Yes, pokemon is very similar to chess. The further ahead you can plan and think, the better. Doubles is really close to chess, you can see the full enemy team and plan ahead.

@@thezerowulf2046why? Switching is just inherently powerful and nullifying it is a pretty big deal. You can even see it here lol, it just took one turn to render a pokemon useless because it couldn’t switch out. Not saying it should be banned in doubles because I don’t have much experience with it, but shadow tag has always been toxic as hell
Nah. Sometimes you lose to a player that just does something so cool that you can't even get mad. As opposed to losing to sheer luck like getting hit by a stray fissure..
@@shanedsouza189 ok nvm this sounds worse, i guess you can laugh at just how outplayed you are, while fissure had you curse your own bad luck more than anything So one gives you some sense of control and responsibility while the other is detemined by something thats not in the control of either player
Mostly because in game - the focus isn't 2 v 2s, and in game, rarely do trainers have 6 mons to justify any in-depth strategy. That is GF fault for not easing players into competitive pokemon. Making full teams, some synergy, IV and EV, inheritence, and what not clearly explained and integral to (optional) mid game content.
@@nise6699 The choice items are named so because you’re choosing to use only one move but also get a stat increase. It’s a sacrifice: You gain a buff at the cost of only being able to select one move.
@@theguyyouwillseeeverywhere935 End of turn1: trick room Start of turn 2: trick room cancelled out. Pattern repeats. Trick room was never active for anyone but indeedee.
No, not really. Shadow Tag is busted and banned in a lot of formats for this reason. I remember pulling similar stuff to this on my friends in middle school.
You play to win the game. Period. He won within the given parameters, absolutely nothing disrespectful about using a strategic option available to anyone.
@@Annadog40 don't hate the player, hate the game. If everyone's playing under the same rules and a player figures out a strategy that works for them, they deserve respect for playing the game.
I think ever since I watched WeedleTwineedle use snatch, copycat and psych up to full effect ive realized that the most important moves in VGC are usually the status ones
@DenkisLastBrainCell idk, I just remember that name coming up a lot for some bad things a little while before thekingnappy shit really hit the fan. I know he did used to say the N-word but I remember there being something about him just being toxic or something about dms which I never saw
He was completely mentally broken down i can't imagine being in his position. I play every weekend with my brother, he used this strategy and he didn't expected me having Uturn KO Gothitelle and then make sure to switch Normal Type to Ko Goldhengo
@@espenmauseth1284 People get invested in something. Besides, war is basically the default state of humanity... Enjoy what peace you can, cause it looks like civilization is crashing down again.
@@espenmauseth1284 yeah but it's also a tournament that gives fame and prestige, even if only in the pokemon community (which is still huge). imagine doing something and you're so sure of winning (or know that you at least have a chance of winning), but your opponent uses your strategy against you and slowly beats down your team while you're forced to watch and not being able to do anything about it. sounds pretty depressing, if you ask me
@@espenmauseth1284 Nobody cares what third world shitholes are doing, bro. Bug off with that nonsense and let us have fun with our first world problems. Because we ourselves live in the first world.
Yeah. Also GOD colosseum was so good they need to remake it or make another. Because Genius Sonority still works with pokemon. They can do it. The cowards need to give us shadow pokemon that are from newer gens.
It is, issue is since trick room is being cancelled out, the guy that set off the trap still has faster mons, so they were able to defeat every Pokémon that came in before the opponent had the chance to kill their own indeedee
It's the type of strategy where if you're not the first to use it you're gonna be real disappointed in yourself because of how obvious it was in hindsight
Came across a strat like that on Showdown once: Imprison/Transform Mew. Imprison to lock your opponent out of any move your share with your opponent, and Transform to *make sure* you share all 4 moves with your opponent.
Now this is real Pokemon battling. Not just throwing every legendary capable of mega evolving/primal reversing on a team because they’re mathematically the best Pokemon in the games.
@@MouldMadeMind you can and it’s even easier since you don’t even need the first part just switch into something you can stall out and set up +6 and sweep
cause we needed more reasons lol, those abilities are 100% broken, was even more so when everything was running toxic.... calm mind, sub, protect, toxic, leftovers Goth was the an absolute bane against special attackers especially, luckily steel/poison types countered it well, and if you could toxic it yourself first it was basically a wasted team slot at that point.
@@xS3T0x Glimmora would then prolly be Gothitelle's worst nightmare in any team; that Pokémon single-handedly made toxic spikes ‘present’ in the doubles format, and most Gothitelle are likely running leftovers instead of lum berries. @@veenadayma6514 for this specific Goth 100% yeah it would be a great counter, I hate Glim so much though, when I run Glimmora I run a hardworking, honest, Offensive, spikeless, corrosion Glim just cause I don't want to feel scummy, still a really good mon actually.
One time i had only a Choice Band Haxorus with Earthquake and a Meowscarada left and i was again a Armarouge and a Talonflame that was immune to Earthquake so i used skill swap with my Meowscarada to the Talonflame to give him Protean he used Will-o-Wisp to burn my Meowscarada so he became pure fire type and i was able to won the match cauz Armarouge used calm mind for no reason
Shadow tag is banned in 6v6 singles because switching is so much more central to the gameplay. In 3v3 singles and 4v4 doubles switching is still powerful, but to a lesser degree. That's why entry hazards are also less relevant in those formats. That being said, I prefer the game when it evolves naturally rather than having bans, there are so many interesting Flutter Mane sets now in VGC because it never got banned there.
@@alexanderbatterbee8369 And it's great the way it is. We got to see Flutter Mane sets evolve from max speed special sash or booster tera fairy (braindead set), to bulky specs hp special (beats mirrors), back to booster speed (breaks speed tie to chien pao), then to hp defence (checks chien pao and booster Flutters), and now we are getting tera grass (Palafin check) and more trick room Flutters running around (soft trick room teams). When strong and flexible mons are allowed, people can be more creative with them.
@@wavestrider2160 its not about pulling it off every game lol, next game they play that indeede play is off the table lol, putting his opponent in an unconfortable position.
@@wavestrider2160 Pulling this off in a Bo3 effectively limits the opponent's drafting options. Showing this hand to all of your competitors already messes with their head in a pre-game situation before the game even starts, which already nets you a positional advantage. Markus Stadter isn't stupid like what your ignorant statement implies. He's the other mastermind behind Wolfe's winning team in VGC 2016 and could've potentially won that title as well, only losing to the mirror match with Wolfe himself.
@@Revoltine Im sorry, i didn't mean to be ignorant, what i mean is strategies like this would be less succesful in a best of 3 scenarios, yeah it means the opponent's team selection will be affected to counter this possible strategy, but best of 3 gives you a chance to change up your playstyle in some ways instead of losing straight away like it does in best of one. Even then, losing against these kinds of team in best of 3 feels significantly better because it meant you legitimately got outplayed in any way you try, as opposed to losing against it once.
@@daphenomenalz4100 And honestly the common man should love shadow tag. It's strongest against stall and Dozo archetypes imo. Two things it seems the general community loathes
