@@kiwia8271 You don't know what anybody was doing! And he wasn't talking about their personal life! TV, HE SAID, TV! BACK IN THE DAY THEY HAD RESPECT, CLASS. TODAY WHAT A F****** JOKE!
They were trying to be funny and using their acting skills and brilliant writing to the maximum. Today’s television shows are all about pushing propaganda for the corporate state
Bang zoom to the moon Alice ,there were so many phrases all priceless,I’m 64 years young and still laugh my but off every time I see this sitcom,it’s Golden and will last forever thanks for the memories 💙👍👍👍👍👍👍
Gleason would later say it never mattered who played Alice and Trixie, only he and Art Carney made the show, but I disagree. Audrey made an enormous contribution to the way the show worked. Joyce, the only surviving cast member- she's approaching 100- never got much of a chance.
@@akrenwinkle Pert Kelton was the original Alice. Those episodes seem more abrasive than the Meadows ones. Gleason dumped AM and JR for Sheila MacRae and Jane Kean in the 60s.
I have seen these episodes so many times that I know them all word for word, but I keep watching them over and over . Never get tired of them! There are no good shows like these at all on tv, none at!!!!
just sleep better when i hear that opening, what a classic the GREAT ONE WAS, & every sitcom in US & World history use story lines & premise from these just 38 episodes, TRULY THE GREAT ONE!
One of the few good things about our massively abused social media and the web is being able to find things like this. Life was a laugh no matter the tough times. As a kid i watched it every week on a Hallicrafters black and white tv. Gleason, as were many back then one of a kind. An era that I really miss. I never pass up any reruns. You guessed it...I am one of the Silent Generation. :-)
Albert Haulk I worked on the AT&T rose parade float for New Year’s Day 1999 called the Golden Age of Television and it had the characters of Ralph (bulging eyes) and Norton (surprised look) and Alice (mad look)
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT 😀😀🌜🌝🌛🌌🌕BY FARRRR THE MOST HILARIOUS. SHOW OF ALL TIME..THE ONLY CLOSE 2nds in my humble opinion are All in the Family and Sanford & Son.But I've been in 💕LOVE w the Honetmymooners since age 6 in 1970 ! Our Mom used to ..when we were 8 let me & my twin SIS ( the oldest of 4 kids) stay uo and watch 🌙 it w her sometimes.OH we were in our glory!! We already ..even at age 8 knew it was hysterically funny and already knew what a GREAT COZY feeling it gave us.WE both Stil watch it to this day every Sunday night on me TV& anywhere else it pops up.Ive had a Huge DVD set my brother gave me for XMAS along w an I💕LUCY SET( sorry I DID mistakenly leave out THIS very close TIED for 2nd PHENOMONon)! I just popped an EP on my phone WATCHIN in bed BERY COZILY n hot VERY lucky by picking 1 of my VERY fave esp Ralph n Norton assuming they're drunk tho Alice switched Grape juice into wine btl Ralph drinking it:.."A LITTLE STRONG ..BUT GOOOOD !"".Theyre all great but Jackie Gleasons EXTREME comic talent from his timing to mannerisms(!!) Are unbelievably hLarious EVERY X W out fail..YOUVE GOT GOOD TASTE !🌝🌜🌕🌃🌛🌜🌃🌕🌃⭐🌕🌃✨🌛🌙🌠🌃🌕🌃
Shows like this are timeless. I'd wager a 100 years from now they will still be watched. This along with shows like The Andy Griffith Show, The 3 Stooges, Laurel and Hardy. All of the actors in these shows had something most actors don't have today. If I remember right it's called TALENT !!!
Well, don't you see it in "Two Broke Girls"????? didn't think so. we have some real crap on these days purporting to be comedy or even entertainment. ho hum.
I'd add "I Love Lucy" to that list. Not sure what Andy Griffith is doing up there--it may have been entertaining for the time, but I don't see it holding up like the others you mention.
Oh no way no one could handle these types of shows today everyone is so damn Sensitive about race and Politics This show and especially all in the family would never last! You say one thing and they label you a Democrat! I said I had a metro card on Facebook it’s a metro card I got from Medicaid right away I’m a democrat wtf 🤦♀️
Oh my God. Such funny stuff. This show is the most priceless slice of life in mid 50's NYC ever made. I never tire of watching it. 'King of the castle' Ha Ha! Norton warning Ralph about his comment in the paper, then rushing in with the article to show Alice! Thanks pal!
