Great review as always! I have a node 2i, it still sounds good and I like that it’s not in my face visually and just does it’s thing - the functionality is great… I see the node x as a potential upgrade in the future. For me I don’t see the benefit of the fancy screens on other streamers, I use my phone to control the streamer sitting down enjoying the music so colour screens seem like an unnecessary add on. I’d rather that expense be reinvested in a better sounding streamer 👌 this is what I think Bluesound focuses on
I had a Node 2021 and really didn't like it at all. I thought it was bettered by the ifi Zen blue Bluetooth receiver and then much bettered by the Zen one signature. I thought the blusound had no life to the sound but I suppose for many this is the whole point of a good DAC: adding nothing not taking anything away from the sound of your system
I purchased an Eversolo DMP A6, I do not use the internal DAC, instead, I connect it to my Hugo TT2/m-scaler via the USB, which sounds absolutely stunning! I have a Michi X3 and B&W 804 D4s for the front end.
I am curious about the Michi X3, how would you rate it's internal DAC, which I believe is AKM 4499, same DAC used in the new DMP-A8? Some reviewers say it's equal to a £1500 DAC others a £400 DAC. Big difference!
@@elthamlad468 I use Chord DACs, currently the Hugo TT2 and M-Scaler combo, which is on a different level to the in-built DACs that we see in modern hi-end amplifiers, but to answer your question , to compare the AKM 4499 and the Sabre ESS 9038PRO, (I had a Topping D90LE) both at the top of their respective trees, I would say that the AKM4499 is more forward in the mid range, with some degree of warmth, lacking a little detail at the top end, whereas the ESS9038PRO is more detailed, but lacks the warmth, with a slightly wider sound stage. For £1500 I would suggest the Chord Qutest, it sits some where between these two DACs, but has a much wider sound stage, 2 to 3x the depth and it is more revealing. I hope this helps 😀. PS. the Michi is a Peach, it is so revealing, muscular and the depth is something to behold, it is for me, perfect !!
I've got the node 2i with an external LPS, feeding the digital signal to a Gustard R26 DAC, using Qobuz. The app is easy and works well. The sound is great. I keep the node and the DAC in my cabinet, hidden from sight and control it via an iPad on the couch. The only component I see is my Rogue Audio Chronus mag3 tube amp - no need for bright touch screens ruining the "feel" of the glowing tubes.
Thanks for a fantastic review. A few months ago I also bought these two units,I ended up keeping the NodeX and selling the DMP A6. Imo the Node app is by far the best in the market, and I thought the DMP A6 sounded more digital and a bit to bright, but The DMP had abit more detail. I then decided to try linear power supplies (actually 3 different PSUs) I ended up with the top of the line from Fidelity Audio. This is not at all acheap product (1100 GBP) including the interface. The sound coming from the node x is now of absolutely INSANE quality. I also put emi/rfi treatment on all of the chips and opa inside the node. I CANT RECOMMEND THIS UPGRADE ENOUGH.
Strange to spend twice the amount of a product on an alternative power supply. Surely the total amount would have bought a superior product to begin with.
Hi David. I know,it seems very strange, but it really paid off. It hands down beat the Auralic Aries streamer transport, and not by a margin. I now use the node x as a transport into Audionote 5.1 signature dac. Its a dream match.
Great review! Would love to see more info on streamers being used only as digital transport feeding an external DAC. You touched on it a bit but I wonder how much difference there really is as you spend more on a transport while keeping the external DAC the same...
Just upgraded my DMP-A6 master edition with this a teddy pardo outboard linear power supply. No more brightness, more bass weight. Strongly recommend it.
Overall, I ultimately chose a Node N130 because of the app interface. I equipped the N130 with a sturdy PD Creative LPS for an extra 300 euros. I'm happy with it.
Thanks, Tarun, for another informative and detailed review. I have a more expensive version of EverSolo DMP-A6: the Master Edition. This one have better clocks (Femtosecond) and better OP-AMPs. I'm partering it with Yamaha AS2100 and Focal Aria 948. In spite of every one of these devices sounding a little brighter (or so the internet says), the sound is not unmusical or analitical to my ears. Parhaps it is worth reviewing the Master Edition in the near future. Or the new Eversolo DMP-A8, which has a R2R volume control for pre-amp, better DAC chips and the conectivity DMP-A6 lacks.
