Excellent video to the point I was looking for. I didn't know Virtual Outs from DAW are still played on Monitors as well. It did and just not headphones!

Just got an X8 and trying to set it up. One weird thing that's throwing me off is I see my 8 Virtual channels, but then to the far right I see two more virtual channels (1 and 2) As well as another set of two Analog channels (1 and 2). The analog channels aren't linked to my first two analog channels either, meaning if I adjust the preamp gain it doesn't follow. So it's not the same channel listed twice. Any idea why this is? For reference, here's my channel list in order: *Stars next to the channels in question.* Any thoughts would be super helpful! Thanks! Analog 1 Analog 2 Analog 3 Analog 4 Analog 5 Analog 6 Analog 7 Analog 8 ADAT 1 ADAT 2 ADAT 3 ADAT 4 ADAT 5 ADAT 6 ADAT 7 ADAT 8 S/PDIF Virtual 1 Virtual 2 Virtual 3 Virtual 4 Virtual 5 Virtual 6 Virtual 7 Virtual 8 Analog 1 ** Analog 2 ** S/PDIF ** Virtual 1 ** Virtual 2 **

When I open the window with the four faders above the channel, there is an fader labeled HP for Head Phone when I move it, I don't hear any change on my headphones. What could be the reason for this? If I set in the cue Routing to Headphone I cant hear anything at all from my Logic Play-back on the headphones---- wahr a complicated software...

Is there a way to route to the line outs instead of the cue? I'm trying to use wireless in ear monitors for live performances and I don't really get any of this xD
@nstandage
@nstandage 2 года назад
Yes, that is possible. What you'll do is select the line outputs instead of the virtual ones in your DAW. 2:47 Shows them inside Pro Tools. They'll look something like LINE 1-2 for stereo or LINE 1 for mono.

Is there a way to connect an external foot pedal to the Apollo that will enable talkback? Foot switch

For some reason I’m still not hearing anything from my headphones 😢 and I just bought my Apollo twin x duo I’m still having trouble with and with out the Daw I plug my headphones into the speakers jacks in the back and it plays but cracks and distorted sound if I turn it up to loud but I just want them to play in the front hp port of my Apollo on my Mac and in my daw so could you please help me with this I don’t own speakers just headphones please thank you
@theeleanormusic
@theeleanormusic Год назад
I don't own an Apollo Twin, but looking at pictures, it looks like the headphone jack is on the front right corner. The plugs on the back are for speakers. They're both line level, but the settings you're adjusting in Console won't affect them. Are you hearing anything out of jack on the front?

@@theeleanormusic no nothing at all is there anyway I could get in contact via instagram or email or something and we could go over this one on one I do need help it could be me not routing right or it could be a firmware issue

@@showtime439 One more thing to try would be re-installing Console and making sure you went into System Preferences and allowed the app to run. I can't remember the exact steps, but with newer versions of MacOS, you have to explicitly say that you're ok with Console running. It's burned me a few times. Do you remember going into System Preferences and clicking 'Allow'?

Is “low latency monitoring” a must using Apollo because as you probably know you can’t use certain plugins with it enabled E.G. Guitar rig
@theeleanormusic
@theeleanormusic 2 года назад
Yeah, I always use it. If you want to use something like guitar rig, you could turn off low latency monitoring and mute the channel on the Console app, but then you may hear latency depending on your computer/settings.

Wait, I'm a bit confused. (Also, just got an Apollo so a bit of a noob). Why are we sending the reverb to the vocal track AND to the cue tracks, when the vocal track is being sent to the cues itself?
@theeleanormusic
@theeleanormusic 3 года назад
We actually did the opposite: sent the vocal track to the reverb, then to cue 2. We first set up the dry vocals and sent that to cue 2 (headphone out). Then we sent a portion of the dry signal to the reverb, which is 100% wet and sent a portion of that to cue 2. Another way of looking at it is we split the track in two. One is 100% dry and the other is 100% wet. One comes straight from ANALOG 5 (or Vocal as I named it) to Cue 2 and the other takes a pit stop at Aux 1 (to the reverb) before getting sent to Cue 2. Vocal and Aux 1 are completely separate and are both getting sent to Cue 2. Hopefully that helps.

@@theeleanormusic One more question, sorry. I've watched multiple videos on this, and they all suggest using virtual tracks. My question is, why wouldn't I simply use output 3/4 (one of the cue outputs on apollo twin) in my DAW and send everything the singer wants to that track, directly in the DAW? Isn't that the easiest option? I don't think anyone mentioned that in their videos.
@theeleanormusic
@theeleanormusic 3 года назад
No worries, I'm happy to help. The reason we don't use DAW outputs is because of latency. If using just the DAW, the audio has to travel through the audio interface, into the DAW, and then back out the headphones. It becomes much more apparent when your session has lots of virtual instrument and effects. It takes awhile for your computer to process all that data in real time. There's significantly less latency when using built it interface features like virtual tracks and session size doesn’t affect delay.

This is a great video! I have a question, is there any way to hear vst plugin processing in the headphones from pro tools and still record in console without latency? For example, I am using my apollo and console to track vocals and I dont have any UAD vocoding plugins that run off of DSP, but I have VST vocoder plug ins to use as inserts in pro tools. I want to hear the VST vocoder plugin sound effects from pro tools in real time while recording, but also track dry vocals from console into pro tools. Is there any way to do that?
@theeleanormusic
@theeleanormusic 4 года назад
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to do that. The Apollo sends the audio to your headphones without it going to the computer, which is why it has very low latency. In order to hear VSTs (or AAXs to be more correct with Pro Tools), you’d have to have a pretty fast computer and just set your buffer size to be really short. You’d still have latency though because the signal is going through your computer then back out the Apollo. In order to have it work as you’d like, you’ll just have to get a UAD plugin that has the effect you want or just record dry and apply effects after the fact. Hopefully that helps.
@irayt1517
@irayt1517 4 года назад
@@theeleanormusic Well at least I knew I was on the right track because thats exactly what I ended up doing with adjusting my buffer size. Thanks for getting back to me, been questioning this forever and couldnt figure it out. Fortunately my PC is fast enough to do that a little bit, I have 1TB SSD and 24GB of ram with a 4th gen i7 processor. However I am dissapointed that UAD doesnt have an option to buy Auto tune efx + or vocal synth 2 as dsp plugins so we could track with the effects in real time. Thanks again man!

I’m in FL STUDIO with a Apollo Mk2, How can I record and monitor with effects, playback what was recorded (still have the effects) but NOT print? so basically, for a “punch-in” artist... who likes hears playback when recording the next line
@theeleanormusic
@theeleanormusic 3 года назад
I’ve never used FL Studio, but what I would do in this situation is just set up your console app routing like I show here and then have an aux track inside FL that has the same effects. That’s the simplest way to do it. You could also run the vocal track out a virtual output in FL and then inside console, send that track to the effects Aux you set up for monitoring. But that’s probably more work than it’s worth. Hopefully that helps.

None of this ever works no matter how many tutorials I watch lol. Literally nothing. I am debating getting rid of this damn thing cause the frustration I’ve had with this interface is overwhelming. No matter what I do, the audio always turns red and clips on the headphone settings.
@theeleanormusic
@theeleanormusic 3 года назад
I’m sorry to hear that. Without looking at your settings specifically, If you’re clipping, double check all send levels from your DAW and make sure multiple sends aren’t going to the same virtual track. If it’s still not working, let me know and I’ll see if I can help further. I’m more than happy to help.
