@@Spyder7051 He was talking about the future if he was varsity football he could get a football scholarship if hes varsity band he'd get a band scholarship but then again he could get both as well
We had a tuba player who would play football and every half time he would come running up to the band screaming “WHERES MY TUBA I NEED TO PLAY” he was a legend
We have a girl who plays sax in marching band and is also a cheerleader. Another one of the saxes wants to play football next year as well as marching band
@@cardsfighter2 starting left tackle for East Golden Bears, class of 2019. Check your flawed logic, #57 btw. Oh- and I said I was varsity, not variety 😁 if we wanna be petty.
Bruuh I played baritone in band. I always felt like it was a chore, and HATED it cause it wasn't a "cool" instrument...now I realize it was just a me problem, cause I have no doubt that this dude was the life of EVERY party, baritone or not 😂
As someone who marched with one of those infernal things, I loved every minute of it. This guy's an absolute hero though, holding one of those up for a full show was brutal. He's already played two quarters of football, and still going harder than the other people who just had to sit in the stands. I'm proud to share an instrument with this guy. Ape together strong.
@@Lobster_Juice he’s obviously doing his homework cause he’s still in both of them. Second as high schoolers we run on no sleep. Sleeping is for people who have their life planned out. Where trying to get our shit done.
@@Lobster_Juice actually in our school you get to choose how many you can choose and the games are all in different seasons, maybe that’s why our school kept losing lol
I hope he gets in the college he wants to go to because he definitely deserves that and every other young adult that works this hard to achieve their goals 🎉
My cousin did this in high school as well. Same energy. I had to squint for a second to see if it was him before I remembered the school colors are different.
Being from a small town in Texas, I didn’t realize till now that it isn’t normal to have at least 20% of the band wearing football and cheerleading gear during halftime💀
AYO BRO SAMEEE I was a varsity football player and a trumpet section leader in the band, and of course small town meant I had to also do track and field and tennis 😂
I’m literally a 7 am to 9 pm kid at my school. I’ve asked the principal if I could live in the basement since I literally just go home to sleep. Small school life
our band last year was like 2/3s seniors and they all had to be in somewhat formal attire for the senior game. every other spot in the show was jeans, suits, polos and dresses lol
I understand this too well. I was on my schools dance team and choir. They decided to have an ensemble of all of the arts programs. The choir was set up next to the stage so I remember ducking beneath the curtains to run around the back before jumping to my section. I was singing in my leotard between costume changes. It was so tiring I ended up lip syncing the last song because I was too out of breath from the dancing 😂
This was me. Just imagine a big as offensive lineman in full gear holding a clarinet. Edit: To answer some questions on how I managed both band and football during game day. For my freshman and sophomore years, it wasn't too bad because I was on the JV team and the band only performed in Varsity games. Then for junior year on the varsity team, I would perform in the halftime shows, then go immediately into stretching with the team, while my line coach basically gives me the "sparks notes" version of the half time adjustments. However, by senior year, I was being looked at by a few collages. Because football was my main priority and I really wanted to go all-out, just in case I will never play ball again, I reluctantly dropped band to shift all my focus on football. I earned my letters for both athletes and band, which was pretty cool though.
@@Milk-ck1wvYes humans have this crazy ability called making an educated guess. Everyone we've ever met like this has been smart and nice, it's fair to say he is too. But thanks for showing your disconnection from humanity I guess, we'll keep an eye on you
Like someone else said I too had a classmate who was a football player and was in the band (percussion). But he did quit because it took a toll on him. Because the band practice dates, and Football practice dates were at the same day and time. But to all football players that are also in the band your doing an amazing job. It might get hard but we here to support you. 💖
*We have Band members who are in Football, Cheerleading and so on. HALFTIME performance they go to the field. Once it's over they go to the locker room. We had Prom maids and Queens marching in Full Gowns. I ABSOLUTELY love seeing students multitasking*
I had a buddy play wide receiver in high school but also was on the drum line. Right before halftime buddy got lit up in the open field on a crossing route without a doubt was concussed but still played the show flawlessly after the game he asked what position we placed in the marching contest.😅
Wide receiver! HIT ME FROM THE REAR! He said I put both of my feet down and still I didn't get the point, he said the referee musta been smoking a joint.