Tarun, another superb, detailed review, sir. I am building my analog two-channel system from scratch, and appreciate your ideas on pairing of gear. Please keep up these great A-B comparisons. Your channel is appreciated by audiophiles of all stripes and levels!
I’m currently using my Bluesound Node as a transport into an external DAC and then into my AE-1 Active speakers and have been very pleased with the setup. One comment: I experienced a drastic improvement in clarity after Upgrading the RCA analog cables to BlueJean cables. Highly recommended for less than $100. One Question: I’m connecting the Subwoofer via LFE connection (60hz crossover) thus keeping all frequencies below 60hz from reaching my active speakers. I am at a loss how to do this on an Eversolo which does not have the LFE output. Thanks for a great review.
Thanks for your comment. I used a good Toslink connection. My reasoning was I would avoid any interference from the nest of wires behind my TV. Can you tell the difference with USB? I can’t believe no one is complaining about the lack of LFE output.
Tarun, as much as I was looking forward to this review, I was also worried about the potential financial impact of your recommendations. So I preemptively bought the iFi Zen Stream at about one-third the cost. It has Airplay1 (I believe) and a USB out. Its wireless connectivity (I use Apple Music primarily) is a bit glitchy but sounds pretty good. With the RME ADI-2, DAC functionality was not a requirement. And so I fearlessly watched and enjoyed this terrific review!
Very interesting that you found an overall sound character with the two that carried over when connected to external DACs. .. I don't doubt the observation, but I do scratch my head
Good day Well i made my own comparison 6 months ago between both devices. I finally bought the NodeX. Why? It has a very good BueOS app which is stunning. The sabre chips are best in class for the price and the lengevity of the brand is probably better. node is made in Canada and is the same audiophile company then NAD belongs to. Eversolo is brand new on the market and you won’t know today how long for. But at the end of the day everyone must listen to both devices and make their own subjective decision. I am just happy about the NodeX. Happy listening guys. Peter
A big thankyou sir, This one looks so good quality chinese,,the cambrigde audio although the screen is smaller but its richer in contrast,,,this jus looks like a vertical smartphone
Thanks Tarun, another very good review, keep it up. I listened to the DMP A6 standard and I liked it, but in the end I bought the Master Edition and I'm very happy. I had a Gustard X26 Pro DAC that I sold because I was thinking of an upgrade, but after I got the A6 Master I gave it up because the internal DAC is very good. Maybe something in the area of over 4000 euros will make a clear difference. But until I will have this money, there is more. Qobuz is not available in my country, I tested Tidal (I didn't like MQA at all), but Apple Music convinced me, it seems to me that the sound is better than Tidal and on the DMP A6 it can be listened to in HiRes, so Eversolo offered me the best option . Have you tried Apple Music?
After owning an NAD M33, the touch screen quickly became a useless novelty. Also since I sit directly across from my system and at some distance, I began to find the light from the display annoying.Unless you are sitting very close to the unit or are frequently on your feet while listening.Otherwise I consider touchscreens as somewhat of a gimmick.
Hi Tarun, very interesting to hear your opinion on the A6. I’m sure you already know that you can purchase a linear toroidal power supply for the A6….I’d love to know what/if difference it makes?
By that stage you could buy a good streamer instead made by a hifi company. The Node X is a better buy for support and longevity, who are Zidoo in hifi land?
Tanks Nice video , in a streamer the app is importent to me ,No fuss needed , i upgraded my N130 With an external powersupply and also upgraded the internal power board using it as streamer only The bluesound app is why i havent committet to changing yet , but maby in time 😅
Well, I have the Bluesound Node 2i and the Hifi Rose Rs250a. Hifi Rose very happy with the sound, but disastrous support for software updates. It does not have support for podcasts or radios in Spain, it does not support Tidal Connect, it does not have Amazon Music,... As for the app, any streamer beats it, but in terms of sound and connectivity, no. Thankyou so much for the videos.
One missing feature on the bluesound kicks it out: UPNP/DLNA... I don't understand why bluesound devices do not support a simple and reliable protocol like UPNP/DLNA which even a low budget network player can use.
