela93 good thing Brave is still a huge movie for ginger representation. It's okay if others get to have a turn as well 💜 it's also great that they still gave her beautiful red locs, representing both little girls who have red hair and those little girls with locs who have always been told their hair was unpresentable or unprofessional. There's a wide variety of types of "red hair" and I'm glad we are moving in a direction of uplift all of them!
There has never been enough black heroines or princesses so happy to see this. Those baby and family clothes are SO CUTE! Ariel was my favorite because of the father/daughter dynamic and the evil octopus represented my stepmother so well 🤣😂
I used to work in children’s publishing and when I was there I saw a video of a boy who said in an interview that he never really saw kids like him in his story books. That really struck a cord with me and I thought about the books I read and they were quite similar to me. It made me feel so sad that the majority of books didn’t represent him. I know a lot of books these days are trying to be more representative, which is amazing! This new film is the exact same thing. It’s so important for kids to see films, what shows, read books of characters that look like them. It’s speaks a thousand words when they notice that representation isn’t there. That they are not worthy of being a main character, of being a princess, a price, a hero, an Astronaut, a teacher… whatever they want to be.
Omg Maisy is a genius! I’ve never heard of a baby pulling the blanket/rug to get things that are out of reach. She is already such a good problem solver!
If only they could do Pocahontas correctly...or something better. As a Native woman, I can't watch the one part with the one song... the truth about Pocahontas was that she was a little girl taken from her home by a grown man to be well...yea. as for the little mermaid, I'm excited for those girls/boys and everyone else who's looking forward to it.
@@jnmks the representation of brunettes and black ppl ???? No they’re not the same at all. Black ppl used to not get represented at all and only shown as bad ppl?
@@joey111 representation is representation. there are literally a lot of black characters and blackwashed characters out there and people are happy about it so i don't know what you're talking about
@@joey111 lol i'm not even american and i don't have an ounce of white blood in me here are blackwashed characters: ariel, heimdall, valkyrie, anne boleyn, mileena, tinkerbell (the upcoming peter pan and wendy movie), the blue fairy from cinderella, jill valentine... you want real people? okay so there's anne boleyn, margaret of anjou, joan of arc, julius caesar, and carl gustaf emil mannerheim
Thank you sooo much for speaking on the little mermaid situation!! As a woman of color with a biracial identify, representation is so important. I am so happy for all the little black girls and boys who get to look up to an iconic princess, actress, and icon like Halle Bailey ❤️
I miss watching Colleen. But I stopped watching her cause she won’t adress the fact that she exploits her children. She shared a inappropriate video of Flynn singing about his private parts. The song itself was not inappropriate but the fact you shared it online is. Colleen. If your reading this. Please adress this matter and take down that episode of RELAX that you shared the recording on. If you wont then I feel really sorry for your children. Because if you don’t stop exploiting them they could be bullied, sexualized , targeted, and more. So , Please for the sake of your children safety, STOP exploiting your children and think before you post. I’ll be praying that you see this and come to your senses. God bless! -ps. hi colleen! im prakriti, im 17 and im from india. i love you and your vlogs. watching your family makes me believe in happiness. i think that you're so very beautiful in everything you say and do and i adore the person you are. i have been struggling with my mental health for about five or six years now, battling various issues, and i began watching you five years ago. you don't know it, but you have been with me throughout my teenage years, and have helped me more than you can know. hearing you speak about your journey with Dermatillomania helped me discover and realise so much about myself and i stopped beating myself up over something that wasn't my fault. i discovered you through Haters Back Off on Netflix, and i thought miranda sings was simply hilarious. i didn't know anyone else who watched it, and i still don't, in my friend circle and school, that is. i find myself wanting to speak to people about you and convince them to watch you too, but at the same time, i want to preserve that bond that i feel towards you because I don't think others would appreciate it as much. i don't think ill ever meet you, because i live in India and me travelling to the States doesn't seem to be a possibility in the near future. but i want you to know that you are so appreciated and loved.
You are so good at communicating things to your kids, I don't know how to explain it but the way you talk to and interact with your kids makes me happy. I think you will make very emotionally intelligent adults, I try to use the things you do when I get to hang out with kiddos :)
@@Minkfang I’ve seen her explain things to him instead of just saying “no” she tells him why he can’t do something right now and tells him something he can do instead, which reduces tantrums. Also she doesn’t vlog him when he’s upset because that wouldn’t be fair to him
TTQ: I know that you and Erik had found a nanny back in L.A. but did she follow you to your new house or are you back to being just the both of you to take care of the kids? Sending love and happiness❤️🧡
When is there gonna be a LATINA/Hispanic Disney Princess made?! I'd LOVE for my daughters & all other Latina girls/woman to be able & feel the same JOY & EXCITMENT all other little girls/woman feel!!!
