So cool seeing Chris get to live out this experience. I’ve been watching TW reviews since they started up really. Video content probably started up in 2007 I’d say. Loyal member of the TW forums as well. Chris always seemed to connect with HEAD racquets on a deeper level. Any of us who love a brand for many years know, it’s more of a cultural loyalty than performance based. I see Wilson logos and it makes me smile. Probably a similar feeling for Chris. Congrats on getting to do this trip Chris, was so cool seeing you interact with all these great people. If anything, I think the video could have been much longer!

The way Team HEAD is passionate about producing one of the best racquets in the world, at the same time Team TW is equally passionate about bringing the best content to the tennis fans across the world. Thanks and keep it up you both 👍👍

Damn. This Brandography series is so delightful to watch, it just takes you to a soulful side of Tennis. This and the Yonex video are incredibly well made ans these should be considered a piece of art and the view count doesn't even make justice to these. Well done.

Hi TW. The 360+ Speed MP is my racket of choice. I string it with the Lynx Tour at 53 pounds and i love it so much. By the way. I had ordered 4 rackets on your european online store. 3 of them had the same specs. Wow, so i kept these 3. Because of that Brandography-Campaign, you put some Speed Merch in the box, too. A big shout out to Head and especially TW. Cheers.

TW: Beautifully produced and it makes me want to hit the courts. Question: On the new Extreme line, it seems that there is an Extreme Pro model; how come TW is currently not carrying it? Perhaps a change of direction similar to the Gravity Tour?

I think head is headed(pun) in a better direction with 360+ and lowering the stiffness in their frames. I have not even looked at a head frame since they messed up the feel after Microgel, as Youtek and Graphene were a not great.

They have some babolat rackets in the shelves as well. I'm assuming they collect competitor's rackets and do a lot of reverse engineering and testing as well.

This video shows racket production in Kennelbach. Suggesting they still produce rackets there. Other sources say that all production has been moved to China. My 2012 Youtek Prestige rackets already say 'Made in China'. So which is it? Does HEAD still make (some) rackets in Austria (and if so, which ones?) , or not? How old is this footage?

Head makes their prototype racquets in Austria but production racquets are made in China. Chris, TW

My first 'proper' racquet was a Head Magnum, heavy brute of a thing, most certainly not for a thin gangly 13yr old. Since then have tried most manufacturers but always have a soft spot for Head, always coming back from time to time, Graphite Master, original Radical, various Prestiges and now using a Gravity Pro. But for the last 4/5yrs, my 'go to' match racquet is a Yonex DR98. Sorry, but right now they're just a better company with better products.

and finally Head never respect their customers because there rackets specs are never the same between two sticks.

There is variance in specs for all brands of tennis racquets. We offer services to match frames, or find closest specs to what's listed on the frame. It is just the way the industry goes, mass production of frames. Troy, TW

While I can appreciate the production value, I don't understand the appeal of a longform commercial romanticizing a brand.

Head is no longer a trusted tennis brand, you're wrong. What they did to us Prestige users is disgusting and unforgettable. I first started using the Prestige back in 1990 when I bought as a 16 year old the Prestige Pro 600. Ever since I've been using a Mid sized Prestige and up until this Saturday I was using the Youtek Mid version. I since was forced to not only change rackets, but brands all together. When someone uses a certain frame for so long, the racket becomes an extension of your arm and your game evolves around the racket because it's a precision and perfectionists' tool. Us Prestige users feel like we've been left in the gutter since the release of the Rev Pro version. Not only was it 30 grams lighter but it was a totally different frame and the new versions of the Prestige should not even be called Prestige. On top of all this, Head goes on and produces rackets made in Austria for the touring professionals and continues to sell off its unwanted pro stock all made in Austria to the highest bidder. This is insult to injury. What really ticked me off was the fact they made a racket for you Chris Edwards on the spot and gave it to you to go and try out. They only did this because you guys sell thousands of frames a year and promote the brand. Shame on you and Head. I am now using the Volkl C10 Pro.