Hi Tauren! I truly enjoy all of your reviews! I find them to be very Thoughtful, cerebral and in a class of their own, I hope you can help with some upgrade advise? I am currently using an eversolo A6 streaming via usb into a Pontus 2. I have a Denafrips Athena preamp and A21 parasound amp along with vintage all redone IMF Tls 50 loudspeakers. Wondering what would give me more bang for my buck ? A) upgrading to a Venus II or B) ..adding a ddc iris or Hermes to the Pontus? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. thank you in advance
Thank you kindly. It strikes me that you have a well balanced system. I would focus on what area of performance you would like to improve and let that direct the path you take 😊👍
I’m considering pairing an Eversolo with my powered Buchardt A500’s and getting rid of the Buchardt supplied Platin hub which has been problematic since day one. I wonder if anyone can comment on this upgrade?
Hi Tarun ,great video as always ,i have a 6000a as a pre amp into an upgraded 8000p power amp ,in your opinion which has the better sounding dac ,the 6000a or the dmp a6 ? Also is the coax out of the streamer that bad that it spoils the streamer as a transport unless you have an amp with a usb connection which the 6000a doesn't ?
Biggest plus for me on the DMP A6 is what you seem to take as an issue: being able to output multichannel (DSD) digital streams over the HDMI out. Are you aware of any other standalone streamers that can do this (not mentioning the blu-ray player integrated media streaming apps like the one on the Sony UBP X800M2 or the Oppo BD 203, which are not super comfortable to use)?
Hi there. I am hoping to have your advise once again. Recently change my system to atoll in200in with the build in dac and kef r3 meta. Currently i am using wiim mini as a streamer. I think the system asof right now is on the bright side of neutral. The mids and highs are forward The base is punchy and very quick but lack some weight. My currecnt cables are van den hul CS122 which from what i am getting push the hights so i am awaiting to change the cablea with mogami w3104 which should help to some extend with the base. Do you think changing the wiim mini for blusound node X or maybe the N130 as a transport only will help balance the systems ?Is there any difrence between both nodes if used only as transport ?
Hi I really need advice if at all possible ,,, thanks… I just want to use the eversolo off line with no network connection. I only have my iPhone 12 with unlimited data and I don’t have a broadband network provider. I have Spotify on my mobile phone. Can I still use the A6 with just using Bluetooth from my iPhone? Any advice would be be greatly appreciated
Have you reviewed the Cambridge cnxv2 which is at a competitive price. it is recommended by what hifi and won their streamer of the year a word for the last three years.
The 6000a is rolled off at the top and lacking in midrange...the eversolo has opened it up and I have lots of detail...running thru pmc fb1i I'm gob smacked tarun. The audiolab I bought years back off your review..was going to upgrade to get more on top but I'm there now ...bang on .
What are your thoughts on pairing the Eversolo with Anthem MRX and MCA, with B&W 702 signature? I’ve been looking for a streamer for sometime and visually the Eversolo is exactly the style I am looking for. It visually has very similar characteristics to the anthem, and I think they would look great together However, ultimately, the sound trumps the appearance .
Hey . Eversolo as a DAC is good enough or better to get a better DAC ? I wanna pair with the Composer austrian áudio Headphones and its amplifier Full Score One. Thank you
Well the Eversolo DMP A8 has just been released. A bit late in the park this one. But I take into account under 1k streamer. Streamers and dacs are now like AV AMPS PHONES AND COMPUTERS. By the time you get em from shop to home they become obsolete.
My Arcam CDS27 SACD streaming network player released in 2014 still worked perfectly until I upgraded it in May. Nothing obsolete about it and I'm sorry I sold it, if it supports uPnP DNLA you should be always good with 3rd party software too.
@@nocturnal1970 you miss understand my point. I'm referring to the rate at wish newer versions are released. I got hifi products that are 20yrs old I still use till today. And yes people already regretting buying the DMP A6 and not even 6months later DMP A8 comes out.

DMP-A8 is out, but over double the price of the A6. But it is also a fully fledged pre-amp, & also believe it has HDMI ARC. PS great review as always 😀🤘🤘
Yes, the DMP A8 is a real contender… price is an issue though. I probably would’ve already bought one if it weren’t for the fact that it’s halfway to true ridiculous “audiophile” prices
You failed to mention one very important feature of the Bluesound Node X that the DMP A6 lacks, bass control. The subwoofer output provides both a crossover for low end filtering and a high end crossover for the mains. If you have a subwoofer, the Node X is a very tempting choice. I still haven't decided which would be better for my own system, but that eArc input is attractive and the bass control is very tempting ...on the other hand there is that damn 6" touch screen. I do like a good set of meters. LOL!!!
