This movie may be cliche to Lucy, but in the 1980's it was mind blowing. It also made a lot of people more aware of how badly technological advancements could go in a wrong direction. From the perspective of people who saw it in the theater, it seems like the possibility of this movie's future becoming reality was more likely with every passing year. To answer Daniel's question about being listed in the phonebook, in the pre-internet years, whenever you signed up for telephone service, the phone company would automatically publish your name and address in the phonebook. If you wanted an "unlisted number", then you had to pay an extra monthly fee to keep your name and address out of it.
yeah, I suppose that nowadays since we ARE in the future in the eyes of the period that concerns the movie, we are more familiar with the idea of technology going wrong
Yeah saying something is cliche that was made 40 years ago before any of these other movies were made is such a ridiculous thing to say....I usually watch every Terminator reaction and usually everyone of any sex or any age fall in love with it and it doesnt mean u have to like it but her negativity is too much so had to turn off....
@@garydodd2837 well we both really enjoyed the movie to be honest, sorry if it came out that we didn't 😅 believe me, if she really had not liked the movie she would have said it, straight up, I hate this! Sci-Fi and fantasy in general is still not her thing, but well, it is my mission to show her all the great movies that she would not have checked out on her own 😋
I think a lot of people have come to the conclusion that the technology WILL go wrong and it's just a matter of how soon and what it will be.@@ptthatswhatshesaid
It's good that you were able to convince Lucy to watch the first Terminator movie, and she will probably become more invested in the storyline as she sees more of the franchise. Especially since we see so many things happening in the world today that indicate something similar to Skynet becoming "self-aware" is not such a farfetched idea.@@ptthatswhatshesaid
And hopefully Cameron will give us a brand new 4K transfer with a completely remastered Atmos soundtrack. Get rid of the squeaky toy sound for his 5.1 longslide
Referring to phone books you said, "I think you had to have a listed number." That's true, but 99% of people did. An unlisted number had to be requested specially.
This is the problem of young people watching movies in "reverse order". They are jaded by today's technology and expecting old movies to be as good as new ones visually. Plus, there is so much entertainment out there that we all get to see 100 variations of every story idea these days. They can't tell what things were like when they were first conceived. While I understand their POV, it is too bad that they can't quite put themselves back in time to imagine the wonder of the audience in those days. Us older folk remember the old tech (or lack thereof) and have seen all the leaps. It was also interesting to see her reaction when her roommate's boyfriend gave her a peck as she left the apartment. That is such a 2020s reaction regarding personal space. In the old days, people were much more touchy feely even in simple friendly moments. No one would think anything of it.
🤭 about the peck on the cheek you are very right xD first reaction was "what the hell..." On the full edit we quickly just dismissed as they are all friends and that is it 😂
And one Arnold thought should have been changed. AS had a discussion with James Cameron concerning the "I'll be back" line as he thought as a cyborg his feeling was it should be "I will be back" after a lengthy back and forth JC ended it by saying " I don't tell you how to act... Don't tell me how to write" 😊
@@raybernal6829 I think Schwarzenegger had trouble saying it so he wanted to CHANGE it, but Cameron knew he had trouble saying so he wanted him to say it.
@@libertyresearch-iu4fy as he has told this story on more than a few occasions in different interviews he said he felt a non human(in this case a cyborg) would not put "I and will together to form I'll". Obviously Mr Cameron disagreed.
The sci'l-fi movies of today got their inspiration from the 1984 Terminator film of yesterday. The Terminator was a unique film for its day. THIS is the movie that would be the leader to all future sci-fi films to model from. In my opinion, it still holds up 👌 very well. -OG
My favourite part, and a sad fact, is when Kyle said that he always wondered what Sarah was thinking at that moment in the picture. And she was thinking in Kyle during that tape record. Lovers across time....
Its beautifully poetic. Unfortunately ive heard reactors say that its really creepy and uncomfortable that Kyle fell in love with Sarah through a photo. These people act like they get to dictate other peoples lives. The people dont seem to be able to understand human emotions or accept human frailty.
@@ptthatswhatshesaid - John Connor brought Kyle into his inner circle as a friend and trusted lieutenant... never telling him what he was destined to do. But he made sure to tell him lots of stories about Sarah, and give him that picture. So when the time came to send someone to protect Sarah, Kyle was quick to volunteer.
