I purchased this in Melbourne last year and it looked so good at my Sister-in-Law's home I thought I would fix it it up and present it to her this year. In part 2 I finish off the radio and drive to Melbourne to present it to my Sister-in-Law.... but will she like it?

Growing up in the 1950's and 60's, we had a radio in every bedroom and one in the room next to our kitchen. We listened to AM up until the mid to late 60's, when FM took over - at least for music. As a kid, I remember, every morning, during a snow storm, we were glued to the radio, waiting to hear "all public and parochial schools are closed today". Now I'm in my 70's and can't remember the last time I used a radio. By the way, your attention to detail when restoring a radio is outstanding.

Greetings from America David. Thank you for your videos. I never miss them. May I offer a tip I learned from bandersontv when working with cracked radio plastics, bakelite included. He had a bakelite TV that had a huge broken piece. What he said he figured out was to clamp the broken piece together as tight as possible where the crack almost disappears. Then he would put the runny type of superglue on the back side of the crack, and not attempt to work it in. It will seep into the crack all the way via capillary action, and stop when it meets the other side. I don't understand it either, but it will glue together plastics without any glue showing on the decorative side. I've done this, and it works. Goodday!

Hello again Dave, from Steve near Cardiff uk. Absolutely loved part 2 of the healing radio , what a wonderful gift for your sister in law. I am really addicted to your videos now they are so relaxing to watch as well as very educational. They have certainly inspired me on my vintage radio repair journey. I have just taken delivery of a Bush DAC 90a in cream in excellent condition, totally original which I am going to really enjoy restoring (recapping etc) I already own the brown version of the radio that is in excellent condition as well , the sound is really good on both of them. Sisters are such special people, I grew up with two sisters, both older than I was by.a few years. They were almost a year apart, in fact they were the same age for 2 months as it was. I lost them both a couple of years ago, and as the calendar goes, they were the same age when they passed away, both from cancer, one smoked all her life and tried so very hard to stop but never could beat. the smokes, the other stopped smoking about 2 years before she passed, her cancer was in her brain the other who smoked died of lung cancer. I quit over 18 years ago not, my doctors tell me my chest x-rays look as though I never smoked, so I guess it makes sense to stop. Both my sisters died when they were 72, my wife also died just 5 days after her 72nd birthday. Makes me a bit nervous since I turned 72 last May. Ah well, the radio turned out wonderful, I wish I had your skills and tools to do such wonderful work! I once did furniture refinishing, then crossed that over to gunstock repair and refinishing, then took the classes and got my certificate as a gun smith, of course I long ago gave that hobby up as well, not electronics are my favorite, but of late I have not done a lot of that either. I still dabble though and love watching your videos as well as a few other radio guys on the web. I guess my love for electronics gos way back, in the US Army I was in communications and when I got out I had done 8 years, worked my way from Field Wireman up to Communications Chief with my own communications Section, and also served as the Platoon Sergeant for Headquarters Platoon Company C 3rd US Infantry (The Old Guard) at Fort Myer Va, just across the fence from Arlington National Cemetery, where we were tasked with all the US Army Burials there, as well as many other ceremonial duties in the DC Area. That was a great post except for the living in the DC area, that was not great and I was happy when I was selected to go out recruiting and left the big City once more.

Well I learned something about Goat Shields. Don't paint them! They must make good contact with the chassis. Great gift for sister in law!

Hi Dave. Nice radio. I have one myself but needs a lot of work. I've found, with those valve shields that you need to solder wires to each half and to the chassis to make them be stable reliably. Also, that 100pF oscillator grid resistor was ceramic, and was likely fine. They never made paper capacitors with values that low. I hope that has been helpful. 😊

@DavidTipton101 Год назад
Hi Stuart. I have another one also, I showed it in the last video. It's in awful shape. Yes, I realised that it was only 100pF later on when I read the circuit properly and the video was uploaded. I wasn't thinking at the timer. I didn't change it in the end. Thanks 👍😃

What a beautiful looking and sounding old classic! David, as always your results are impeccable, and your abilities never cease to impress. What a wonderful gift! I loved the laser cut felt. I might need to change one of my 3D printers into a laser cutter!

Hi Gregg, thank you. The laser cutter is great for felts but I really bought it to cut backs out for radios. I have a few here to do and it cuts through thin Masonite hardboard pretty well and easily through thick cardboard. 👍🙂

Your wicked,you remind me of my step dad who got into electronics and repairing old valve radios amongst any thing electrical. He had his own electricle repair shop in the town centre Birmingham uk. He was known as the best back in the 70's,I worked in the shop taking in repairs and watched him repair stuff. He tried to explain to me how it all worked But I didn't follow that path but wished I had now. Got you on notification and enjoy all your videos and learning from them Keep them coming

What makes you different to most radio restorers dave is your attention to detail. The pointer for example, Shango would have stuck it on with some JB Weld and left it at that lol. I see your editing skills are improving too, All good stuff,