The Eversolo is, tmk, the only device that can play Apple Music bitperfect and wireless. By using the internal app and mirroring that with your phone. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I heard that AAC Apple music is not loss-less.. ‘Lossy audio formats provide a solid overall balance of things, with AAC and OGG even being preferred by streaming giants Apple Music and Spotify. That said, if you have plenty of space available on your device, then a lossless FLAC or ALAC file could well be your best option. Giving you access to the best quality digital music, you’ll just need to make sure your devices are all compatible with your file format of choice.’
Thanks for this comparison. As a follow up, there are linear power supply options for both these units. And since I have a DAC that I am very happy with, maybe you can review stand alone streamers, like the Volumio Rivo - and it has an external power supply.
I’ve had the A6 master edition with upgraded vinshine LPS inside, I absolutely love it, amazed at how much detail it reveals. The feature of actually getting full lossless from Apple music via the cast menu is what first sold me plus internal ssd slot & xlr out into my pre amp but the added VU meters & with the new graphic equaliser screen (released in the last update) is nice I like the layout on both the screen & app, the radio streaming services (esp radio paradise) all add to this powerhouse of a little unit, it is definitely the best bit of hifi I’ve bought for the money ( I’ve had Cyrus, naim 500 series ) Sound quality wise I agree at first the vocal was very forward but after 2 months it’s burned in & softer, you really pick out the bass which I love actually hear it’s a stringed instrument not that boom boom which I hate. Music definitely sounds better from the internal ssd (if installed) than streaming but not that the streamed music sounds bad at all. Anyone purchasing one won’t be disappointed, had several updates already so they are working hard on improving it all the time. I wish they would release a streamer only version with i2s output (the A8 has this) so that you can save a bit of money to put towards a dac of your choice but otherwise a brilliant unit.
You're are not only the best in terms of explaining sound quality, but also the most enlightening for understanding a products technical specs and best use cases for setting up similar gear. I need to get some usb cords because I assumed the transport use of a streamer would be the same regardless of digital output used and the high-end dac would always handle clocking. I mistakenly thought usb was mainly only for use with a computer source. Thank you for explaining syncronous transmission because I've been using the optical input on my tube dac from my iFi Neo Stream all these years and usb may be a better choice. Of course will be product dependent. I think my dac uses xmos chip for usb but don't know if that's good or bad but certainly worth trying.
Thank you David. Much appreciated. Some modern DACs do reclock optical and coax inputs but asynchronous is generally going to have lower jitter due to the handshake of information 😊👍
I've had the DMP-A6 for just over two weeks now. I agree with your assessment on resolution - it's very detailed. This resolution really separates the instruments. It is easy to hear individual vocalists in a group. I found the "apodizing" filter best for my system and agree that the different filters are subtle. I recommend waiting a good 30 seconds after switching filters to hear the difference, probably due to memory buffer. I am very happy with the sound of this DAC. Features that sold me: The touchscreen is very nice. The display options are great. Built in Quobuz, Tidal and Amazon Music apps. I love the way streaming rates and technical info is displayed. The internal SSD was a big factor for me as well. The fact that I've gotten 2 firmware updates in as many weeks is promising. Eversolo seems to care about this product and is supporting it.
Only two things are important in a streamer to me: connection/software reliability and SQ. No need for stupid screen, I have multiples screens already(iPad, iPhone, TV). In my experience, the Android based streamers are very buggy (even the high-end ones like the Rose) . The most stable and better sounding streamer that I've tried is the PI2AES.
Just switched from the Bluesound Node N130 to the Eversolo A6 Master Edition. I was sick of a few persistent bugs with the Bluesound app, and the Eversolo app works better for me, and the A6 offers that nice UI on screen, too. It sounds way better than my Bluesound ever did, albeit it wasn't the X, of course. The master edition has better op amps and femtosecond oscillators and sounds a bit less bright or fatiguing than the regular A6 can do with some partnering equipment I heard. Never had a chance to compare, though, but it's a nice streamer no doubt.
IMO the Bluesound node X runs laps around the Eversolo. Node X has not only pre-outs but also sub-out and built in high and low pass filters with bass management. It also has HDMI eARC with audio/video sync/delay which the eversolo doesnt. Further the Node X sounds better than the Eversolo, the bluesound app is lightyears better than the ever solo, AND very soon Node X will have Dirac Live as a free update.