Almost in the first scene with the three guys, the blue haired is Bill Paxton, a very well known actor who appeared in Titanic, Aliens or Twister, among another ones.
The cool thing about time travel movies is that everyone has their own version of "what would happen if..." The scenarios are too broad. As Sarah said in the end, it can drive you crazy thinking about it. 😂
The sci-fi that Lucy needs to see is Blade Runner. Lucy is sharp and this is a more cerebral movie. Also, the effects are all practical and very well done. Oh, and Daniel, marry that woman!
I've noticed that out of all the reactors I've seen watch this movie, the female reactors always seem to figure out Kyle is the father super early. A lot of them before they even hint at it in the movie. It's so funny. And here Lucy is, figuring it out early.
If you have just a tiny little hunch that this movie may include a love story, it is of course fairly obvious that the romance will be between Sarah and Kyle, and from there it is not hard to figure out that Kyle is also the father of John Connor.
Most the reactors I've seen, especially the males, don't seem to guess until they are literally doing it in the hotel. At least it's the first time they verbally acknowledge it within the RU-vid edits. Also note I didn't say it was really hard to figure out, I'm just saying it seems like the females say it earlier than the boys, some even say it when Reese is first explaining the situation to Sarah in the car right after the bar/club scene near the beginning. At that point it feels a bit early, especially for a horror/action movie.
@@mattschliemann9683 I honestly cannot answer when I would have "figured" that out since I saw the second movie first, but I had no idea that guys would take that long to consider that possibility! 🤦♂
@@ptthatswhatshesaid it's possible they figured it out but didn't say it verbally, or they figured it out and it was in their Patreon edit, but going on what I can see in RU-vid edits, the guys seem to pick it up later. And I'm not even saying the guys are slow, more so that the girls seem to figure it out first. Sometimes much earlier than they really should. Sometime they might even say it as a joke, which of course come out to be the truth. I dunno when I would have figured it out, I think I saw T2 in theaters, I must have watched the first movie before that, but definitely within the year before T2 came out. I didn't get to watch it til I had my own money to buy my own movies on vhs/dvd. I'm positive I knew the basics of the story before I watched it, that the terminator wants to kill Sarah and that Sarah and Kyle got together to make John. But I didn't know at all what happened, outside of those basics, in the movie til I saw the movie.
@@mattschliemann9683 Right, that's true, a lot of times people comment on things we don't say in the youtube edits but we actually address on the full length! xD Same for me, when I saw the first one I knew the basics of the story, so that's why it was so interesting for me to watch it with someone who knew zero about it!
Phone book: If you had a phone, it was listed in the phonebook. It was difficult to get an unlisted number. You had to justify this. It was a more sane era. The Yellow Pages were in the back. They were for commercial numbers. A government section was either in the very front, or between the white pages and the Yellow Pages.
@@ptthatswhatshesaid Hmmmm, I don't recall that 'unlisting' had to be justified (in the USA). Though I believe it was more expensive. So, anyone who wanted/needed 'privacy' could have it.
@@ptthatswhatshesaidyeah, but theyd still have to, ya know, go get the book, look up the last name, and match the name and address... if they knew the address... the owner of the account would be the one listed. If you were living there, and you didnt have a 2nd dedicated line, you werent listed. You could pay extra for an unlisted number, or just get an answering machine to screen calls. Before answering machines, there were message services... humans would intercept your missed calls. Technically, phone books still exist online...you can look up cel numbers on the internet.
I remember you just had to pay extra for an unlisted number. Everywhere I lived though whoever made phone books actually delivered them to every house. I don't think you even had to pay for it. And if you somehow didn't have them you could go to some stores and ask for one and they'd just give it to you for free. They still do make phone books where I live, but naturally they aren't needed as much now we have the internet. They don't deliver them here anymore, you do have to go get them.
They still deliver them here. When I was a young man, long ago, you could only get an unlisted number if you were in a profession where you might be targeted if your number was listed. Later they started making money off of it by selling the option.@@mattschliemann9683
Since special effects has such an effect on Lucy that the “very poor” quality of the special effects and the resulting “lack of reality” negatively impacted her view of this ’84 sci-fi classic (along with its “cliché” plot), and she is under the impression that “it was one of the first action movies” (thanks to Daniel), I suggest she watch movies by Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, the pioneers of action movies. See if it helps to cure this cliché affliction of the current generation that makes it suckers for modern special effects and think everything began in the 80’s, 90’s, etc.
