At the time highest scoring game in Texas 5A State Championship history and overall greatest game. Delbert Garner 21, Odell James and the whole 93 Mac Arthur football team were incredible competitors.

In 10 years, Aldine ISD had 3 of the 4 schools make it to the state championship game 4 times. 1989: Aldine lost to Permian 1990: Aldine beat Arlington Lamar 1993: Mac lost to Lewisville 1999: IKE lost to Midland Lee 21-5A was the power district for the state, for sure. Aldine and Humble schools dominated, and you never knew who would win, week after week.
21-5A I played at Humble in 97 and there are 10 guys I played with or against that made it to the NFL just off the top of my head.... But no one, and I mean no one struck fear into any team more than Odell James. People don't realize what a special talent he was. #1 recruit in the nation, and as a junior had his team #2 in the nation. We won district in 96/97, and I still don't know how we beat out Aldine for the title. And they had D.D. Lewis as linebacker/running back.... Aldine lost to Drew Brees and Austin Westlake in the 5A D2 semis.... We lost to North Shore in round 1, which was terrible cause whoever won that game was coasting to 5A D1 semis to play Converse
Now the powerhouses here in the Houston area are North Shore, Atascocita, Summer Creek, Katy and C.E. King. Given the performance that the latter put on in the state quarterfinals, I'd say that they're sure to win a state championship within the next 5 years.
@@somethingsmart3975 I would call that a strange coincidence if nothing else but honestly, I don't see the Humble or Aldine area schools returning to prominence anytime soon. As for King, you should've seen how hard they fought Katy on the field during their last 2 encounters. I found that surprising, considering that the latter was fairly high in the national and state rankings.
I played at Nimitz and Ike People don’t know that district 21-5A Put out Donte Hall (Nimitz) David Boston (Humble) Quentin Griffin (Nimitz) Odell James was like Cam Newton in a way, dude was a legit 6’4” That was arguably the best conference in the state maybe the country. Coach Simon (Rip) used to say “ 21-5A is the best conference in the nation” At spring practice, there would be no less than 20 D1 colleges.
Humble 97.... played with Boston, Givens (Patriots), Sammy Davis Jr, and played against Dante, Q, DD Lewis of Aldine (Seahawks/Texas LB) We beat out Aldine for the district title but lost to Andrew Gurode and Correy Redding with North Shore People have no clue the level of competition we had to play week in and week out Kingwood was the punching bag of the district lol... everyone hated them