Thanks for this comparison. I have the Node X and use it only for headphone listening. A friend of mine has the regular Node 2 and tested the headphone outputs on a pretty good headphone (Dan Clark, don’t know the exact model) and found the X was clearly better. The Eversolo with the touch screen really would benefit from a good headphone stage because then you’re close to the device anyway. In my main system I have a NAD M33 and hardly ever use the screen, it’s mainly ROON.
I do wish these manufacturers of streamers would produce them without onboard Dacs, a lot of people are going to use their own dac anyway. So why pay for an extra that isn't necessary? An I2S socket would be of more use !
A WIIM pro plus with a decent power supply will probably be the best value proposition in the market. Especially if your system is on the lower end of things. Argon Solo as well. It has better SQ than WIIM, but it is EU only. Using an external DAC will further complicate choices, as you pay quite a lot for the DAC in the Eversolo if you are not going to use it, It's value will plummet. Also there are power supply upgrades for the Node (but not the X i believe, the N130) and the DMP-A6.
Thanks Tarun for a well balanced review. I recently bought the Eversolo DMP-A6 and I just love it. No headphone socket? If I want to listen through headphones, which I rarely do, too unnatural for me, then I just plug into the socket on my amp. No HDMI ARC? Still, no real bother to me. I'm happy with this unit as is. The ease with which I setup and started enjoying my music, via Tidal and external hard drive, simply amazed me. The Eversolo app was quick to install and use on both my iPhone and my Lenovo android tablet. Choosing my external hard drive source was seamless as was the choosing of albums and individual tracks. I also had no difficulty using the WiFi with the A6. This is my first hifi streamer component and I'm very satisfied with the A6. For the price, and mostly positive reviews, the Eversolo, in my opinion (we always have to qualify our comments with this, right?), was the logical choice.
My main reservation with android based DMP is that it may not receive android updates after 3-4 years and then some of the apps like Apple Music will stop working. Apple Music with high res is the only reason I can think about to change from Blusound to DMP.
As I don't stream music from the Web, but only FLAC files ripped from CDs and stored on SSD, I'd only use the DMP-A6 as a music server instead of my Dell laptop. My question is, as a music server, do you think it might sound better than a laptop? BTW, it's good to see you're getting some sponsorship now. Long overdue considering how good your reviews always are. 😊
For me the tidal connect and Roon end point capability.on a streamer is more important than it's app. I would rather have these 2 functions instead of a good app interface. That is why I use WiiM Pro and Gustard R26. If I want to Play from Roon I use Gustard's renderer if I want to use Tidal Connect I use WiiM Pro. I wish Gustarrd had tidal connect capability on it's internal streamer
Thanks Tarun. Awaiting for you to review the Denafrips Arce streamer and give your thoughts about it. I switched from the U2mini to an Arce. No regrets
Thoroughly enjoyed your review. Incidently, I recently bought the Bluesound Vault 2 and have transferred my entire CD collection to the Vault. My Vault/CD Library is now connected to my incredibly wonderful Integrated Cambridge CXA81 and Canadian PSB Tower Speakers - Colonial Technology, Products and Sound, at its Finest Incredible Value!
Thanks again for these great insights on streamers, Tarun! 👏🏻😃. I still stream with my Logitech Squezzebox (with an external NOS DAC from Metrum). But the time comes where I want to replace the streamer with - maybe - the Bluesound Node X… (or the Cambridge Audio MXN10?) 👍🏻 For me the streamer must be small and should „disappear“, as I will control it anyway with an app…
Loving the DMP-A6 with my Exposure 3510 pre/power and Mission 770 speakers. The brightness you describe was noted when I bought it but seems to have mellowed now... or perhaps ears have : ) ... The forward presentation works a treat in my otherwise quite warm, laid back rig. Don't love the software experience if I'm honest but it works. Great review.
I learn so much from his reviews. I appreciate learning that the dac is good up to the $1000 speaker before it gets to be the limiter. My speakers are $3500 bookshelf speakers so i probably should look to go between the ares2 and the venus 2 to get the most out of my speakers. I would like to get some info about the digital preamp section on the node and dmp product. Do you need a proper preamp in-between these and an amp or does it sound fine without one when you go directly into the power amp???
Thank you Jason. If you have 3k speakers I wouldn’t be relying on the digital volume control on the streamer a dedicated preamp or integrated that is up to the job 😊
I have the A6 connected to a Gustard R26 via an Audioquest cinnamon USB cable. I’m very pleased with the combination. Also I like the spectrum analyzer on the latest firmware update.