We are always up for learning more, that's for sure! We just say what we think (which is limited to our knowledge of course) and what we feel. Believe me when I say that we had a lot of fun watching this movie! I did considered this one of the first action movies, at least in sense of the modern action movie genre, I have repeatedly been told that the first real modern one was First Blood About how special effects affect our suspense of disbelief , I do think its a subjective topic. I very often disagree with her, because I really prefer practical effects, and CGI (despite being an art form as well) usually is not to my taste.
Its a shame you saw this low budget masterpiece with the horrible 5.1 remix. They ruin several sounds to create the 5.1 channels. The Terminators 45 longslide is supposed to sound like a cannon. In this remix, his 45 longslide hand cannon sounds too much like a squeaky toy
Hi Daniel and Lucy shame that she didn't enjoy the film but for me it's one of my favourites along with the second one, and I also know which film Lucy was talking about personally I'm not a big fan of the later films but Lucy may like them more than this one, and when Arnie wanted to get away from bodybuilding his first film was Hercules in New York back (1970), but the role that made him famous was as Conan in the film Conan the Barbarian (1982) and It's sequel Conan The Destroyer (1984), he made The Terminator after making it big in those 2 films first, also would love to see what Lucy thinks of the film Bladerunner (1982) and the Conan Films as well.
I'm hoping the second one will win her over for sure 🤞 but we did have a great time watching this one! Blade Runner is a great suggestion, and the Conan movies would be interesting because I also have never seen those 😅
@@JJgibson1 I think I would be part of that group yeah 😅 but anyways, we let's just be thankful that the 2 movies exist! It's the same with Alien 1 and 2, I'm glad they both exist!
@stevey5151 I can see your point, T2 is certainly a much more mainstream commercial movie. But it's so good though... even though I have to say that rewatching the first one made me appreciate it more for sure
I don't believe the movie aged badly. Even if they did not have the money to do something better, the effects can be easily explained, he went through accidents, he looks like the doll they used for the surgery. It takes a lot for me to think it's "not real". But what is real in the end? This Arnold face puppet that exist in real life? They had to build it. Or the computer generated imagery they use nowadays which doesn't look real either? I watched "the making of terminator" and how they realized these effects/shots was incredible. It's like they went outside, picked up some sticks, rocks, mud, and built a city. Yes it was efficient use of nothing, they made something out of nothing. So you don't like ladies with long black hair? if you liked the ring/ringu then maybe you will like the grudge. Only that it's a bit complicated as the grudge 2004 is a remake of the best scenes from the director's original student films Ju-on: The curse and Ju-on: The Grudge (2000-2003). The 2004 version is an american remake, so it has known actors, but personally I liked the low budget/Japanese only aspect of the original 4 movies (about 4hrs runtime i think).
Really enjoyed watching your reactions. Not a Patron yet, but I could have two small recommendations. I do have great respect for persons with phobias, etc., but, still having regard to that, the best movie for Lucy and other "AI" skeptics/paranoids is usually considered to be "I, Robot", which is also a really good movie. Modern special effects, a happy ending, and one of the few "Will Smith" movies I really enjoyed him in. Second, I did check all your prior videos and saw that you reviewed "Gladiator" some time ago. A precursor to Gladiator was "Sparticus", starring Kirk Douglas, Sir Laurence Olivier, Peter Ustinov, Tony Curtis, and directed by Stanley Kubrick (Daniel might know who some of these people were). Kubrick also did "2001 A Space Odessy" and "Clockwork Orange". (The runtime for Sparticus is 3 hours and 16 minutes, so store some popcorn). As for other genre's on your "playlist", don't forget "Promethius" in the "Aliens" series, which I consider the best of the lot! Have fun!
First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment ☺ Of course eventually she has to see some Stanley Kubrick movies, I was thinking of starting with Full Metal Jacket since she loves military movies. I actually really like I Robot xD need to add it to our sci-fi movies list for sure, I agree that she would really enjoy it And yes, from the Alien series, one of my personal favourites is indeed Prometheus 😅 I was thinking in showing her Alien 3 to finish off Ripleys storyline, and then that one 🤔
Much praise. So few reactors catch that, when he said he always wondered what she was thinking about, she was thinking about him. A love lost across time. Still hits heavy.
