@Michele Spring I am just passing by just to thank this video.. after 20 years of chronic back pain and a possible surgery to fusion my spine... luckily, this was one of those videos that save me from surgery. I am now 2 years pain free... a complete change on my quality of life and now moving to live and experience pain free as much as I can... Thanks so much to share your insight back then. Any time it looks like it may come back, I see this video, and I am back on track. I am now a TMS evangelist!. Still, one more time, Thanks Michele for this video post, you changed my life when I need it.

Often when I experience pain I am also feeling a lot of emotional pain at the same time. I had a thought that perhaps my brain was saying… OK, this is all you can handle emotionally, but since there is more here I’ll just put some of it in your body instead so you don’t get overloaded. If that were true I wonder how this would work.
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
What a fascinating revelation for you - I have to wonder if that's the case as well! If it were I'd have to think the same principles would still apply though- it's about processing the emotions rather than holding them in. I wonder if in a case like this something like EFT (tapping) would help you a lot to work through those emotions. EFT has been instrumental in me getting through tough emotional periods in the last few years, like my dog dying and my son getting his Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis. When I felt the wave of emotion was too great I'd tap on it (I love the guided sessions by Tapping Solutions) and feel so much better. So that may be a tool you might want to look into if you think this is the case to help stop the pain part.

So basically guilt is the problem, we need to let our feelings just be, it's avoiding our true feelings and emotions that create these unbalances, thanks Michele your very helpful!!!
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
You're welcome! And remember, it's not just guilt - it can be any emotion that your body has somehow deemed "dangerous", bad, or even inconvenient for you to feel. So be open to any of them being the culprit!

Hey, My name is Tamir I’m from Israel. I am suffering for about 6 months from herniated disk… I don’t know if this is going to help me but this video was awesome, Great way the summarize and explain this concept. You had a lot of optimism in the video which truly helps in this time of struggle, started to read the book only because of you. Keep doing a good job! Thanks :)

Hi Tamir, I have two herniated discs and I have suffered from Chronic Back Pain for 20 years, finally having a really bad episode in mid 2020 (not being able to walk!!!). I was Scheduled with a Back surgery to "fix" my Spine. I was lucky that one of my friends introduce me to TMS. Now, I am almost 1 year and a half without back pain, Cycling, running... 180º change on my life!!!... Please, check this video of John Sarno on a 20/20 US TV segment... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8jQtmSZetJM.html

This is wonderful news. 2016 broke up and life was a pain in the ass. Really loved this woman. Anyway. Started sports like crazy and ended up with back pain. Had bulging disks and pain was all over my back butt groin. Stopped sports. Felt miserable. Had anxiety disorder last year. Visited all doctors, read thousands of articles on how to cure this. Long story short. Two months ago was totally pain free. No more fears…. Was back in action. Then hit the gym and again pain came back 😞.. wow was again frustrated. And got so angry that i just accepted this. I came across this. Which sounded senseless but i believe this was it. Today is my third day and pain seemed to slowly go away. 😊. My mind will control this.

Great video! I just pulled my copy of the book of my bookshelf to reread it. I started with excruciating backpain 1-2 weeks ago. Last night it dawned on me that maybe it wasn't really my back but my mind trying to protect me from my repressed emotions. It worked for me 11 years ago so I'm glad I found your video to remind me of this. I will check out the Amazon video you mention,

This is surreal , just today dug out the same book from storage as I have debilitating back pain the same place as you and I am on the aip protocol for arthritis of the spine . ( Iv always known that that is where I store all my unprocessed emotions and especially anxeity ) When I first read it years ago I didn’t practise it as precisely as I should have ( like you !) but I’m so impressed by how you healed your symptoms... I will give it a go again . This was such a beautifully timed video . Thanks again

I agree 100%! I was having severe shoulder pain and throat tightness for months and each doctor said nothing is wrong...it’s in your head. And...they were wrong AND right. The throat tightness was followed with a diagnosis FINALLY of Hashimoto’s. The shoulder pain was anxiety and inflammation. I tell myself everyday that I am blessed and I feel good...and you know what? I do! Yes, I’m eating better, and getting treatment and being mindful...but MINDfullness really helps. Love this so much. I will definitely be researching this more. ❤️

Great job Michele! The more people communicating their journey with TMS and recovery, the better. You are contributing to the recovery of people living with TMS. I believe that as well as Sarnos books, listening to people relate their recovery is also good therapy. The brain is always listening, the sub conscious as well. It reiterates to the brain that we’re onto it and what’s really going on! Thank you for taking time to present your story. Well done.