People who’d get so triggered at the fact that Halle (and not another white woman) is playing as Ariel make me laugh because they forget that Ariel is literally just a fish 🤣🤣🤣 it’s not that deep girlies. Just enjoy the cartoon 🤣
Have you tried putting eye drops in your mascara to thin it back out? It usually works great! Also when you pull the wand out and re-dip, don't pump it in and out. It's a common misconception that that gets more product on the brush, but it doesn't. What that does is pump air into the bottle and dries it out faster! Hope this helps someone! 😊
TTQ (s): Are you and Eric still thinking about doing a wedding party? that seemed to be something you were interested in before COVID started and I was wondering if you were still thinking of doing that! Also, do you have any advice for any of the theater kids out there? Because I wanted to thank you. You got me into theater right before COVID, ( one of my favorite videos is the one with you and your nieces and nephews in the car belting Wicked. I wish I had a family that loved theater just as much as I do.) and now I am in my first community theater production as Oaken and the King in Frozen. You are my inspiration every day, because of how you are able to cope with your mental health, because I have anxiety and OCD, and how you followed your dreams, and look where you are now. Whenever I get asked who my mentors, or people I look up to are, I always say my mom and you. I hope to meet you in person someday because you got me through so much, and inspired me to do theater. So thank you.
@@katestow8767 I was responding to the question of the wedding party. She's been married 4 years and has had 3 kids since then. I don't think she's thinking of a wedding party from her wedding from 2018. What does your comment have anything to do with what I said. I simply implied a wedding party 4 years later seems odd but would be fun. Obviously kids and adults can have fun. Please explain your comment and what it implies to my original post
Colleen, thank you for what you said about Halle and the Little Mermaid. EVERYONE deserves to be represented and seeing the dreams that are possible out there. Thank you for saying it! Sooo much love from South Africa (and yes it's 4am this side and I'm watching your video). Also please do an Africa Tour one day??? ❤️🇿🇦
I wish that I looked like a princess. I have blue/grey eyes and like strawberry brown/blonde hair and I feel like Disney is never going to make a princess like that. And I LOVE princess I wish I was a princess and Moana is my fav
It would be nice if they made a new story about a princess that was tan or black, we shouldn't have to get a reskin and they call it representation. It's like giving us handy downs when you can easily buy something new, this shouldn't be encouraged
As a little girl who was a redhead, Ariel has ALWAYS been my favorite because SHE had red hair!!! She looked like me! MY princess was a mermaid, how cool! And now, there is a new generation of children who can be excited to also have a mermaid princess that looks like them! I can't wait to see the movie! :D
Love that you talked about The Little Mermaid. Same happened to me with Encanto. I saw a female character with a nose and skin just like mine and I cried. It’s so important. 💕
i cry every time i watch the videos of little kids reacting to the new little mermaid😭 now i’m waiting on a plus size princess??👀 please tell me if there is one bc i need to see!!
Aw i love ur perspective on the Disney princesses !!! I could cry thank you for sharing ur experience and talking abt a topic like this so more ppl r educated why this is important!🥺❤️❤️😍
I haven't heard anything about this nor saw any of the videos yet but I'm about to cause just listening to you talk about it got this momma all choked up. How amazing of you talking about this. Thank you ❤️ Lots of love from this Northern Michigan Momma ❤️💕
I just wish they would make more new princesses and prince of color. They deserve their own og poc characters. Like we had a few growing up but that's not enough compared to how many we have.
Dear Flynn's Mom, You popped that bow on Maisy's head and Rowan said, "I like that baby." I told him that is Flynn's Sissy. He said, "Oh, I love her." Rowan wants to know if Flynn loves Fortnite? We don't play the game or anything. Rowan just likes the toys Peely and Fishstick. Love, Rowan's Mom P.S. See you in DC!!! YAY!!!!
I get what you were saying bc I could actually rarely relate to a Disney princess growing up bc they were always fair skinned with dark hair very few were with blonde hair, fair, and blue eyes, and I married a ginger with very fair skin and red hair but when we brought those princess to life they weren’t celebrated either it was just there so I don’t see why it’s so celebrated that the little mermaid that was just originally white turned black I don’t think that’s right we have Princess Tianna and they could make more they are literally Disney I just don’t understand why we had to give up one of our original films I am not racist I promise you have nothing against it but since this is such a hard comment, just love you
Being a primary school teacher one of my kids once came to school wearing glittery Belle-shoes. What really made my cry tears of joy was the other kids reacting to this little boy‘s outfit: They were just like yeah anybody no matter if girl or boy can be a princess. So proud of my kids 🥰
Yes, I agree with this being exciting… but lets not forget Tiana. And would people be upset with making Tiana white? I’m all for being all inclusive and creating up to date images. But I was a teen when Ariel and Eric came out. My brothers name is Eric and we’re Latinos and I was in love. Now he’s married to a girl named Ariel. My niece loves the cartoon version and is a bit confused as to why Ariel and Eric dont look like her parents anymore. I think we need to make more diverse characters and Disney has been doing that.
way to go Wesley!!! soon baby sis will follow suite. super excited for you all! they grow so fast. Best of luck for all there milestones after being premees!🥰😄
@Charlotte R my kids are all teenagers now my youngest 2 girls were both born a month early so they we always what you'd say "behind" but now that they're 16 and 14 they are both unique smart and strong. 🥰 my oldest is now a senior in high school. So I say definitely soak in all these big changes.