First visit to your channel - do like your reaction a lot. Lucy as 8 year old: Please no... I am traumatized. Lucy now: Hahaha - funny (oke - not when the T-100 was damaged, but when a lot people died) 😎 Sums up my experience although I was already a bit older when it was released. Short history about phone books: Its really weird how times are changing. I am in my mid 50s and german... and yes... telephone books with numbers AND adress were just normal in the past. You could ask the phone company (which was owned by the state back then in Germany) to not be listed. But usually people had no reason to not get listed. In USA it was a bit different cause already privatized. But I guess if you got a number you also have been automatically listed in the phone book until you demanded to not be listed. Normal people were not afraid of having their adress in a phone book. About your final statement about you expecting the future becoming totally dystopic. Did you already watch "Back to the future"? First this is a really fun movie if you like the humor. Its more a comedy. And at the end... (and in part 2 especially) they put many ideas about the future of 2015 in the movie which is not even close to be realized. And about the plots... yes... many movies copy each other. But this plot in the mid 80s was really special and unique. Also the brutality was kind of special - from people who didnt watch brutal movies at all The Terminator was indeed sort of a horror movie. Thank you very much for your reaction. As a reaction video junkie I surely will check out your channel much more 🙂
Hey, thank you so much! ☺ We do need to show her Back to the Future! she knows of it (I think her dad is a fan of it) but I don't think she has ever seen it. Hope you like our other reactions. Some things she loves others not as much xD but always have a lot of fun recording these videos 😜
your personal information is 1million times more available now than in the "phone book" days. Plus you could always just have an unlisted number if u wanted.
Yes, I would agree with that! People might say that the 1st or the 2nd are superior, buth what matters is that they are all good 👌🏻 I miss the time when we such good movies were made 😅
The thing with special effects is if not done right ( not possible at the time), they look fake, practical effects looked beter. Has she seen the '82 the thing? Very scary practical effects.
1. Linda Hamilton ROCKED. She's really built in T2. "Terminator 2 Judgment Day" is the action movie GOAT. 2. Lance Henriksen/Vukovich, Michael Biehn/Reese and Bill Paxton/punk also played in "Aliens" as Bishop, Hicks and Hudson respectively. 3.We have limited AI now. So does China.😱 4. If this wasn't a movie the ammunition would not have been available on the gun shop counter. 5. Ginger's boyfriend Matt must be a lousy lay if she needs rock and roll to "rock and roll".🙄 6. Watching people react to the eye operation is worth watching this all by itself. 7. THAT'S a bitch slap.😏
The movie actually had a low budget and affected many of their choices and abilities to create the film. I'm enjoying your honesty. Some reactors over do it or always say they really liked a film when they don't. I recommend getting separate head phones. Some movies you really need to here both left and right channels to catch everything.
Everyone thinks, how can Kyle be in love with Sarah, just because of a photo? Keep in mind that Kyle comes from the future, he knows absolutely everything about Sarah, what she did, he knows "the legend", so he knows Sarah very well. And besides, she is pretty.
For some older action movies, try: "Bullitt" (1968) "The Eiger Sanction" (1975) based on a book "Dirty Harry" (1971) "Magnum Force" (1973) sequel to "Dirty Harry" "Death Wish" (1974) based on a book "Where Eagles Dare" (1968) from a book by Alister MacLean "The Towering Inferno" (1974) based on 2 books "First Blood" (1982) "Lone Wolf McQuade" (1983) "The French Connection" (19971) true story "The French Connection 2" (1975) part 2, not a sequel and something that came out the same year as "The Terminator": "Runaway" (1984)
@@ptthatswhatshesaid, first was a nailbiting, inescapable horror/sci fi dystopian possible futureless film. Second was a flawed action film with nifty sfx, tonne of goofs/unexplained things. Original rules!
Have you ever seen an American movie where someone said to another person something like "call me, my number is in the phone book"? You guys are young, but there was a time when such a publicly available list of phone numbers and addresses was considered necessary. Now our phones memorize all the necessary numbers, addresses, emails,... and it's easy to find them online for almost any company or organization you need, but yes, as shocking as it may seem, not so long ago that's how it worked. Have you done the math? That technology will not be available for another 40 years, and it says so in 1984, that is, by 2024, which is the year we are in. The technology is still under development, but it's on track to create that and worse.