Prestige Mids don't sell. That's why the killed it. That said, I do think Head took a huge mis-step turning everything into Graphene. I loved the way my Prestige Pro Graphene XT played but the feel was horrible. After about 3 years of using it I had serious problems in one of my arm tendons. I can only assume it was the Graphene construction as I never had any problems with other brand or even the pre-Grapehene Head racquets. As a consequence, I don't trust the Head brand anymore.
@CarlosEspino22
@CarlosEspino22 4 года назад
@@gavlatennis2824 In a way I agree with you but if a racket doesn't sell, then don't try to re-invent and throw it in people's faces and basically tell them to take it or leave. They could've kept on producing them with the Graphene tech. instead of what they brought out. The paint job on them is atrocious as I found when placing and then removing lead tape from the rackets. Sections of the black paint actually came off with lead tape. There should only be 1 Prestige (Mid) and it should be made in Austria. Head have shown total disregard and have been extremely disrespectful to us long time Prestige users. They just want money.

@@gavlatennis2824 I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, or defend a major corporate outfit like Head. But I'm genuinely curious as to why you "can only assume" it was the graphene construction that caused the problems. It seems to me like string selection and tension would likely play a significant role, as well. But more importantly... what I'm learning in my mid-40s is that I can no longer take for granted the impact that being three years older and having played tennis three years longer can have, once you are past your prime or peak competitive years. While I have little doubt about the possibility that graphene could be a worse option than other composites, it's likely also better than some others...as you are suggesting, time will ultimately tell. But I'm also a bit suspicious of anectodal accounts, for two reasons. First, without conducting rigorous comparisons by always switching and comparing racquets on a regular basis... while still playing with all those compared racquets over that same three year period, most of us aren't really capable of distinguishing how much the pain is being caused by a specific racquet versus other factors (string type, aging, consistency in personal conditioning, form using one racquet vs. another, etc). But secondly (although, perhaps more important) how could any designer/manufacturer know in advance what the long-term effects are of using any material repeatedly, until you've got data that reflects long-term use. And even if you could sufficiently tested something... with enough data from a sufficiently and reliably-size population... before you unleashed it on the mainstream market, you've stil got to be able to somehow isolate the long-term effects of graphene on the player from other contributing factors. If this were a trials for a medical drug, then a three year study makes sense. But in an industry like athletic equipment manufacturing it seems like that would require some pretty involved longitudinal studies that aren't really practical. Obviously the strengths and weaknesses of most composites are gonna make themselves pretty obvious with less than three years of use by the experienced players that these companies rely on for feedback. The things that work keep selling... those that work less go bye-bye. I assumed that's why Head keeps producing and selling the Ti.6 and Mirogels but dropped the Liquidmetal and Youtek rather quickly (or did they simply rebrand?). All that said, it would be interesting to see a longitudinal study comparing graphene racquets to other types of composites or materials. Are you aware of any of those studies being done? As someone in his mid-40s who wants to be able to keep playing for as long as I'm around, I would love to examine any studies if they existed. Mostly I try to pay attention to my body and make changes as I sense problems arising, as I assume you do... but I always find the scientific literature informative as well. I hope you have found alternatives to address your tendon issues, not being able to play would be miserable.

Carlos... I totally agree with your frustration of labeling something as a continuation of the Prestige label that doesn't in anyway resemble in specs or playing characteristics of the line it is supposed to succeed and advance. On one hand, I get a manufacturer/brand wanting to be able to market a product based on having built a trusted and reliable model that retains the characteristics that made it trusted to begin with. But to completely destroy trust in your long-established trusted Prestige line by giving me a product that doesn't resemble in anyway what I expect a Prestige to be... yup... trust destroyed. That's why I think it was wise in some ways to introduce the Gravity line as a separate and new line. But then to completely change the Prestige line and still label it such... it would be like a car manufacturer marketing something to you as a sports car only to discover it drives like a sedan. Sedan's are fine if that's what you're shopping for... but I wanted a sports car. Thanks Head, but if that's how you're gonna play it, I'll buy an actual sports car, elsewhere.