As a black woman whose favorite Disney movie was the Little Mermaid growing up. I cry every time I see the Trailer. I know I'm going to be sobbing in the movie theater!
Ariel was always my favorite because she looked like me- red hair and blue eyes. So NGL…I was disappointed in the casting. Not because she’s black, but because she didn’t look like me anymore. I love that another generation is getting to embrace her story and see themselves in the character. Just a little sad for the blue eyed red headed little girls. My blue eyed blond daughter will love her regardless. She has Barbie and Cinderella and Elsa…etc etc lol
It makes me so sad that people still think it’s more important that Ariel isn’t white and redhead than making little black girls so so happy when they see this iconic Disney princess black just like them. It’s so so selfish and it disgusts me, I’m sorry but it’s my opinion. Equality is important. I’m mixed and even though I’m not black it also gets to me and seeing my little cousins happy fills my heart. If you can’t see that I’m so sorry. Society is frustrating…
Tiana…………. Princess and the frog?……………. I am honestly sick of racism they should just choose the best person for the job not the person most politically correct it’s mest up! If this Ariel does a great job and portraying the roll of Ariel good on her that’s great but don’t cry over it there are tons of black characters in movies for little girls to look up to and gee there’s also white!
I am First Nations, Indigenous, or however you'd like to phrase it. And sure there is Pocahontas, but I feel so unconnected to her. It is a movie made in a not great time and I dont feel the representation is correct or accurate. And I am so happy for the Latina community and the African community to have that representation. But in media First Nations peoples are still portrayed to be drugies, alcoholics, gang members, and horribly stereotyped and type cast still. I hope for a day to have that connection to a character I feel so many people are getting lately.
Not me just bopping with Maisy. But for real I’m a dancer and am praying, praying maisy is also a dancing queen. Whatever these kids do it’ll be amazing!!!!!
I wish there was a thing where brands sent clothes/products to families that couldn’t afford it instead of the opposite. Lol but I know it’s a way for them to get other ppl to buy it.
But then there’s the people saying Ariel shouldn’t be played by a black girl 😞 I think the movie is going to be awesome and I’m glad they are switching some things up!! ❤️
Does anyone else start bobbing their head and singing along with Flynn to the intro? Just me okay.. LOL... This is the first video I watch in the morning to start my day today and it just makes me happy every time I hear little Flynn's voice puts me in a good mood ✌️☀️
I love you Queen hope you are well and you look amazing and unique unbelievable and amazing unbelievable and person and so awesome sweet and so proud of you keep it up the great work I love you ❤️
For all that awful people who dislike the movie just because the actress, don't go see it if you don't want, it is NOT for you but for all that little people who are excited to see it, and for those adults who are expecting it
I loveeeeeeeee soooo much. my brothers and sisters make me feel like poo I don’t want to say the word but they make me feel like poo and you just make me so happy and your family. you always make my day you are the light of my day loveeeeeee you I hope I get to see you On Tour
I say this from a caring perspective having just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes; Colleen needs to be more careful about what she eats as she is currently a prime candidate for diabetes.
Tortilla Talk Question: Does your therapist watch your vlogs or do you keep them separate? I love you Colleen and wish the best for your family! -Chloe, a fan from England
Colleen thank you for talking about the Little Mermaid. As a black woman I have also been crying off an on about the reactions to it. Hearing little Black girls say "she's Brown/Black like me!" just shatters my heart in the best way and I cried again listening to you talk about it. It's so so so special and thank you for acknowledging it.
i dont know why but when i watch you make cookies or you say youre going to make cookies, its like an instant comfort/cozy warm feeling trigger! lol. i dont even like cookies all that much but you making cookies at the end of the day just reminds me of christmas. everytime. even when you make them in the summer.
i love the way you talk to Flynn like he’s an adult or in the same way you would a friend. and that had nothing to do with the friend vs parent thing, i mean like how you talked to Flynn about how you dropped your pressed powder. just casual conversation and it’s so freaking cute
The thing about little mermaid, it’s not even about her skin color. She auditioned like several other women. She was just the best for the role and got it. Her story isn’t changed by her skin color she’s just perfect for the role.
I felt the same way about Pocahontas. It was the first time it felt like me. The closest I ever felt that way about something was when I could find a Barbie that had darker hair, but still wasn’t like me.