Yawn. There is no comparison with a crummy Blue Sound Node and Eversolo DMP A6 basic edition. Eversolo changed the game. Nut said. Of course all the content producers committed to the old generation of streamers have to keep the name in the space.
I think your comparison is a little unfair in missing out perhaps the main reason to decide upon the NodeX…you choose to not mention the ‘elephant in the room’ in that the Bluesound is the ONLY provider of top bit rate streaming to remote speakers. This ability to have around the home Qobuz or Tidal etc in best quality hi-fi is unique to Bluesound, a fancy LCD screen can no way compensate if you’re looking for quality music around the home.
Eversolo was too bright for my system even w ares 2 DAC … Pls review some new stand alone streamers. Many of us have great external DACs such as my Pontus 2. If Eversolo made a similarly priced and designed streamer as a6 but upgraded components, linear power supply, no DAC, no pre amp, many customers ready for that device. Thanks!
Another accurate review, I have listened to both Node and Eversolo and the sound is exactly how Tarun describes it on these units, Node = warm and layback, Eversolo = lively and forward, it depends entirely on the synergy you want to achieve on your audio system.
I have watched some of your reviews and appreciated their clarity and straightforwardness. I would very much appreciate if you could review the Border Patrol SE-i DAC. I was attracted by the great user interface of the DMP-A6 and was thinking to get it and use it as transport into my BP DAC, but the USB-in of the BP DAC only accepts Windows or MacOS, not Android. I seem to recall that the Eversolo streamers use an Android OS, so perhaps it would not work. Is the coax signal out of the DMP-A6 really so bad? Gear: Yamaha NP-S303 streamer, Border Patrol SE-i DAC, Audio Note M2 pre, Bel Canto REF 1000M, Magneplanar MG12QR.
Thanks for another very informative video. Your timing is perfect. I have been looking at both and your feedback will be very helpful. I have an earlier version of the Node and love controlling it from my iPad. I love the meters look and I don’t want to have to spend the money to get a Mac since I have excellent amps. So both have their benefits. The cost difference may be the final data point. Thanks.
Please take note of the part where Tarun suggests how to transport audio from the streamer to DAC, at 13:56. Following his advice, I started using a USB asynchronous connection, which means that the external DAC handles the audio clock instead of the streamer. This is different from SPDIF and optical cable connections where the audio clock is done on the streamer. I noticed a significant difference in audio quality in favor of the USB connection. For reference, I use a BlueSound Node 130 and Ladder Schumann R2R DAC. I hope this information is useful to you as well! 🙂
Great review sir! One recommendation that I would like to ask if possible, I am leaning towards the Node X but I am told if you enable the USB output that will mute all the other outputs? Is that correct on both the Node and Node X and what are users using to enable one to use the unit for use in two systems. I have one system with a Rotel RC-1572MKII preamplifier which would use the USB, but also wanted to send an output to another system using an Anthem Receiver so I listen in both rooms.
I don't suppose you have heard the Master Edition of the DMP-A6 by any chance? Was just wondering whether it is worth paying the premium? As for what I look for in a streamer? Not unlike others, I am just guessing many would look for that large touch screen to show off the beautiful colourful album artworks. For this money, I think the 6" screen on the Eversolo DMP-A6 is fine. But, if I were to pay more, I think the new Eversolo DMP-A8 which costs around I believe GBP 1,890 misses the mark on pricing for the brand. I think the sweet spot for Eversolo is around the DMP-A6 either regular or Master Edition price point. At around the GBP 2K mark, I would rather go for the HiFi Rose RS250 with its much bigger screen as well as "made in Korea" over "made in China" build quality too.
I have the Wiim pro plus and the Node. I prefer the Node (with ultra low noise power supply) while the internal dac is sounding warmer than the Wiim in combination with a Hegel H390 who has about the same AKM dac as the Wiim. Too bright for my taste without equalization.
great job! well done!... do you think you will have opportunity to test Lumin U2 mini? that could be a very interesting product, as pure streamer, below 2keuro
Great video! Love your channel!!! I am looking at the Eversolo ME-A6. Maybe I missed this (if I did forgive me for the redundance) I have a 5.1 system with an Emotiva XPA amp driving LCR and my AV reciever deriving the surrounds. Will the eversolo output sound when I look at mives to all channels?