Okay. For those who are not of a certain age, it was customary for your name and phone number, at least, to be in the white pages of the phone book as part of your getting a phone installed in your house. If you wanted to not have a listed phone number it cost more per month for the service. In my case it cost 30 cents per month extra to have an unlisted phone number.
Enjoyed the reaction for the most part. I have to say I saw this when it came out and the special effects were excellent and almost everything was practical (REAL physical things you can touch and feel). I personally have a very hard time with movies these days that are full of CGI (not REAL) that are just computer generated images that in many cases makes impossible for me to relate because it is so fake. Also, to call any of this movie a cliche is absolutely ridiculous, it was the first of it's kind and ground breaking in so many ways. 1984-2024 hmmm 40 years ago. Maybe some of this has become cliche over that time because of Hollywood copy cat bs. I did not enjoy the review, not 1 bit!
This movie is before its time, skynet in the states are security services, and in China s skynet security has over 600 million cameras for recognition of citizens (for example) if you associate with someone who has a low credit score, they will lower yours and then your work to only to raise the scores back so you can purchase food, etc and USA is next, sucks right

The Terminator and the sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day (one of the best sequels in cinematic history, and even better than the original, in my opinion) certainly hold up very well in this day and age. In fact, they are even more relevant nowadays with the emergence and rapid development of artificial intelligence; Sky Net and the dawn of malicious machines are right around the corner!
That machine is called a hydraulic press. Speaking of which, I recommend the channel Hydraulic Press Channel and its off-shoot Beyond Hydraulic Press, if you enjoy hydraulic presses, engineering humor, laid back technisians and Finnish rally English.
I enjoyed your reaction! Before you watch Terminator 2, I recommend checking out a Trailer called "Terminator 2 Teaser Endoskeleton Factory". I have never seen anybody react to it yet, so it would be cool if you did, it just lasts 1 minute. I think this is a brilliant and unique trailer from back in the day, because it doesnt spoil the plot at all, like it is the often the case in modern movie trailers. This trailer doesnt even contain a single scene from the movie itself, yet it perfectly explains the setup for the 2nd movie and why there is a second Terminator. However stay away from other trailers, because they contain spoilers
Damn, I just checked it out and it's a very good way to make people excited to see the 2nd one without spoiling anything yeah! Now, unfortunately, we have recorded our reaction to the second one before I read this... I'm sorry, that is really my fault! because this is legitimately a great trailer!
@TD-mg6cd: NO! That was Sylvester Stallone who started out in porn, NOT Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold Schwarzenegger started out as a bodybuilder. He even did a bodybuilding movie - the documentary 'Pumping Iron.' Then he actually played a couple of hero roles - "Hercules" in 'Hercules in New York,' and "Conan" in 'Conan the Barbarian' before playing "The Terminator" in 'The Terminator' ( same year -1984 - as the release of the 'Conan' follow-up 'Conan the Destroyer.' )

She says the effects are very poor. Fair enough, but I'd like an example of something created in the past 15 years that looks as real/terrifying and as cool as the Terminator at 30:40.
You guys should consider watching "True Lies" (1994) also directed by James Cameron, might turn her to Schwarzenegger a bit more lol. its such a fun movie!
I liked the interrogation scenes with Dr. Silberman. "Why didn't you bring any ray guns?" I got another time travel movie suggestion for you it's one of my favorites, The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.
I believe the word “heroine” is just being taken out of context. In English, it’s the name of the drug, but also the feminine version of the masculine “hero”. A very easy slip, due to the confusing variants of English words.
Heroine is a feminine variant of hero. Heroin is the name of a drug that though spelled almost exactly the same has no connection to the word hero. They sound exactly the same so one must rely on context to distinguish between the two in voiced communication.
@@ptthatswhatshesaid In my youth there wasn't any other way but phone books to find numbers. There were no personal computers or any online to connect to if there were. It was once a matter of necessity for that information to be so provided. They would be updated annually to keep the information reasonably current. I still have a couple around but they are not quite out of date as they are no longer automatically distributed.
If I had secret knowledge about who was going to be my father and with the time travel thing, I would definitely want my dad to end up with my mom, because my entire existence depends on it. Back to Future exemplifies this plot rationale very well.
Sarah Connor is one of the true first generation strong powerful women. Linda Hamilton who played her was robbed in the sequel she should have been best actress at the Oscars.
