So many RU-vid shorts creators like masteroogway and speed McQueen base their entire content on brain rot and some form of a racist, homophobic, sexist, or discriminatory joke. ive seen this in person where kids are led to believe this type of behavior is ok because their “favorite RU-vid shorts creator” is doing the same. thank you Ben for addressing this issue.
As a black person you can make a good edgy joke about black people. I'm not immune to a chuckle at a watermelon or fried chicken joke, or even a slavery joke, but straight up just saying a slur isn't. A joke. That's literally just. Saying a word. I'm a black girl in middle school, and im already seeing the effects of maser oogway's type of content. I'm not going to go into details because of how depressing it is, but one thing that I will tell you I do wake up in the morning and regret being born with the color of my skin, I get called awful names because of it and sometimes wish i could just be like everyone else. I knew someone who “acted” super racist all the time, and he would just say it’s a joke. Until he made a real bad joke about the Chinese, and when confronted about it, it was abundantly obvious he was serious (and a moron). He used the “dark humor” as an outlet for his real beliefs while pretending it wasn’t. He lied to himself as well, and I think a lot of people hide their racism that way.

Im so glad I’m not the only person that noticed how problematic this actually is! Most content I see nowadays is racist, homophobic, transphobic, or sexist and it’s just horrible. They’re getting famous for all the wrong reasons.
I dislike that type of content as well. I have never found it funny and I don't get why people get praise for making problematic content like that. It can be funny in rare circumstances, but most of those jokes that I see are just people saying or doing something offensive without a punchline.
If that’s all you’re getting, then chances are that you’re interacting with it (probably commenting saying that the content is bad) the algorithm likes controversy
what makes dark humor so popular is that it's such a thin line between funny, risky humor, and straight up ignorance and insensitivity. People like oogway aren't clever enough to understand that there needs to be a middle ground in dark humor, and so he just ends up being a racist jerk.

I think Oogway made a video a year or so ago showing his content to one of his minority friends to see if he'd approve of the jokes, and while I thought it was OK at the time, looking back it really just feels like the YT equivalent of "I can't be racist, I have a black friend"

Something that I feel needs to be said is that hate should not be held against anyone. No one should hate anyone. In my opinion, hating someone who has wronged you or someone who just makes everything worse is just as bad as hating the most loving, caring, person you can think of outside of family, and of course, family.

Here's a word of advice, racism doesn't come from racist jokes. As long as you love people no matter who they are and love them all the same you don't have to worry. I actually find a lot of racist jokes really funny, but I have a lot of friends of many different races so while I can say racist things they need to all be understood as jokes. Dark humor can be funny but a lot of content creators execute it wrong

His fanbase is full of so many kids worshipping him to a point where there hasn't been any super mainstream criticism (Like million view type criticism) on him. There's so many things wrong with him that once these videos start gaining more popularity, he won't be able to defend himself, and he's done for.

I have 0 problem with either speed or oogway. They can make whatever they want. Is something wrong with that? Speed isn’t even repetitive with his jokes. They are varied.

Mad respect Ben, I have done bad jokes before, but I am a small channel, and most won't care, and it is bad. I was surprised when Oogway said that. I have gone bad saying things like nazis in an obviously joking manner, but never to go as far as to say the n-word. In fact, I lost many subs for stopping my channel, had over 2x as many subs. i am jewish, i always thought that master oogway took things too far, i can understand his opinion about palestine, but the self comparison was horrible. and what was even worse was the hitler song. it went beyond just defending palestine into attacking jews and spreading anti-Semitism. Jews and israelis are not the same people. He has gone too far.

Here’s the thing. As an Asian person, I’ve made numerous “racist” jokes to my black friend. She does the same to me. We discuss and talk about boundaries when we joke together. We know when something goes too far, we apologise sincerely, mk? With my dad, I also make jokes about our OWN culture. Those are the funniest, ngl. But it’s NOT like we’re hating. Using stereotypes lightly, like someone such as Steven He, and using it lightly, is good. Remember, the line between hate speech and dark humour is a thin one. Don’t cross to the wrong side.
I'm also Asian, and i also make some "racist" jokes to my black and white friends. But there are boundaries "just like you said" Like this is just not funny anymore.
I think that as long you are either A: joking around with someone who you know will not take it personally B: joking about your own race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, trauma ECT Or C: a stand-up comedian You can make dark humor jokes (just remember the humor part)

It’s like that SpongeBob episode where he makes a joke, and people love it. He repeats the joke and it gets really old. I use that comparison with Master Oogway. His jokes WERE funny but it’s just old now.
He wasn't ever funny honestly. Like 2 years ago he kept getting recommended to me and I don't think I ever laughed at them ( and even then they were usually racist or homophobic to a smaller degree) . I'm glad RU-vid stopped pushing his stuff.

I like dark humor but there’s a point where jokes aren’t funny or witty or shocking, there just racist or homophobic or sexist. Like it’s one thing to make fun of a stereotype, but when the joke IS the stereotype it’s just not that funny anymore and feels like it’s come from a place of hate and ignorance rather than a place of joking and trying to make people laugh.

Homophobic jokes can be REALLY FUNNY (I'm gay and love them) but it needs to be funny in the first place. Offensive things can be all in good fun but you have to make sure everyone knows you're not being harmful. As long as everyone agrees on the jokes they can go as far as possible but everyone needs to be on the same page
Another example of this is speedmcqueen1. almost all of his videos are just stolen or making sexist/racist/homophobic jokes, and most of his audience is kids. I’ve seen so many kids just have their stance on politics just because they watch videos like this. I’ve seen at least 20 kids just commenting things like “men are better. gay people suck” and it’s not helping that he’s just gaining followers very fast.
I’m glad Ben addressed this, he’s not even black and he’s still standing for our community. Master Oogway just keeps getting more and more unfunny as he posts more videos and he needs to learn that the “jokes” he’s making are just plain racism.

Most of the RU-vid Shorts RU-vidrs fell of honestly But on a serious note Master Oogway isn't the only one that's been doing this, one I can think of is Speed McQueen (Pretty sure that's his name), he's been making a various large amount of the same repetitive "dark humor" jokes for a while, and it's been majority of his content for nearly the entire time he's been on the platform, at first it wasn't too bad but it just got to the point where it's NOT funny anymore and it's resorted to either making fun of a historical person or event, or making fun of an ethnicity or some minority. As I said it isn't JUST Oogway, or Speed, there's a lot of others doing the same, and it needs to be acted upon. Sorry for yapping so much.
I have to disagree with Speed. Speed Mcqueen actually stopped with the racism and the dark humor jokes (about the dark humor, he still have them but it's less now). He's now making videos with somebody else's sound, it's unoriginal but atleast he credits them.

A court would more than likely fall with DreamWorks, assuming that this does go to one. Ben also didn't mention the fact MasterOogway was literally dissing a smaller content creator Scott Frenzel with Master's song, saying that Scott's song shouldn't be as popular even though Scott Frenzel took over half a year to make, and it getting over 200k shorts.
I don't like Scott (just find his whole "Braces Kid" thing annoying as shit) and his music is just OK to me but Master OOgway can't be talking. Scott makes actual music while Oogway made "Adolf Hitler is my N word"

Oogway was getting too comfortable with their viewers, back then he was making motivation and Master Oogway voice over which was actually cool. But the fact he went a dark path is like crazy
Why do so many people forget that dark humour isn’t meant to be offensive, I love making dark humour jokes but whenever I do it’s joking about myself, my own race, gender, sexuality, disabilities, trauma, ect. never about any other people or communities because dark humour isn’t meant to hurt others
