Excellent demo dr.! I just got my Headrush and you answered all the questions running through my head on output setup. Great job and keep them coming!!!
Thanks for all that you do! This was helpful when improving the tonal quality from XLR-Out to PA or (FOH). I tested the options live; and found that the Cab-Out was best for my PA.
Hi Doc. I made several rigs, some have stock cabs, some use ir's. I use my alt out to a clean Amp+cab for stage volume. Full rig (including cabsim or ir) goes thru XLR to foh. I can either select ir-in or cab-in as my alt output which means that if I select e.g. ir-in while a rig with cabsim is selected the cabsim goes to my real Amp+cab... And vice versa. I solved this by inserting a disabled ir in rigs that use stock cabs. Hope this makes sense and like to hear you opinion.
I have been STRUGGLING with fizzy tone since I got mine. Been through Global EQ over and over... All this time I should have been on rig and cab out. Thanks for clearing this up!
Great video. Getting my Gigboard today. What's the best way to get a wet/dry configuration? I have two boss katanas and two Tech 21s. Not having the XLR outputs is a bummer.
Marc Pike you would need to have your rig in a parallel configuration and then pan your paths hard left and right so one side is dry and the other side is wet. I will do a video on this. I haven’t messed with other rig configurations.
These devices have given players SO many options...but they can also be confusing. In my experience (various Line 6 devices and a Zoom Gn5) if you go out to a powered speaker you will want to feed the full rig to the output as most powered speakers are designed to reproduce full range sound. In fact, I play with a guitarist currently who runs a Line 6 Firehawk FX out to two Alto two way speakers and it sounds fantastic. I have become convinced that full range powered speakers are the way to go for amplifying modelers on stage. Really HD sound. And to those who say these don't cut through a band mix live...I call bull. Tim's rig is plenty loud and easily competes with my drums and our bassist's Mesa Boogie rig.
It does. He has two of them so it's a stereo rig. He turns them back toward himself like wedge monitors and feeds the XLR outs to the FoH. Best guitar sound I have ever heard on stage in my 40+ years of semi-pro playing.
Hey Doc, just wanted to say thanks, these videos you have up for the Headrush are priceless, really hope Headrush sort you out, your’re a great ambassador for them. Love my Pedalboard. Do you have any idea when the firmware updates will be compatible with MacOS Catalina?
I have the Gigboard and the Global settings are a bit different. Can you advise on the using an external amp and going to the PA(Front of House) using the Gigboard? Thanks for the great information. Love the channel.
There is not an Alt Output option for the Gigboard. You could always use an IR pedal to send out of the Headphones and then use the Main outs to go to an amp with no IR or Cab in the digital chain.
Sorry kind of confused on how to set my alternate output - my rig is a Peavey 6505 to it’s own orange cab - I use 4 cable method so I’m using the headrush just for effects - So I need my whole rigs plus an IR to go to the pa through xlr out and that same exact rig to the amp minus the IR our from the amp output of the board .. what would my alternate output settings be ?
Assuming you are using the IR 1024 file size your Alt Output source needs to be set to Input IR 1024. This will send the full signal out of the XLR when the XLR out is set to Rig and pass the full rig minus the IR when 1/4 Out is set to Alt.
Doctor McFarland Studios Thank you ! That works beautifully, I had to add irs at the of each effects rig , making an Ir preset helped with levels .. sounds amazing for how much time I have into it which is only a day with my replacement board (usb died) so I’m looking forward to really dialing it in 🍻 thanks for the video and tips !
So if I use the Headrush live but don’t use a cab or amp, I run straight through to the mixing board and through the mains and my floor monitor, I would set the input at “cab input” and “alt” ?
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios any idea why my volume on my exp pedal is locked in at 87% on most of my rigs. The volume with the toe all the way down varies from rig to rig but they’re locked mostly between 84-93%. I can’t get 100% of the volume. It’s set at linear on
Hi, I would like to use my Headrush as follows: the direct XLR output in line and the 1/4 output connected to a Electro Harmonix Magnum 44 Power Amp directly in a 2x12 enclosure ... could you tell me if it is possible to configure the output 1/4 without the enclosure simulation and the xlr output with the simulation ??
Thanks for sharing. I'm using the HR as interface to record into my DAW Reaper, can I get two signal into the DAW clean and through the chain? I use the USB cable only.
Yes you need to set the input of one of your tracks two the Low Input I think it’s called. Whatever is the input that is not the first two. That will give you the direct signal that you can later Reamp.
Hi Doc, thanks for the explaination. Can you tell me if its possible to use the HR as a headphone amp? I.e, can I take a feed from an aux send from the mixer and put it into the fx return or aux in and route that to the headphone out without it going to FOH so I can send a full mix to my in ear monitors? I know this is possible in Helix, Im hoping I can do something similar with HR.
Darren Turner I really don’t see why not. I don’t think the aux is routed to the main output or not. I don’t have the HR with me at the moment but I will experiment with it myself.
Darren Turner I had a crack at it last night and the aux signal is sent to the XLR outputs so I don’t suggest trying it for an in ear monitor situation.