A heartfelt thanks for your work you do here. Yours was the final review I watched regarding the Node X before finally ordering one. I definitely wanted something that physically disappeared from view, and based on your high marks regarding the Bluesound interface, (I use Android mainly, but now and again Macbook), that really allows it to happen. One word to the wise, I bought a re-certified unit from Safe And Sound "not sure about that, looks new to me", but out of the box it sounded completely lifeless and disappointing. I figured that it must need a thorough amount of burn-in time, but in the meantime I'll continue getting familiar with it's GUI. After a bit of time playing with various settings I decided to off the tone controls "bass and treble were both flat" and all-of-a-sudden the music snapped into focus and leapt out into the room. Certainly further reinforces my personal long held belief that tone controls just get in the way.
What I look for is a mobile free solution. Did not really understand your playlist comment on 10:21. Can I just switch on, press spotify, select my favorite album and sit back? Thank you for this great video.
Thanks Tarun. It's amazing how my day brightens when another of your reviews appears. I used to have third gen Node with and external linear power supply then lost my mind and some money upgrading to an Aralyc Ares G1.1 streamer. The sound improved a lot but did it improve the difference from $800 worth to $3300? I cant say except when things improve and it's hard to go back and the Acrylic sounds outstanding with a Cardas USB cable to a Pontus II.One thing to note is the new Eversolo 8 comes in at a whopping $2000! Also the Ares G11 is due for an upgrade so Auralic is blowing them out for a thousand off at $2300. Wonder if Auralic is going to increase screen size in the upgrade. As it sits now, reading the menu on the screen is like reading the drug information on a bottle of pills, the stuff they dont really want you to read. I think streaming is one area of hifi that is going to keep rapidly improving and consequently costs for a good streamer will drop with competition. All good things.
Better with a more basic but big font display you can read from across the room like my Arcam has, I never have to leave the sofa nor need binoculars. I also mostly use it with the attached USB drive or Mac Server and the remote, no app needed for that. Nice streamer though you have, a league above this Eversolo.
You are one of a select few who can say that. By the way, Just saw a review of a linear power supply that you change out for the switching one in the streamer. Supposed to smooth it out and give better balance. Price is $280 US. Cheaper than an upgrade to an 8.@@abritishaudiophile7314
Not that I'm looking for anything in a streamer per se, at least at this point in time, but I happen to own the NAD C 3050 LE which rocks the BluOS platform and I gotta say; there's a lot of catching up to do for other companies! You nailed it in the beginning of this video, companies (and their streamers) live and die by the quality of their app a 100%.
You can rip a CD via USB, but you cannot transfer your old content, for example minidisc, to the eversolo via coaxial analog. If they make that possible, I will buy one tomorrow.
Good review! I have about 3.5k cds in a BS Vault2/external DAC and two Node2. The Vault is unique as cd server/streamer in one box. I have three rigs in my house and the BS devices work seamlessly. Some of the best money I have ever spent on audio.
What’s the 101 on streamers? I assume that you plug an Ethernet internet cable into the device connect to the amp, then use a phone app to control, but how do you use the app to use Spotify/iTunes/ BBC iplayer etc? **Edit**Ah right. Tarun thanks for explaining further into the video 👊🏻
I have an iPad as my streamer into an Ares II, into a Yamaha receiver into Q Acoustics Concept 50’s. What if any improvements should I expect with the Eversolo? Thanks for your help.
Another quality comparison video, cheers. I use the ES A-6 for streaming (transport only) using a curious USB cable. I get amazing results with my Michi P5/S5, ATC40 and SVS2000SB sub. I'd like to add that connecting to Tidal via airplay is inconsistent and below average performance. Always connect with 'tidal connect'. I agree with your assessment and also highly recommend.
Thanks Tarun, it looks like the Eversolo does BBC Sounds, that is a massive bonus. Bluesound still have not got BBCSounds connectivity, you have to use TuneIn. However, TuneIn does not work with BBC 5Live Sports Extra, which means you cannot stream the cricket commentary. You instead have to use Bluetooth or airplay and stream it directly from the bbc sounds app on your phone/iPad.
Hi Tarun, thanks for another well grounded review. For me the best connectivity to a good external DAC would probably be the most useful consideration 😎👍 We currently use a bluesound node 2i Vault. Love the app but connectivity to a good DAC is very limited. Also you can get the eversolo master edition and an upgraded linear power supply. We haven’t been unhappy with the Vault but will move towards a much better quality streamer.