I finally was able to embrace this way of thinking and the pain literally drained away completely in a few moments after excruciating pain for weeks.

You described exactly what I'm going through in the intro..I desperately typed in "heal my back" in RU-vid this morning and Dr Sano and your video came up. I feel like this book will be a life changer for me too. I've been working with the Joe Dispenza stuff but feel disheartened when pain comes back. The way you talked about it sounds exactly like the kind of wisdom I'm missing. Thank you!
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
Good luck! And I do want to say, even if the pain does come back, don't feel disheartened - it takes practice. Your brain is SO trained to do one thing, in this case, direct you to feel pain in that area to avoid feeling the emotion(s) and it doesn't just take one thought to change it. I think I mentioned in the video how the pain traveled throughout my body afterwards as well because my brain was very stubborn and really didn't want me to feel that resentment. So I just kept practicing feeling the resentment and telling my brain I'm ok until it eventually stopped altogether. So you're not a failure if you DO feel the pain again, it's just part of the whole process and as you accept the pain for what it is, it should (hopefully) go away. I wish you the best!!

I was a pain free adult until 2014 , One day I got a news about my mom's cancer... I was worried and anxious for months after months , I was afraid of loosing her every day and eventually lost her after few months... I developed chronic neck pain and feet pain during this period(No physical accident) which has become part of my everyday life now.. I visited many doctor's for treatment but no one has helped me till date ...I realised only in 2021 that I could be suffering from Fibro as my MRI and scans came out clean.. Some bone spurs and nothing more...I feel that emotional trauma that I suffered has manifested in the physical pain that I carry all along.. I'm not sure whats wrong with me as I am able to do every thing just right at job but live with horrendous neck and shoulder pain all round the year... Your video gives me hope ... Do you feel I could get out of this mess? Edit: As I watched your video and kept talking to my brain all this while my pain reduced from 8/10 to 5/10... I feel I have some internal healing to do.

Oooh I have put so much money into quiropractors and therapist... I am now already in the path of feeling emotions. I feel way better if I devote time to it at the start of my day, and worse if I don't and under stressed. It is still a work in progress. But even so, I am so grateful for this information that you bring in this video, because it really feels like another piece of my life puzzle. I really can't wait to be pain free and be able to do all of the things that I'm passionate about. At the moment I can't not even work yet since my health is not consistent. I feel like I'm never completely relaxed and after having a few very stressful & tragic events happened last year I feel like my nervous system is even more on edge than before, and the smallest thing makes me jump. I can't wait to read the book. I'm so grateful to have found this video! To anyone reading this, always keep believing you can heal & keep searching until you find what works for you. I'm lying here in bed at nearly 2.30am, I'm afraid to move as have been having sharp muscle spasms for last few hours related to my 4 herniated discs. I was looking for some hypnosis to listen to, to get me off to sleep and found you! I've just ordered the book on Amazon and its arriving 25th April. Like you, I'm a certified hypnotherapist and have tried everything...including just spending nearly $700 on chiropractic adjustments which hasn't helped. 😑 Although, the general ethos of the chiropractic practice is that you're holding onto trauma and I've had huge amounts of that including bereavements of very close family/friends and divorce, actual physical injuries etc. I've been like this now for nearly 2.5 years following an accident where I fell on my back. I'm on the list to see a neurosurgeon for spinal surgery and due to covid this has been delayed. However, see this as a divine intervention to give me the opportunity to explore other avenues. Again like you too, I have auto immune conditions. Thank you for sharing this...timing was perfect! It's funny too what you were saying about resenting the kids coming in from school...that resonates too as I can recall those feelings 22 years ago when my kids were younger. Light bulb moment...da da! 😁😊❤

He's nearly 40 by the way!! 😆...and I have been acknowledging any pain and doing the brain talking too by accepting the pain has come to remind me something isn't healed within and in 3 cases, the pain has disappeared. I can said as well that TMS is not only over back pain... there are a lot of other stuff that I do relate to the same process, several different type of pain and even some common diseases. Have you explore the possibility on the auto-immune disease using the TMS process?

