The dub is obviously superior. It contains: -Speed on the verge of climaxing -That classic unnecessarily fast speech cadence -A voice actor who was willing to have his knees shattered right in the recording booth
Hot take: most dubs are better than the original Japanese because Japanese is not a very expressive language and doesn't have the minute descriptiveness of English
@@OrangeXenon54 most? You're high on heroin dude! Almost all English dubs are outright trash because the lack emotions and very terrible at voice acting. The only anime where English dub is superior to Japanese sub is Cowboy Bebop
Its interesting looking at early Japanese dubs, so many were so freaking quiet it starts to make sense why English dubs tried to add in a lot more talking.
They're "so freaking quiet" because the Japanese probably realized that they could tell the story visually and that dialogue wasn't always needed. American cartoons of this time period, on the other hand, usually had constant dialogue and narration. This distinction is also apparent when comparing Japanese and American comics.
One thing I dislike about the dub (audio wise) is that some of the episodes are pitch shifted up instead of what was intended, as I know that wasn't suppose to sound like (I remember when I owned that VHS that contained the Mammoth Car and it was shifted in the regular tone). I'm not sure what happened when Speed Race Enterprise handled the rights.
Yeah, that's an issue with the 2000 DVD's and any subsequent releases of the dub. I believe the reasoning was to shorten the eps to fit the cartoon network broadcast times (I've tried doing pitch corrections to some eps and posted them in the SR discord)
@@Cr4z3d Yeah, I've edited some scenes in my free time to match up with their original Speed (using the japenese version for reference) and it does make a noticble difference (Especially with Speed's voice)

I kinda prefer the sub...it's irony that he's calling Go a fool...and then this bigger fool just falls off the cliff. Sure, the dub is meme worthy because of the yell, but that also makes the driver a bigger idiot BECAUSE HE'S NOT PAYING ATTENTION!
What did the guy actually say in Japanese? The subtitle says you fool, but it does sound like Bakeri, sounds more like he's saying some variation of dame.