Now that is a talented kid that is committed. On top of that he is almost guaranteed a college scholarship to any school he wants because he plays one of the tubas. As tuba players are actually in demand. If he get a scholarship for football we could actually see him on the national stage.
We had cheerleaders in the band, as well as a few football players. This is exactly how we handled it as well. The only time the uniform truly matters is for competition.
@@thatcherbuck and I also hear a trumpet as well and I think people don't realise that's a baritone or horn (prob horn) he's playing which you wouldn't be able to hear over the trumpet solo and the trombone blasting
Often, you can't. Depends on the school. Football coach didn't mind, (though he was the sort to think he was being funny about it when in actuality he was being mercilessly over the line, particularly for an authority) but our band director wouldn't hear word one about it. "Football, you say? Welp, there's the door. Weak links and divided focus don't win championships . Apparently, you're taking the IC and your fourth period's now study hall. Bye."
Yeah, I know a few schools around me that allowed it, surprisingly, it was the bigger schools that allowed it, in my rinky dink town, we were definitely not allowed.
I play the bassoon and had to learn the clarinet over the summer so I could be in marching band. I’m also in FFA, soccer, three honors classes, wind ensemble (varsity band), and I’m an equestrian outside of school. I’m also a freshman currently, hella stressed but I’m very happy with where I am in life currently
Cello and trumpet in middle school. I legitimately cried when our director said the band and orchestra would be playing together. Mostly because I didn’t know if I should wear the button down and skirt for band, or the long dress for orchestra!
Definitely a thing. I play mellophone, flute, French horn next semester, potentially tuba next year (up to our director), and I actively participate in FFA, plus I help run our GSA.
@@francislost1 exactly my high school was very small, if i’m correct my graduating class had maybe 40 students max and not many people had interest in sports
@@shockzwithtpthe proportion is high relative to the total amount of students though, assuming an even distribution, that’s like 4 from your graduating class. 10% of the grade.
This is now it was when I was in high school. Kids were truly all around student athletes and participated in more than one school related organization.
Our school once the players made it to varsity football the coaches and band directors made you chose one or the other to commit all your time to. I think all the other teams and organizations were like that because we never had anyone from dance or cheer or any of that. But then again it was the stereotype back then of we (each team/org) hated one another for the most part. Across town though at another school my homie player flute and was the kicker 🤣
@Trinity M I'm gonna show my age here, but that was the way it was for me too. I graduated in 1998 and I was in band and also did flags and rifles in the marching band. It was legit a FULL on commitment and we were GRADED on it during our "summer practices" because we (the band) started school 2 weeks before everyone else to start learning our field show routine, parade dress, and all music. 12 hour days, 5 days a week for 2 weeks. Then school started and it was everyday during class, sectionals during study hall 2x a week, and every day for another 2-3 hours after school, plus game nights and competitions on the weekend. When football was over, pep band started for basketball games and we still had local parades and competitions to do. It was crazy! I miss it though. Still a band geek at heart. Love a great drumline cadence 🎵🎵🎵 and watching the new generation play 💜
This was a normal thing at my high school. Cheerleaders on the drumline, football players marching. And it actually was a big school. It’s just our teachers would find ways for you to do both if you wanted to. This guy has a different energy though. The way he looks like he’s putting his entire soul into that visual is hysterical
Good for this young gentleman! I think it's totally awesome! He really seems to be enjoying himself, and it's great he's able to pull off both these two demanding extracurricular activities. I wish him much future success. 😀
In marching band there’s cheerleaders, jrotc, sports players of all kinds, and especially people who play other instruments as well. It’s nice when people are able to do multiple things they enjoy
Bro I can relate. Hell on Fridays or weekends we had to report to the band hall before 5 or 6:00 to practice stuff and depending on who we played against, we wouldn't be back to school till 12:00 or 1:00 then be back at the band hall before 6:00 for UIL. Ah good old days.
Our daughter wasn't an athlete, but still spent a large part of her week at school at LEAST 12 hours a day because of her extracurriculars. Those are the kids that excell after high school too it seems.....