Knowledge is king! Great info here Michele! Trapped emotions have to go somewhere, this is true even when structural issues exist. I found this interesting to think about because as you know I have a significant physical disability. And to be honest, I come at from a different direction yet arrive at the same place. I’ve learned (and of course teach others) that pain is my friend and I know that sounds strange, but I live with it daily so really being in tune with it is a godsend. Yes, lean into it, that takes mindful effort and I have several ways to practice that. Much like you said though, you cracked it open. Think of a skin boil that needs puss relieved (gross) but it is much the same. If you give it the attention and pay attention then it will dissipate (to a degree in my case). Being fearful, as you said is a very important component, especially for people like myself. Now, as for AIP - it’s been 7 months now since we met and I am still doing AIP, and yes I did experience a reduction in my chronic pain with the diet change. Mind-body and spirit connections are our natural tools. Let the exploration continue and I am glad you are feeling less discomfort.

When we have Hashimoto and we have muscle tension, pain all over the body, it may be the symptom of TMS, and not the symptom of Hashimoto. Maladaptive stress response in a brain can be a root cause of all autoimmune diseases. Over reactive nervous system leads to overactive immune system, digestive system, endocrine system, chronic pain in the joints, muscles, nerves pain. By calming down nervous system we can reverse the diseases.

This is why I thought the movie Inside Out was so brilliant!! We need to feel all of our stuff or we'll stay stuck. I'm intrigued...I'm on the same page as you, I thought I was connecting mind/body with meditation etc and will definitely look into his books. Something else that comes up for me, more of an exploratory question, after learning this and experiencing doctors telling you 'its all in your head' when explaining your Hashimotos symptoms, any thoughts? I hope that makes sense!
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 4 года назад
Oh, it makes total sense. Dr. Sarno mentioned something about that in his book about how symptoms being "in your head" like doctors say are different than this though - like I believe a lot of times doctors say that because they don't truly believe that you are HAVING those symptoms. That they are made up, "in your head" or that you're making a bigger deal of something than it really is. But these symptoms are 100% real and life altering, as you've experienced. They may be CAUSED by your mind, but you feel them all the same. So it is definitely different.

I score positive on all the TMS tests out there. I’ve had chronic aches and pains for over 10 years including shoulder pain, hip pain and back pain. However I honestly don’t think it’s TMS because I think my back pain is all down to bad posture. The reason for this is when I do exercises/stretches to straighten up my “forward neck posture” I can tell it affects the painful muscles and points in my body. Which seems obvious that it’s my posture causing the pain…
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
Maybe it's a combo of the two? Maybe your posture is causing pain but you also have underlying emotional causes as well. Have you ever tried Qi Gong? I am in the midst of my teacher certification for it because it has been so freakin helpful for me in a number of ways. I sometimes get some hip pain from sleeping in a strange position (one I don't think is TMS related and I definitely think it's from sleeping like a monkey, haha). But the stretching and repetitive motions + movement of energy from Qi Gong really helps get rid of that quickly and I don't feel it again for weeks. Just might be something to check out - Lee Holden has a great YT channel with some things to try that might help. Like this one looks like it'd be great for posture - the spinal cord breathing exercise alone is awesome and something I do every day now: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w60trhXUZr0.html

Great video and thank you. I purchased the book. But question for you, if you have no structural issues than what caused your lower back to give out?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring Год назад
Great question - it may have been just a muscle thing - there are so many different muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc in that area that converge, and that area is so sensitive. I think a muscle strain in that area is common if you don't stand up carefully, etc, especially if you're tight in other areas like your hamstrings, but typically those kinds of things go away within a few days when they happen. This one felt just like a muscle strain, just stayed FAR longer than it should have, despite doing "everything" one should do for a typical muscle strain and babying it.

@B. L. Completely understand what you are saying here. After my fusion ruined me - I was so desperate. I will tell you - I know for a fact, my brain DOES have something to do with it - even though I had the MRI from hell & was actually approved for disability the first time in front of a judge because the MRI & what happened during surgery was so overwhelming, the lawyer for Uncle Sam knew he had nothin’. Young guy & he looked at me with sympathy. But I have had my brain take the pain away during times where I simply could not be in pain (my pregnant with twins daughter was deathly ill & came horrendously close to losing her babies). My brain knew it had to push pain into the background for a period of time. It was quite amazing to experience.

LOL - part f my continued issue is evident - look at how much VALUE I put on the MRI. Not smart. The MRI means nothing, really. Studies proved that. I still need to force myself to BELIEVE it.

I kind of have, but not really in depth because I made this video and then BAM, Covid hit and I've just been trying to survive with my whole family home, lol. Not a lot of time for self-reflection or even plain old thinking! But they FINALLY go back to school in August so hopefully I'll get some time to practice this then.

