I wonder if they open up their APK for custom software development. Would be nice as you said to tie into Gaggle or PPGPS or something. Main thing I would want is a direction/distance back to the launch point, altitude (AGL), speed really. AGL would be easy, they could have a function to let you "zero" it when you are on the ground at the LZ.
I got a chance to look at these after Ben landed (I was flying around him during this video). They’re really high quality glasses and I got to try them on and see the display. Great at that price point for sure.
I seen these and thought about trying them out. The tint, i seen some others mention, would be awesome with some transition lenses. I have a pair i use for flight and i love them, now just need the HUD added. I bet i could come up with some custom ones.
Pretty nice. Tint might be too dark though for sunset flights. Since I bought a Garmin Fenix 5Xplus wristwatch, I have lost interest in phone apps and HUD because the watch can be configured to provide all info, including a "return to home" distance with direction arrow.
In Australia, we need to fly with a Barometric Altimeter when more than 300 feet above ground level, so while aps like gaggle are great, we can't use it as a primary instrument. If these glasses will link to a Garmin watch running StuFly though, that could technically keep us legal.
yes looks good.high i have a moster 185.clutch my 22. so you started with a two blade prop and now three.what size or sizes are the props.and is there any difference? why did you change? please.
I started flying 3 years ago with Atom 80 and 2 blade 125 cm prop. When I bought the Moster 185 about 18 months ago, I decided get the larger cage and reduction so I could spin a 140 cm 3 blade e-prop. It is more power than I need for the most part. But I thought it would be efficient and smooth at cruise. I can't compare to the traditional 2 blade prop on the moster, but I have been happy with this setup.
Excellent point. Sometimes these ultralight aircraft are spinning a Rotax engine and putting out more thrust than PPG. But it could be the exact same as a powered parachute. I just act with an abundance of caution, mostly because I’m a wimp / paranoid.
Thank you for your good video, I have small question, what kind of fuel tank do you have ? I have a mcfly moster 185 and i search a bigger tank, I have a 12 liter and I want more
It’s more the wing that creates wake turbulence than the prop. Of course the prop creates turbulence, but it’s the wing tip vortices that you will feel. When paragliding at a ridge soaring site (no motors whatsoever) we can and do wake each other all the time, normally it just feels like a little speed bump, but when a big tandem glider wakes you you can take a small collapse. Just thought I’d let you of my experience with dealing with wake turbulence.
Oh and apparently syride vario’s are supposed to work with these and give you climb rate, altitude agl and more options. But then you’re purchasing another $600 vario for something that should be able to be added through software using flyskyhi or Flyxc (whatever the android one is called).
As far as I know, these glasses do not display information from a flying app like gaggle right now. I would love to see that partnership in the future.
I use XCTrack primarily. It's a bit fiddly since you have to do some file shenanigans to get the street map but once you have it set up it's pretty great. I use it on an old phone that doesn't even have my real account so I won't be upset if I drop it in flight.
The upcoming Apple glasses are truly VR. You can not see through the headset. They do have an augmented reality setting where you view the world via a camera view. But who know what other products will follow.
Great reviews, yeah with a little more data that would be an awesome tool for us! Are you able to change where the display is on the glasses or is it fixed?
Yes, I changed the location of the display on the glasses when I initially set it up. But I could only shift the display slightly (millimeters) to make sure it was clear in my field of view. I did not have the complete freedom to move it anywhere on the display.
The arms of the glasses fit well on my head without disrupting my ear cups. And the bluetooth in the glasses worked well even though my bluetooth was working with other devices simultaneously.