Tell that to Seinfeld. Larry and him think they are the best sitcom. When clearly Jason Alexander copied so much of this Ralph Character. Don't get me wrong, I liked Seinfeld. But this is splendid.
This show sure brings back good memories. An old small broken down black & white T.V. at the foot of of my bed. I grew-up with my grandparents, and my grandfather ALWAYS referred to my grandmother as the 'boss'; "the boss is whistling 'Dixie' he'd always say when dinner was ready. These people were poor but they were happy. It seems people today can't manage 'happiness' irregardless of how 'non'-poor they are. There's more than laughter to be gleaned from the 'Honeymooners' I think.
Jackie Gleason himself said if something is really funny you can watch it over and over and laugh every time. Thank heavens he had the show shot on film so we can enjoy the show with a clear picture today. He definately was forward thinking.
It musta been nice to watch television back in the 50's when shows were done live without a stupid laugh track . This show was a gem and never fails to make me laugh at a blue collar characters instead of rich yuppies living in a nice apartment in NY while Ralph and gang live in a little apt. just making it .
Yes, it was recorded live in New York City in front of a live audience. One time as I remember and on RU-vid is the one at Christmas time when at the end of the show Jackie Gleason breaks character and the entire cast walk up to the front and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holiday.
Live television then with no re dos, no make overs, what you did is what was broadcast out into the world. Great actors that knew their art and just put it all out there. RIP all you guys, and thanks for the laughs after all these years. Quality comedy is timeless.....
can you believe you can be funny without profanities and making sexual references so much you get sick of all the trash slinging? can't be funny..no F word.....no.
All of them were. Classic great lines: Ralph: "Men have done it all. Men are responsible for the condition the world is in today." Alice: Well, I am happy to hear one of you admit it."
I remember going with my dad to buy our 2nd TV on Saturday afternoon in 1953. That evening our 7-member family watched the live Jackie Gleason Show, with The June Taylor Dancers and the Jackie Gleason Orchestra, under the baton of Ray Block! After Gleason's enthusiastic introduction he always said, "AND AWAAAY WE GO", while sashaying stage right. The Honeymooners was a major and quite popular segment of this variety show.
True story. Back in the 1960s on the Ed Sullivan Show on WCBS TV ch.2 , Ed Sullivan announced that the next Sunday he will have the 3 Stooges on the show. Ad soon as he said that I ran to the kitchen and told my late mother.... Mom, mom. Guess what? The 3 Stooges will be on ! Let's watch it and see what time the Ed Sullivan Show comes on. We rarely missed it in those days. For me they were wildly comical and were my heroes.
I started watching this in 1991. It was on channel 11 NYC if I'm not mistaking. I did watch it while residing in NJ. I started watching because my oldest brother will put it on. I was such a fan of this that I even bought a t-shirt and watch all the new year's marathon. Now thanks to the uploads in RU-vid I can still watch it from time to time.
Surfmus me too every night at 11:30 on WPIX I watched it so many times and it never got old at all. Looking at it now reminds me of those days I lived in Manhattan at that time
@@joshuatift4640 yep, same here for me. Watched it in the late 80s and early 90s on Channel 11 WPIX New York. I remember when they did the marathon for 24 hours on every New year's Day.
Jackie Gleason was brilliant! Actually this entire cast were ”The Greatest”. I remember watching this episode many, many years ago. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
The actor playing the reporter is Frank Marth. He played multiple roles in the classic 39 episodes. His brother lived next door to us when I was a kid and Frank would visit once in a while during summer.
I thought this show was hilarious as a child when I saw reruns of it during the late 1960's.During 1965 era I watched the new TV show of Jackie Gleason. It was a one hour variety show every Saturday evening.I was just in kindergarten back then!!
I like to watch, The Honey Mooners, because reminds me of my late brother Johnny. He used to watched this show and got me watching it. And ended up liking it. I miss my brother. MY he rest in peace. Watching it 5/31/20.