I believe so - your subconscious knows what's wrong, so you just have to kind of do the whole process "blindly" - trusting that releasing the emotions will happen if you give it permission to do so. I didn't know what was causing mine at first but after going through some of the process it came to me. Good luck!

Herniated disc doesn’t cause pain by itself unless it’s pressing on nerves or other nearby structures, depending how big it is, so maybe that’s the reason for those 64% not having pain??

Perhaps, who really knows I guess? I just find it interesting for those that DO have pain, are told it’s a herniated disc, and then can get rid of the pain without surgery and using the techniques I talk about here. It’s just fascinating to me- so much we really don’t know I think!

Where are you with this process? How was it in relationship to your autoimmune disorder?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
So I haven't had any back pain since I made this video, so that's been a huge win. I also tore a bunch of the ligaments in my ankle last year during a bad sprain and after a significant amount of time for physical healing (over 12 months) was still feeling pain, so used this process to alleviate that pain almost overnight. But I haven't really still had the time or brainpower to try to use it for my autoimmune disorder just yet - my son got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes back in February and so I've spent a lot of my time dealing with that and not really paying so much attention to my own stuff save for eating well and trying to maintain my usual stress relief, movement, etc So basically, doing what has worked for me for years without trying to get too into what's behind my AI disease. I have a feeling it's going to be an emotional experience so I think I'm just avoiding it for now because I've had a LOT of emotions the last few months since my son's diagnosis and just trying to recover from THEM is hard enough, ha! But it definitely is something I want work on for sure.

Thank you for this video. I am wondering if this holds true for you now 1 year later? Also, have you applied this to other areas of your life/health with positive effects?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 3 года назад
Yes! It totally has held true for me - I haven't had any back pain ever since I learned these techniques and made this video. I sometimes feel it trying to creep up in other areas - my ankle for instance - I tore some ligaments in my ankle last year and after a long healing period realized the pain that remained had to be just like the back pain because technically I had to have healed. So I did some EFT tapping on my ankle pain and journaled about what feelings I had about the pandemic, my kids being home (not being able to work because they needed my help a lot with remote schooling, etc) - you know just all the 2020/2021 stuff and sure enough the pain went away. Sometimes I'll feel twinges of pain in my shoulder or ankle and even my back, but I stop, think about what's going on in my life and acknowledge ALL of my feelings and the pain literally just goes away. It really is incredible. Now this isn't to say I never have pain - if I truly injure something then yes, I do. But it doesn't linger like it used to, and pop up suddenly out of the blue for stupid stuff like taking a load out of the laundry like my back pain used to, etc.

I’m in my 20s and already had a major back surgery (spinal fusion) to cure my debilitating backpain. But it was a disaster and left me with more backpain! Drs and every treatment options have literally failed at this moment. I’m pretty much bed bound and drs don’t know why because there’s no more structural issues in my back. And the surgery was a success according to them aside from the fact that it didn’t help with my pain even a little. Now I’m really suspecting that it’s my brain misinterpreting the pain. Don’t know but maybe I should give it a try. Does it help with patient who already have surgery?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
I'm not an expert but as far as I know, yes, it totally would. I believe Dr. Sarno mentioned several people in his book who actually had surgery as well and were at the end of their ropes in trying to figure out the cause. It makes sense though if you think about it - if it IS your brain trying to suppress an emotion, it wouldn't matter if you had surgery or not. It just is doing what it does - so by processing through the emotion and not letting it be something your brain tries to suppress anymore, the pain would go away. It's been 2+ years now for me and zero back pain ever since I learned this, and I've heard from at least 100 people between this video and then talking to people in real life, etc that have found relief by doing this, so I totally think it's worth a try for you!

What if there really is something wrong ? Like a slipped disc ?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
That certainly can be an issue and something you want to explore with your doctor. However, one good point that Dr. Sarno makes in his book is that there aren't a ton of x-rays (or other means of checking) done on healthy backs, so it is a possibility that a totally healthy person has a slipped disk and never even knows it. It's only when you have pain that you go to a doctor, get an x-ray, and find this. So does the slipped disk actually cause the pain? For some people I'd say yes, it does. And for others, it could just be a coincidence, as they get surgery to fix the issues and STILL have the pain. I mean, there are endless stories of people having multiple surgeries and still no relief. So to me I'd try doing the mind work first and see if it helps before going through the pain, expense, and recovery of surgery - but that's definitely a personal choice.