Cambridge Audio V2 still ticks all the boxes . Maybe not in the app but Tidal etc have great apps . I'm not crazy on the Eversolo dac side, but that's a personal preference . The new 2k Eversolo might well fit the bill, and steer me away from the V2 for pre amp streaming and dac duty . Great review as always .
A great one Tarun.I was looking at this solo unit. But right now, I am pondering a set of ATC speakers. I have a set of Founder 80s and they sound great. Really good. I just like the bookshelv sound better.
Excellent review as always after much deliberation I bought the node x & Married it up with the exposure 3510 couldn’t be happier 👍for the now anyway 😅 very pleased 😁
I would love to see you do an A/B comparison of a Node X with an upgraded power supply module that uses an external LPS. I'm sure someone would be willing to send you a loner for the comparison. 😉
Thanks for a lovely informative video, as always! It seems that streamers and DACs are the coalface in hifi at present. It’s getting harder to find ever more superlatives in this rapidly evolving market.
Tarun please be advised that your situation wrt having difficulties with the connectivity of the Eversolo unit & mobile devices (@10:00 mark) is not singular. I have had an ongoing ticket with the company on this issue for several weeks now. In my case the app on my Android phone will not connect to the unit, nor will Spotify Connect work on same. However when I shift to my Android tablet both work perfectly...after which the phone UI is then fully operable. Similar quirks exist with Spotify on my laptop (web version - casting Spotify no / installed app - casting Spotify yes). I have forwarded your video to the company...now that I know I'm not alone. Thx for the review.
@@abritishaudiophile7314 I would say the chances of that are strongly positive owing to the fact that the company is extremely receptive to feedback as demonstrated by the continuous rollouts of FW since I purchased the unit. They are constantly applying fixes & upgrades - ergo the commitment to ongoing QC & improvement appears to be genuine. Cheers.
Thank you, I’m pleased I discovered your channel & subbed. It’s nice have comparison vids that can be described as no nonsense yet not demeaning! I simply can’t stand any more of the Guy’s & Girl’s vids with huge musical intros & ‘Super Excited’ enthusiasm from start to finish, it’s exhausting. I’m torn between a ROSE, Auralic Aries & Eversolo….. BUT…… I really only need a Transport as I go from streamer (Node 2i) to CHORD Qutest DAC & onto an Accuphase amp. My question, before the Aztecs rise up & threaten World Peace, is….. (if you have the time to answer)…. …. Can I expect an enhancement in audio quality when I am only using it as a transport & bypassing the internal DAC 🤷♂️. I worry that I will simply be getting a fancier looking unit & a different interface as I won’t be utilising the DAC. I’m not interested in the touchscreen facility, ‘Audio Quality’ only. In ‘your’ experience, can I improve on the Audio quality (MQA unwrapping aside) by upgrading my streamer when I am still going to be using an external DAC? If so then I don’t mind spending ‘considerably’ more, but only if I am getting better audio! I understand if you don’t have the time to reply…… you’re building the channel, & building it well! Congrats & thanks again! Kr, Stu.
Thank you Stu. I appreciate your support. In summary, yes! The transport can make a noticeable difference to the sound if the rest of the system is revealing enough. The Auralic Aries G1.1 is the best one I have heard so far 👍
@@abritishaudiophile7314 fabulous, I just needed someone to help me make the decision 🤷♂️. I will sort purchasing one tomorrow or Wednesday! My system is pretty modest really but quite revealing. I adore the Accuphase E-270, I initially was interested in it as a Headphone Amp for my P9 & P7’s lol as I listened to it before & loved what I heard, however, due to the quality current it produces it services my CDM 9NT’s fantastically with the Qutest DAC & REL T/7x. Far better than my other set up of the 705 Sig. The dedicated FST Mid I guess. Anyway, I will now upgrade the Node with an Auralic you mention, it was suggested to me before & now the jump will be easy as it’s reasonably affordable & I expect to upgrade a Streamer every few years due to tech. Thank you…….. Kr, Stu.
Hi Tarun, what I found is missing on all Eversolo reviews (and all Android based streamers for that matter) is to mention if it has the capability of downloading the music locally (like on the phone) or not, which in my experience always adds another step up in sound quality compared with online streaming. This can be a decisive factors for many audiophiles especially when compared with the likes of Blusound devices which do not offer this functionality.
