The tourist lady in Kremlin tried to get the guard hand in hand to take photos. The guard pushed her away as gently as he could. Some tourist just do not know how to behave.
"Eye contact" of Russian guard is tradition in Russian army, when Soldiers with Banner of your Regiment or Commander, Minister of Defence etc marching in front of ranks during parades, oath taking or some other important days, you following him with your head and focusing eyes on it. We did it when we were taking oath in the army
I think letting people get too close or too comfortable to the guards is a sign of disrespect, and may embolden people to breach the security……. I see the US and Russian guards do best in that regard.
Really? Looting and raping people just because your army sucked ass? Russians are "paid", so they are "professional", but they don't act like it when they're supposed to, even in really harmful and completely unnecessary ways.
Some people may find this interesting. Each pair of guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow are chosen by physical similarity: the height, body proportions, face features. The Presidential Guard Regimen, while hiring young men for their ranks, give the preference to identical twins.
I once put my camera bag on the memorial wall in Moscow, it was freezing and the ground was all covered in salt to make the ice melt. In my defence, it was the low part, not the parts where the city names are written. Guard politely asked me to remove it from there, not what you would expect from their stern faces and postures.
There is a youtube video where a Russian Kremlin guard broke the protocol and assisted one old lady to come closer to the tomb, lay flowers and kneel in respect of figthers and victims of WWII and Great Patriotic War.
I saw once how a tourist from some Asian country got in the way of the guard of honor. The officer pushed her aside as gently as possible, he even stopped. We are trying to make sure that the changing of the guard takes place without excesses. I remember back in the USSR, the police politely cleared the way for soldiers. When soldiers stand guard of honor, a special officer makes sure that no one approaches the soldiers. But every time he tries to do it as correctly as possible. Sometimes there are even such touching scenes. ru-vid.comSCA1eAHP-LQ
You asked, Which of these guards we'd most like to visit. For me, as a US Navy veteran I would pick the Sentinels for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier! Simply so I could stand in silence "behind the rail" and salute those amazing people!
As a tourist in one or two countries, I have observed these guys doing their job. But every time there is a disruption, it's always narcissi young women seeking attention. There really is something mentally ill with a lot of them.
Do you realize the Royal Guard UK are active soldiers, many having done tours in wartorn countries. How dare you call them a tourist attraction. They get treated very badly when on duty but they are doing their job. If any of them see this, thank you for your service. Your horses aswell.
Unlike the queen's/king's guard or the tomb guard, which defend national ornaments and are essentially honorary positions and tourist attractions, the kremlin guard are the guards of the home of the president and overall seat of government of a nation currently involved in a large war on its border. No wonder you wouldn't want to fuck with them, in the same way you wouldn't want to fuck with the bodyguards of the president, the congress or nuclear silos. Still its an absurd custom to allow, and even encourage, people to mess with any members of the military, even ceremonial guards.
I’ve seen Moscow, London and Sweden and I must say Moscow is very impressive both at the Kremlin wall and those at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and when they walk towards the tomb they pass the names of the cities of the great battles during WWII, that the Red Army fought one get chills. Sweden ….. bland. London is okey, eye catching uniforms
Tourists, im starting to lose faith in them. I know martial arts, and id think twice about" playing"with a russian guard. As much as i admire the queens guards, those russian guards look like they can do some serious damage.
Ruzzian guards have an advantage….the government will put you in jail automatically if you don’t comply with their rules! Who in their right mind will want to mess with them and land up in a ruzzian jail….which is absolute hell!!!
In fact, Russian guards can use force (including bayonet attack) if you try to enter a protected area, and they are trained to do so before going on guard duty. Unfortunately I couldn't find a video of their training session, but I'll attach a video of their performance in Basel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0AZTSp-5BQA.htmlsi=ktGGy9SnewooxxM7
Trained with an Airborne unit from GB in the mid 80s. Jumped three times with them. Some of the most badass soldiers I've had the honor of serving with.
During the Utøya and Oslo terrorist attacks in 2011 it became known to the the Kings Guard in Oslo, that the terrorist was wearing what appeard to be a police uniform. They feared that this might be just one of several attacks, so when a police officer approached the royal castle just to make sure everything was ok,they promptly disarmed him and put him into custody just to make sure he was not another terrorist in disguise.
I learned there is a tomb of unknown soldier in the US. Something I thought originated in Russian/Soviet history. Truly, people should respect the ones who fought and died for them to live.
Last week an US Army Major General spent his last duty hour in the army, guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns. He started his army career as a private, became a tomb guard as a sergeant, and felt so proud of having the Honor Guard Badge that he walked his last hour on active duty as a tomb guard. MG William Zana.
I proud USA they have tomb of unknown soldier like in USSR , people have memory about people who died for living other people . We not so different ... But yes we have different politics , so we need change our politicans and live happy .