I was so interested to hear about your comment on resentment and guilt. I'm right there everyday, several times a day and I want to interrupt this. Id love to know how you took the time to feel the emotion? I think I'd have to lock myself in the bathroom to have the peace (no child trying to climb me or ask for a snack or anything else) to be able to feel it. .. But worried child might destroy house or worse in the meantime.... Is really appreciate any insight on this. 😊

ha, seriously - taking the time is hard. ESPECIALLY now, when they're underfoot 24/7. So I did take advantage of when they were in school last year since this all happened to me right before COVID. But I actually just had another episode of pain the other day - probably more likely due to my sprained ankle recovery but I still went through the process just in case. I think the big thing to remember is that emotions process through our chemical systems in our bodies within about 90 seconds (it's just our minds that keep replaying the things over and over again) - so if I feel the need to feel the resentment or anger over something I typically close my eyes, ignore everything around me (unless there's something life threatening going on) and then let the emotion come. Sometimes I even try to magnify the feeling, to let my mind know that I'm not afraid of feeling it. I'll pay attention to where I feel it in my body - like heart rate, heavy breathing, red face, all that kind of stuff as well, because that's all that emotions really are - chemical reactions in our bodies that make us feel physical symptoms that we get scared of feeling. Then the emotion naturally just goes away after about 60-90 seconds and I can't even magnify it or feel it if I try. Once I get to that point I'll take a deep breath and then open my eyes and continue on. So the whole process takes like less than 2 minutes usually. Now sometimes this takes care of the actual emotion but the THOUGHTS surrounding it don't go away, so I'll find a few minutes to just try to sit alone and think those through and figure out if they're rational and valid, but usually even then the emotion is not nearly as charged as it was in the moment. And a lot of time it's just acknowledging things like "yeah, it sucks that you can't get 30 seconds to yourself these days without WW3 breaking out with your kids or the dog eating your shoe or whatever". And then moving on. Hopefully that helps, but yeah, it doesn't have to be some long drawn out 3 hour meditation session or anything, just a few minutes of actually letting the feelings come through!

@@MicheleSpring @Michele Spring thank you for your reply. I didn't see it until today. I really appreciate it. I think like you've described I'm able to feel the emotions at the time and let them play out. I also recognise stressful things that happen and try to take care of myself before, during and after as much as possible. Thankfully my 5 yr old is way more manageable than a year ago so I can feel a difference in my life already. The one thing I can't quite get a grip on is the back pain that I've had for for 3-4 yrs. It's not as intense as it was and I've journaled a lot. But it's chronic and always there. Only when I lean back or to the side. I just can't work out how to budge this. I have had migraines, back pains, shoulder pains that have come and gone and I've made a conscious effort to reduce, but I just can't get rid of this other. I feel sad I've had this for so long already and I'm scared it's not going despite my efforts. (I still exercise btw). If you have any thoughts on this please let me know.

@@lianneveasey9329 Have you tried EFT (emotional freedom technique - also called tapping)? I've been doing that a LOT lately after my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and it's been helping me immensely to process through ALL the emotions I've been feeling (which are numerous and big and scary). I could feel some familiar aches and pains settling in but once I tapped they released and went away. I think it's a really helpful tool maybe to get rid of those last remaining bits that have their hold on you. Brad Yates is a good source on RU-vid to check out and I've also been using the Tapping Solution app on my phone. It's a paid app but it does give you (I think) a week free trial so you can try it out and see if it helps you at all. They're just short 10-minute "meditations" where you literally tap on different acupressure points on your face and body that tell your body that it's safe to feel, process, and release certain emotions. It even works if you don't tap specifically on the emotion that you're feeling - so I sometimes do it with my kids as well on something totally unrelated to what I'm feeling, yet it still helps me feel better.

Another RU-vid rechurning of Sarno's book..... Look I see that he has helped some people but you're ignoring the basics that pain is real, it's not 'all in the mind' and cooked up 'by TMS to trick the mind'. If this was the case there would be thousands of unemployed surgeons the World over. I had shot nerves at the L5S1 joint and the rhizology sorted me. Endless pain is bloody awful but to think a book will act as some kind of silver bullet is nice in theory but Utopian in practice....

Sorry to hear you were in pain, but glad that surgery worked for you! No one is saying there isn't such thing as actual issues that cause pain. There are for sure - some people have injuries or other things that happen that need surgery and that surgery and other methods can help. 100% But then there ARE the rest of us that don't actually have anything physical wrong with us and have chronic back pain. I made that video almost 2 years ago and haven't had any back pain since. If I had a physical issue, wouldn't it stand to reason that the pain would've come back in that 2 year period?
