This is my Dad. He is definately in a concrete reinforced vault. He traveled to every state by Hawaii. He went to Europe and Australia. He made his living as an otr trucker. I traveled 1000s of miles on that bike with Dad. I always kept it clean and polished. He is the one who painted that bike. He could do just about anything. I am the one who said why don’t you just be buried on it. He was buried the way he lived, his way. I love my Dad and we were honored to give him the burial he wanted. The Vernon Family Funeral Home did a wonderful job helping us ensure his last wish was granted. I miss my Dad.

This is my grandfathers grave. It's in Mutual Ohio between Urbana and Mechanicsburg. My Mom came up with the stupid idea. I personally was the one who got inside the grave and set it in place and disconnected it. We used a concrete septic tank both bottom sides. It's definitely not collapsed. I watch you all the time. I promise you it's sealed. I wish I knew you were coming. If you're back in Ohio I will do an interview with you.

I've bought and still have a 78 CJ Jeep I bought new. It's been special to me through all of life's joys and trail for these 44+ years. I'd shed the top and take a little ride to literally "air out my head". My nieces and nephews have commented to their mothers (my sisters) wondering whos gonna get Uncle Jimmy's Jeep when he dies. I'm 68 and as healthy as a 48 year old man. No plan on checking out soon. This is food for thought.

Another amazing video Lamont as always. His plexi-glass and plywood casket was lowered in to a special made cement vault that would accommodate the size of his casket. The casket was painted green like the fields of grass. The floor of the inside was painted black with a white line down the center to represent the road that he was traveling.

We've broken down, run out of gas, been lost and even hit a deer but most importantly, we've fallen in love on it. It makes perfect sense to me that she would be buried behind him and he's facing away from her because that's how it would be if they went for a ride together. No it’s really ridiculous. This is what happens when idolatry is what they believe in rules their lives,even in death it is immortalized. I wonder what this man was thinking,like he is going to continue on after death riding off into heaven on two wheels,more like hell,if even that was true,but it’s not, does he even believe in the resurrection which I highly doubt because if he did he would be thinking Jesus going to raise me up on the last day and last thing I wanna do is be on something of an idol.

I lost my baby girl, as you can imagine, I was at the cemetery daily, often morning and night. One morning I found her spot had sunken, in the foot area of the grave. Of course, I panicked and started crying and worrying about my baby, so I went over to the office and stood there in tears until someone came to open the office. They sat me down and explained to me that my baby was fine, she was inside of her casket, which is entombed in a concrete vault meant to protect both her and the environment, this was 30 years ago. They said they would get the staff to fix it and when I went back that night, it was as if nothing had happened. So I'll assume something similar happened for Bill and his bike. May he and his wife enjoy that Harley in heaven 🙏🏼🕊️💕🕊️🙏🏼

And I bet you still think about her just like it was yesterday. A mother never "gets over" losing a child. I love how people come up with all those dumb things to say when you are standing there feeling like you are going to collapse from the weight of that loss. I lost my husband a few months ago. I can't remember very much of what people said after his service. It all sounded like Charlie Brown's school teacher. "Wah wah wah"! I especially hated having to hear someone say "he is in a better place"! NO. A better place would be here with me right now!!!

I read an article that stated the health department made them place the “casket” in a cement septic tank that completely enclosed it and they did drain all the fluids from the bike. That is probably their answer to keep the grave from collapsing and keeping grave robbers out.

Most cemeteries require steel or cement vaults since any casket will crumble after years of being underground. A septic tank was probably the right size for the situation.

I read online that his two sons re-inforced the burial plot, with concrete and steel, prior to the interment, itself. As for being buried facing east, some cemeteries also bury couples, with the husband to the right of their wife. Very unique story. Wonderful to see that his family helped him to make sure that his wishes were honored, down to the very last detail. 18 years in the planning, but with a legacy that will endure for far longer than that.

** LAMONT Read this: His "casket" would have to be in a cement vault like any other casket, so it will not collapse, which is why the vault is placed, as even a wooden casket would eventually rot and cause a cave in. I just actually looked up the information, the casket was built by his sons, who reinforced the bottom with metal and wood. Since a normal vault would not work, they used a cement septic tank instead, thus the ground will not collapse. Very cool video, thank you for doing it!