And every young person who watches this are surprised about the phone books. And you could go to the public library and use phone books from other places.
I am in California and you need a permit, but then you absolutely can just buy a gun. I don't know the actual process but it's not hard. Ads for guns and ammo come in the mail along with ads for groceries and things. Geez this lady loves the skulls. She loves the guy getting his heart ripped out, and the guy getting blown up in the future. This woman is crazy. Though in all reacts she seems the quickest to get what's going on.
If you saw a female robot then you're talking T3. I remember watching a movie when I was young that gave me nightmares. Saw it 10 years later and wondered why it bothered me so much when I was younger. Just my young naive mind.
I'm not sure I understood what you said about the word heroine. If you had English subtitles on, then there's a difference on how you spell heroin (drug) and heroine (female hero). But maybe they are spelled in the same way in Portuguese?
"It's so weird that you could get peoples names and addresses out of a book", your right its not like where you can get peoples names and addresses with a few strokes of the keys''' your right, that technology is decades away....(Rolls eyes)
When I was young such information being a few strokes away was science-fiction. Phone books came out annually to keep the information as current as possible. I don't know if I could even get them anymore but it would have to be by special request as they are no longer automatically provided. I'd be lucky to find one at a payphone, provided I was lucky enough to find one of those these days. A person's reactions will depend on what they are familiar with. I've seen videos of people exposed to corded rotary phones for the first time that viewed them as alien artifacts despite them being the standard of my youth. One can't expect familiarity with that now outdated.
It was THAT big at it’s time, not full of clichés that, when it comes to that theme of time travel, going to the past and changing things, how the future would be that the most iconic franchise at the movies about that: Back to the Future, came OBE YEAR AFTER The Terminator! And the effects were not that low budget, yes, it was not a movie with a gigantic budget like so many seconds third or later part of any big movie franchise, but the effects were very good at that time, they came right after the big thing at movie effects that came with Star Wars, so here we see stop motion (for the only robotic part of the terminator at the end and the fake Arnold’s head for the human eye removed), and that kind of fake heads or parts of a human were very advanced at this movie at that moment… but yes, just a few years later with a way bigger budget and yes, the digital effects already being used at the movies: Terminator 2 became a huge revolution at movie effects.
@@ptthatswhatshesaid it has the charming of being the one that brought the theme, the bet for this kind of saga, the introduction of the characters, that’s the reason for being a great movie, despite being the second one with the plot twist of the good terminator and the great effects and new characters. @@oscarexcan Yeah, and I also think that the first one is the most effective in it's simplicity, the rhythm is perfect, the story, the action, Arnold as the bad guy honestly! just great Also LOVE the second though!
A lot of things in today's movies and stories that you see is actually taken from a few old movies from those years back then and one of them was Terminator. Today's stories take ideas from Terminator and Alien and Predator. Back then there was no cliché, the story was very original for its time. And she still is. Effects are good even for today. Today's effects are too much CG. Too much computer animation. So for me Terminator 1-2, Alien 1-2, Predator 1 are some of the very great movies of all time.
Hi, I've just discovered your channel and I've subscribed. Please react to this iconic sci fi movie's sequel Terminator 2 soon, it's the GOAT sequel. Production on this first movie got put back several months and in that time, director James Cameron wrote Aliens!
great movie and pretty decent reaction. Im glad he was here tor help her mind understand that at the time this was top tier and it was a low budget film even for 1984. Like he said everything she has scene post Terminator built on this so to see its a clique move but my issue with her and lot of people in her era is they have zero perspective of history. I understood in the 80's when i watched films from the 50-60s that that time period and thingf from that era were built on what i was witnessing in early 80's. Hopefully her cerebral power will increase as she ages.
Good reaction, however I disagree on the effects... to me the stop-motion and practical effects make it creepier and more real than any movies nowadays over the last 10 to 20 years, ironically the movies today to me look fake, they look like I'm watching video games so I'm not sure what you're expecting out of the movie , All the car crashes and car scenes were real and of course the future showed a lot of model spaceships but if you look at Terminator 2 next you'll see that the practical effects are incredible with very minimal CGI which is better than any CGI of today to be honest.
Oh, but it used to be, ok. In portuguese we do still have the female / male distinction. But yeah, the female way of saying hero is exactly the same as the drug 😅
