@@careless-minds yes NY in the 80's was high population, quick and aggressive. Even courting was literally pushing your way in, muscling/grabbing a chick and hemming her up against a wall to talk to her. Like getting in a cab while it's stuck in traffic.

All praises due to the God….his style is two part….first off his influenced by jazz timing he use to play the saxophone…secondly he broke bars down to 4 by 4 and seen how many rhyming words he could fit in each bar…a style Nas Eminem Kendrick to name a few learnt from…..plus like a true MC he mainly talks about mic skill not his life school….masterful👑👌🏽

Melle Mel was the first one actually writing rhymes down in song form and doing routines along with his brother. His crew invented the term Emcee for rappers. they also invented the term Hip-Hop.

Melle mel got his style from dj hollywood. Hollywood is the direct influence to modern rap. Coke la rock was an unsyncipated mc in the style of the last poets. Hollywood is a syncopated rapper, they all changed their style after hearing hollywood at club 371.

This is actually one of Ra's 90's weaker hits...You gotta go to his 80's hits...Although the PUNISHER is the hardest 90's hits him & Eric B put out before they broke up...And you gotta check out his class of emcees(Krs One, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Public Enemy(who inspired the 90's Political rap rock band, Rage Against the Machine), & Kool G Rap)before you get the wrong impression that Rakim was on an Island to himself rapping

The God Emcee, Rakim Allah. His lyricism and flow is groundbreaking in hip-hop. It's his internal rhyming scheme that nobody heard before him. Literally, emceeing can be divided into two distinct eras: before Taking and after Rakim. Rather made emcees take the pen and breath control more seriously.