I always love it when videos about Uncle Bill come across on youtube or facebook. He was actually my great uncle. My grandad, Leonard Standley, was his brother. Leonard and Norma-jean Standley should be buried quite close to them, as well as my great grandma and grandad, Oren and Florence Roberts. (They were my grandma's parents) But i always find it so fun to see these videos, as I get to tell people, "Hey! That's my family!!!" (As crazy as it is.) Uncle Bill wasn't ever around much (of course, i was only at my grandma's every sunday, and he rarely came on a sunday). Saying he died of lung cancer, is most likely correct too. He use to smoke cigars every now and then, and he must have had emphazema at some point, cuz he had a super raspy voice. Sadly, i wasn't able to make it to the funeral, as I had moved to the netherlands in 2013. I was dyin to be there though. My mom said alot of people were laughing at his funeral. (I can imagine why) My grandad (leonard) died before Uncle Bill. But yeah... if you wanted a bit of back story, there you go. Also, some misc. Info, he had a horse named charlie, which stayed at my grandma and grandad's (whom i fell off of). And lastly, the name of that little town between urbana and mechanicsburg is called Mutual. It falls under Urbana though officially.

A great story Lamont. I know a man who digs graves for a living. We live near Pittsburgh, PA, where there are many underground springs. When they dug for our house to be built, we could see little trickles of water coming out of the side of the hill. So many of them!!This grave digger told me that he has exhumed hundreds of bodies in concrete vaults with the casket in the vault. He said every single one he has exhumed had about 4’ of water in the hole. After opening the vault (for an autopsy or to be relocated somewhere else), the vault & coffin was TOTALLY in 4-5 feet of water. It even got through a CONCRETE VAULT into the coffin!! I was shocked to hear that. He said it was the most sickening thing to do, he threw up many times over this. He quit the job after a few years cause it was SO horrible to see every single day…. I can’t even envision what he saw. He said he has NEVER dug up a dry grave in his life. After hearing all this from him, my parents died 7 mos. apart from each other. They refused to be buried in the ground..so they bought places in the Mausoleum. My hubby & I bought one interment very close to them that will fit he & I both in the wall. This isn’t a great thing either, I know, but I REFUSE to be cremated. My kids just love the idea of being incinerated…however..I don’t. TY for listening!! 😇🙏

In Pa, you can have a “green” burial. It’s in a separate and designated area away from the rest of the graves with the vaults. You bury the body as is - no embalming, no cremains, no vaults. If there is a casket, it’s something that’s biodegradable with no chemicals like glues. Many just have a burial shroud, a cloth that the body is wrapped in, then lowered into the ground.

He’s probably in a specially created vault to contain the plexiglass coffin. And the “East bound and down…” are lyrics from Jerry Reed’s “Smokey and the Bandit” theme song.

Found this: He started by buying three extra burial plots at the Fairview Cemetery in Mutual, next to his wife, Lorna. The land was big enough for the 9-by-11-foot cement septic tank able to accommodate his bike. His sons, Pete and Roy, fashioned the casket out of Plexiglas, reinforcing the bottom with wood and steel rods to handle the extra weight. For five years, it sat in Standley’s garage and “if you stopped by his house, he showed you his casket,” Roy Standley said. “He was proud of it,” he added.

As a funeral director, I'm pretty sure that the funeral home was able to get with a vault company to have them create a special vault to encase the housing he was in. We'll typically have either the grave digger open the grave and then either they or the grave digger will set the vault. After services are over and the casket is lowered into it then the top will be placed over it and the grave closed. With as much forethought as Bill put into this, I'm sure he worked hand in hand with his funeral home, the vault company, grave digger, and the cemetery.
@yowyo2006

There was likely a custom vault in the ground with a lid off to the side somewhere to prevent the ground from sinking. Most cemeteries require them anymore.

Cemeteries usually have their own system of reinforcing the actual hole dug in the ground, with the bottom, sides and top usually having like a cement box that surrounds the "coffin" which is supposed to stabilize the entire area.
@Bonzi_Buddy
@Bonzi_Buddy 2 года назад
That is called a burial vault and it is not required in many places and cemeteries. As far as something bigger, something would have to be custom made. It is possible it was done so, or concrete reinforcement could be made... you could pour a few posts, back fill around the posts to level with the box and then pour some concrete over some reinforcement where the pressure is spread out. Then you top that off with dirt. It is possible they did that...it would not be difficult.

Researched burials. Water tables are present in cemeteries. When they exhumed The Big Bopper's (died with Buddy Holly/Richie Valens) body, his cement vault was full of water, but his casket held the water out. So, plexi glass, we likely will never know, but I'd never stand over any grave, cause U might fall in. Great story

I believe since you said their wasn't any soft spots that it's still intact, but since you said their is no reinforcement on the plexiglass and with melting snow and rain adding to the weight of the dirt, I believe your right that someday it will cave in.R.I.P Mr Easy Rider,we will all be on our way somewhere too someday....

If no one has yet mentioned,“East Bound and Down” is a song by Jerry Reed. It’s played in the “Smokey & the Bandit” movie(s).
