I know very, very little about mountain biking. I'm curious, how fast (on average) were they going? (at some parts it seemed *Very* fast!)... I couldn't even see where the trail was. It appeared like one little slip and *POOF!* -- off the side of the mountain they'd go!

That's what I was thinking. This kid knows every rock and curve on this trail. The poster was keeping up having seeing it for the first time ever. Not to say the kid wasn't a great rider. I'd give him a new set of tires as well.

Tip? Payment... that is the work of a day! Maybe they went for vacations and funny "diversión" but he is working and he made a great job! They live in a country where the money is at least 18 times more expensive than México... I think they could pay well for the job and not just a miserable tip. Do you have money for a $6000 bike... I think you can give at least $50 or $100.

A tip is obviously given on top of the price they were charged! After all he was their guide not their friend, he was providing a service. When have you gone to a restaurant and gave a tip without paying for your meal first?

The Jamis XR(26?) is far from a $120 bike. 1) Jamis is a brand name, not sold in Wal-Mart but sold at bike shops. 2) Wal-Mart doesn't even sell a $120 mountain bike anymore. $200+ range for STILL inferior stamped out crap from China. 3) If you find a working Jamis XR for $120, buy it quickly. They retail for about 3 to 3.5x that.