Russian guards will always look upon you from above, even if you are head of the state😂😅 Maybe Biden should have some of them to not, at least, shaming himself and others.
@@nothingbutthisthatandtheother , have mercy, they won't be able to place every captured NATO vehicle on every corner of every street. That's just not enough space for all trophies if they will fight even better, lol.
It's been at least 60 years for the Honor, or Old Guards, in the US. My brother was one, standing at the temporary grave of President Kennedy. I believe it was 1963, right after his assassination. I recall him coming to my Christmas program that year, and him swinging me up in his strong arms, when we walked home, as I hugged his head, and he held my bare legs.
2:08 I know the guards have a job to do guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier...... But seriously did they not know and understand the words "REST IN PEACE" means that soldier bless his soul must have been in battle or fought in a war (It's possible) so do they think he doesn't want peace and quiet as he is laid to rest. Both the soldiers guarding the tomb and the visiting public/tourists should also respect the boundaries and not cross the lines or chains, respect 💯 always 💂🏾+👱🏾♀️🧔🏾🧑🏾🎓👪
I am Norwegian and have two friends who worked in the royal guards, it's apparently insanely boring, they have a small house right outside the royal palace where they chill when not outside and my friends said they took turns on a Playstation there to pass time 😅
Don't you dare think that these guards are a tourist attraction! To think something like this would mean you're a mental case. Treat them with respect, and keep your distance.
What are you military accomplishments? No, playing Call of Duty doesn't count! Whether you realize it or not, The Soviet Union killed about two-thirds of the Nazi military!@@ekspatriat
It seems like the Russian guards are respected by their people who let them do their duty. If they don’t even have to yell the people they work around must have a genuine admiration and respect for them,
The Norwegian ones had the coolest show. It would be good to see Chinese and French guards. The Swedish one seemed the most gentle with the kid, like the grand-pa type pump soldier thought the kid was cute. It was a nice moment. The Kremlin guards in real life were cool - I saw them in the 2000's and they didn't have the Napoleonic-style uniforms but rather were wearing modern uniforms and it was a nice theme at Lenin's tomb and the eternal fire for fallen soldiers.
Sentinels are enlisted infantrymen and women. This is not their MOS. They go to war also. And they don’t do months of training. There is a lot wrong with some of the information about these different guard duties. I recommend to anyone watching to go look it up yourself.
I served in the Welsh guards and trust me they are no elite. There is no selection process to join the foot guards only basic training. To gain elite status a unit select soldiers by a special selection process that other British army units including the guards don’t do. During my time in the Welsh Guards, many were unfit and despite failing courses were nevertheless promoted, although there were a few good soldiers but these will mostly transfers to elite units themselves in time. The ceremonial duties are indeed boring and in most hated. I ended up transferring to the parachute regiment in order to do some real soldering and served with them for 18 years. By transferring to the paras, I saw how poor the soldering standards of the guards really was. However, I believe they have improved professionally somewhat due to service in Iraq and Afghanistan, but I also believe there is a drug problem prevailing and if caught no longer discharged because they need the men. If you ever watch the changing of the guard you will see several who are obese and overweight. In reality it is the civilian police who actually carry’s out the real security for the royals. The guards are only there for the benefit of tourists and back up to the police if needed.
Didn't know that.I assume the Scots and Welsh would take things seriously. My late father during WW2 when in North Africa, severed as an honor guard to King George of Greece and Field Marshall Montgomery and a few others.Only found this out after he died.Found a little journal he had and this was in it, along with other things like were he did boot camp and some other stuff.Wish I had found it when he was alive, I could have asked him questions.
@@hildahilpert5018 My view is solely based on my 4 years in the Guards. During the 2 WW, the guards would have been very disciplined and experienced soldiers due to the war. The Guards participated in several of the battles including the Arnhem in September 1944, where the ground element of the reliving forces were spearheaded by the Grenadier Guards. In the movie Michel Caine portrayed guards general in charge of the ground push towards Arnhem.
Don't let the toy soldier posture fool you. These are cultural Guardians. A military tradition that dates back to the Palatins of the ancient Mediterranean economic world (thalassocracy).
I do not get how the heck King's guard of Norway has some fun. I thought comfy prison cells were crazy enough. Still respect is everything with these guards.
Some of the top private security are trained by militaries or even special forces. If you are a celebrity or a multi billionaire you can even hire them to protect, you, your property, business or family. Some security guards are highly trained un unarmed combat and anti terror techniques. It's not just statesmen and royalty who have elite protection , you probably don't want to mess with those who protect wealthy citizens, also people underestimate the police. Some policemen are highly trained in anti terror and unarmed combat too, you never know, there are a lot of former military in the police anyway!
