Headlight or daytime light change 2007-13 Silverado, Tahoe, suburban, yukon 

The removal of the front screws across the full front was the key to getting to the back of the light assembly. I've removed the bolt from the underside of the assembly permanently so I don't have to remove the flap over the tire any more. What should have taken 5 minutes took seemingly forever. I have a 2007 Suburban with the exact same setup. You are absolutely correct. it's not impossible to do, but damn is ridiculously difficult. My dad told me over 20 years ago that cars and trucks nowadays are more and more designed to where they have to go to a dealership or some sort of specialist to get any kind of work done. The days of the shade tree are almost completely over. to hell with this. I'm going to find something from the seventies or maybe even the sixties and call it a day. I love these newer vehicles and their technology, but when you have to go through this much s*** to change a light, that's when you know it's time to make a lot of serious life changes and purchases.

My 2013 PPV Tahoe only had to remove the two 10s that hold the headlight in then about 8 fasteners 2 fillip head screws that go to the inner fender before removing the 10 that holds the headlight fender and bumper together. GMC way of thinking that they would make money bc a lot of ppl are not trying to do all that mess. Lol. Thanks for the video

I just did this. Make sure to twist and lightly pry (the tool to remove the plastic snap fasteners works well) to get the daytime running light out. It appears that these lights have molded tabs in them that pop into mating grooves in the light housing. Don’t do what I did and pry too hard and then break the bad bulb off inside the housing! I spent most of the time on this job trying to get the broken bulb out of the light housing with my fingers. If you’re doing this then you know how little room there is. I finally had success by wrapping gorilla tape around my index finger and sticking it to the broken bulb. I then slowly pulled my finger and the bulb out of the small opening in the light housing.

I thought I was having a brain fart! Thank you! And of course it's winter and my inspection is due next month. What a pain in the butt this is going to be 😩

Just a heads up. I went out and bought the $15 bulb and when I finally got the housing loose, I turned the bulb 1/4 turn to remove it and it came on. Same thing happened last time when the other side went out. That one is still working after a year or so.

Just finished it in the cold. Took about 45 min as well. Beware it was cold and one of the drivers side plastic clips snapped off. It was the one near the grill. I put it back together it was secure. I also removed the wheel well enough to get back there. I have small/med hands. If you have big ones good luck.

Worked perfect for a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche. No need to remove the inner fender well as stated on other posts.

I have a 2013 Suburban and was wondering how the heck to replace running light bulb. You are 100% right.... completely ridiculous.

I have been able to do the headlights with out loosing all the bolts or pulling the plugs on the wheel well..I was afraid of the problem with the running lights.

You just loosen the 10 mm from behind the fender well? You don't remove it? The two on top are completely removed?

To get to the driver side daytime running light on a 07 Tahoe, just open the hood and reach behind the light and move the plastic curtain aside and unscrew the socket. No tools needed .

I wish I had seen this before I did mine. I didn’t know what to remove so wound up removing the headlight the grill the bumper and the radiator. Now I can’t get any of it back together. It is the hardest thing I have ever worked on. Bulb cost 3.99 I have spent probably 20 hours and am no where near finished.

if its not cold out you dont need to undo the wheel well...just changed both day time running light in about 15 min.

Would this be the same for a 2007 ext escalade?

I found that a clip, on the radiator side of the headlight assembly and by releasing the two 10mm screws on the top, I can completely free the headlight housing. My problem is that something else on the bottom is keeping it from coming out of the grill, any one care to look into that, I am sure there has to be a simple solution, why else would they put the clip in place. I mean that the entire headlight housing is only connected by then electrical wires but the opening in the grill seems to be too small to get the housing out, it has to be something simple! Doesn't it? I am working with a 2010 Chevy Avalanche, the same as a Silverado.

It's even more ridiculous when you need to swap out the headlight housing. You take out all those 10mm plus there's two bonus 10mm under the front bumper near the fog lights and then you have to pull the whole front bumper off.

98 to 2006 or so the entire housing has 2 pins and very simple access...why did GM do this to the 07 to 14???

All manufacturer are doing that now, not just GM. If they would've come up with a way where it would be as simple as changing the taillight bulb, as the same way as the headlight bulb, we'd be happier.

Escalade is the same! I told the service manager that it's outrageous that average owners must bring their vehicle in to change a light bulb!

I remember when changing headlight bulbs use to take 5 seconds. Assholes from Chevy making it harder and harder for people to do their own work on their cars.

Don't you just want to beat the engineer that did this, drivers side i was able to replace a head light without taking the wheel well loose. but the daylight running light on the passenger side i had to take it loose to get my hand down there to be able to turn it loose...... a pain....but it beats paying a garage to do it... a $3 bulb + a hour labor... insane

GM Making it difficult to replace bulb is ABSOLUTELY INSANE! This is my 1st time owning a GM vehicle. I currently also have a Benz & a BMW & their engineers makes it easy to replace bulbs because they know that this is something so easy enough that majority of the owners will replace the bulbs themselves. I WILL definitely make this a factor next time i buy a car! Those GM Engineers are nothing but a bunch of clowns. I picked a Suburban because i want a vehicle that can seat 8 passengers & still have a GIANT LUGGAGE ROOM. Benz & BMW unfortunately Does not make such vehicle, hence my choice, but after experiencing this STUPIDITY...it's hard for me to justify STUPIDITY like this! I'm posting this to ALL relevant videos to get GM's attention so that they dont commit the same STUPIDITY again! Thanks for posting this video.

This is extremely easy I have done this multiple time not hard you can actually do all of it In less than 5 minutes.

Funny, the 2003 and older were simple. Pull 2 pins out and you had the entire headlight assembly in your hands.

I just replaced the driver side DRL on a 2011 Suburban without releasing the grille. There is plenty of room to reach from behind next to the radiator to release and replace the socket. The wires are long enough to feed it up high to replace the bulb. Much easier than this video.
