He Was Nearly Dead

dont you guys love when you finally see those little tails wagging after they realize those humans are there to help and not harm like other bad humans ...you guys are awesome! always making me cry hahah

You could see in Jack's eyes, that he was ready to die.. But Matt, you made him believe in people again. He was only a fighter because you believed in him, and he definitely is showing you gratitude. Thank you so much Matt for what you do, not just for Jack, but for all the animals you take care of.

I was a vet tech for a long time. Let me tell you... when you get a dog like this, who is just READY to die, and you start working on him... The first time you go into his cage and you get that first little tail wag, (3:50) when he has no earthly reason to to be wagging his tail. When he shows you that you have given him with more kindness love and compassion then he has known in a long time... It doesn't matter if this first one of these cases, or the 50th... it is one of those moments in your life that you KNOW you've made a difference. There is no "glory" no applause, no likes, and most often there is nobody else there to share that moment between you and the dog, but it is one of those moments that you will most cherish in your life.

When you encounter a dog like this, how do you recommend feeding? I once rescued an old bloodhound that was nothing but skin and bones. I found him wandering in traffic in freezing sleet and rain. I don't know how he kept from getting hit. He was shaking uncontrollably when I brought him home. He ate, then laid on a soft bed I made for him. I covered him to hold the heat in and he slept nearly 24 hours He was so still and not moving at all. I feared he was dying. I kept checking to see if he was still breathing. He was so hungry that I started him on some good dry food and fried eggs and whole milk for over a week. I thought that eggs would be a quick and easy to digest protein. My old boy gained 14 lbs in little over a month. and was beautiful, looking like a show dog! He eventually died a happy, goofy dog. I wish he were still with me. I'll always remember taking him to the park where he would chase the squirrels into the trees. I still love you, Jimmy. Thank you for loving me old boy!

when he said "its about 2 inches" I thought it was his neck and when i noticed it was his belly i was like oh wow

This level of abuse is so sickening to see, but then it's so heartwarming to watch you fix this poor doggy. I really like how some countries like France have made animal cruelty charges much more serious, so if you harm an animal it's the legal equivalent of harming a human. We need more laws like that in this world to help prevent cruelty like this.

The first brown dog. I have to admit amazed me. He looked half way out when he arrived. Unbelievably amazing how energetic he looks.

Cases like THIS are why I want to get into veterinary medicine. I was just hired as a vet receptionist, but my ultimate goal is to become a vet tech and possibly even a veterinarian. SOOOO glad that you were able to see Jack and I was elated to see how he turned into a happy, healthy pup!

It hurts my heart to see these poor neglected animals just completely resolute in their own demise. Seeing Jack wag his tail was such a wonderful moment and seeing him being a normal, happy puppy is the best.

I had a black lab named Blue and we bought him from this cowboy..after we bought him we realized how sick he was and he had a disease called Parvo after we spent so much money on curing him we couldn’t afford to take care of him sadly but we gave him to an amazing home and we still get pictures

I love seeing the transformation of dogs with mange. They go from looking and feeling awful to beautiful body and spirit. It's neat seeing what they really look like and what their true personality is. Not that I would ever wish mange on a dog, don't get me wrong. It's so sad. It just makes me happy to see them get the help they need.

Watching Dr Matt save Jack was like watching a miracle.