So to be clear. In my situation, I run it into a FRFR Headrush and XLR to FOH. I set it to CAB out and leave the XLR on RIG? ALT OUT to RIG? I also connect into FRFR from Phones out, as per your advice. that is RIG also, to get all the effects? Thanks in advance
Everything is set to rig unless you are using a real amp. You wouldn't want the Cab/IR going to your real amp so therefore you would set the 1/4 out to Alt and the source would be Cab/IR Input. This will bypass the cab in the Headrush but still send the rest of the chain. Keep it simple. Just use the XLR of the HR to FOH and the Phones out to FRFR.
Doctor McFarland Studios thanks for the help as for my source should that be specific as in amp or can input/output or will that matter. Thanks in advance
Hi Doc. Love your channel. Helps out a lot especially when I don’t have a lot of time to mess around with settings! Got a quick question for you. Getting ready for a gig, wondering how I should set my alternate output source. Running Headrush FRFR for my stage sound and 1/4 to XLR to Mackie 2x250 non stereo powered PA for front of house. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
If you are going to an FRFR on Stage and still going to the house then i would use the 1/4 in RIG mode so the front of house still gets the full rig sound. If you were using a real amp on stage then thats when I would use the 1/4 in Alt output mode effectively bypassing the cab/IR.
Gibson Les Paul Classic, amazing how clean the sound is coming into the mix. Definitely have to be turned down lower than the other guitar player who’s miking his tube amp.
Hello. I'm new headrush man. I need help to configuration global settings my HR in two situations. 1) HR connected with 1/4 jack to input ampli roland cube 20xl. 2) HR connected with 2 xlr to krk speakers or monitors. CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE?. I'm lost. My sound is very bad. The loop sound bad, etc THANKS
Hi, I'm struggling with this a little as well. I'm using my HRPD with 1/4 " (or XLR) out to my FRFR speaker. Currently still using my Boss GT100 to gig with as can't get a decent sound out of the HR. What do I need to set my outputs/inputs to in Global Settings for this set up?. We play small venues and only use PA for vocals so my floorboard and FRFR cab is my backline. Hope you can advise. Many thanks for all your vids so far, really helpul
Neil Morgan you don’t need to worry about global settings. I suggest downloading some of the Artist packs from the HR website (my Artist pack is pretty good). Dial in your amp tones like you would in real life.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Many thanks for your reply. I have the Guns and JB artist packs loaded in already. I dont want to mess with the Global EQ just want to make sure I've got the correct settings. I Currently have it set to Cab Output, is this correct for my set up?
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Cheers. I'm using my HR FRFR on stage (I will be), so not using an amp just HRPB connected to my FRFR via left mono out. Working well with my other multi fx unit. I just know the HRPB will soon be my main set up...Just not managed to get things sounding like they should, or, as I hear on some RU-vid videos. Makes me think I must be doing something wrong connections/settings wise. I've downloaded your artist pack btw, will give it a try soon. Thanks again.
Ok confused, if you set the alternative output signal to "cab input" would not that include the the last few pedals or all the pedals in the chain before the cab? You keep pointing to the top 4 pedals only and not the other two after the amp.
Ok basically how do I keep all my pedals in the chain with my amp? I want the whole rig but no cabinet so I am only using the tone of my 4x12 cab speakers only and not the tone of the cab in the chain, do I just set it to cab input? Im using my 1/4 Line outs not XLR to my rack amp and then to my physicall 4x12 cab.
Hello from Spain. What settings in alternate output i need for.1. sound directly to table mix2. sound to table mix and my real ampli, for use my ampli like monitorI´M FORGET!! THANKS
1/4 output to amp then select ALT, 1/4 or XLR output to FRFR speaker or front of house then choose Rig. Be sure the Cab/ IR is at the end of your chain.
Always? When i connected to speakers too, the cab/IR at the end?. The amp i can put where i want? THAKS FOR YOUR ANSWER, AND SORRY FOR MY HR IGNORANCE!!
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios what global settings output wise would you set it to on the headrush when going straight into a Scarlett interface ? Your videos are so helpful by the way. 👍
How do you set one output with all FX & amp to a speaker cab on stage, and have a different output take the same stuff, minus the cab, and add an IR to send to FOH?
that is what I answered in the video. XLR goes to FOH and 1/4 output goes to amp. Set the output source to Cab/IR input and put the Cab/IR at the end of the chain.
First you will want to add the FX block into your chain to use the 4CM properly. I guess if you were to use your XLR outs to run to the mixing board you could just set the XLR OUT to RIG. If you are using a real cab then I would have your 1/4 outs set to ALT rig and the output source being the Cab or IR input depending on if you are using a cab or an IR. I did live video on youtube showing how to setup the 4CM with a real amp. I would check that one out as well.
Doctor McFarland Studios thank you for your reply I've been diving in this board for days setting up midi commands and tryin to achieve unity gain between the fx block and the send and return loop on my amp. If I have any more question I'd like to contact you if that's ok I surely do appreciate your help. My name is Chad by the way. Thank you again have a good day
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios No Dr. To the PA. Guitar - HR - Console- I should use 3 channel: 1 Channel - Right 100% WET 2 Channel - Left 100% WET 3 Channel - Cab Output 100% DRY GUITAR SIGNAL Is that possible? Thank you for answering me!
If you are using a stock cab then the source needs to be cab, if you are using an IR then the source needs to be IR (1024) or which ever IR type you are using.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios in this video you have a cab ..some of your rigs just have an ir...do you have an unassigned amp hidden with the ir going into it and then using "amp output" ? I am using the M10 cap edge IR without a cab but the output source doesn't give me the option to chose IR output..
