I admire the 1st caller for admitting that he has a tendency to lie and for sincerely wanting to change. That's the first big step on the road to change

When you're dealing with a covert narcassist you can't tell anyone that you've been mentally abused because they do a good job at hiding that abuse. So you have to live in silence.
@brightpage1020
@brightpage1020 Год назад
I’ve learned from friends who have dealt with this - it’s not about the narc. They are bad for real - that is valid… but you realize your focusing on the wrong stem of the issues ;o) You can chose to take the bait, to make a safety plan in case you need a quick exit, to sort of turn the volume down on their criticisms or complaints, to sidestep their moves and shift the patterns of the cycle like a dance.

It’s so scary to stop lying. I relate to this caller. Once I started living authentically and honestly, even about the things I was most ashamed of, I was amazed at how many people still accepted me and loved me.

The new color palette and art is working, I think it matches the tone of the show a bit more closely than the lighter scheme from before. Both are good - the darker tones match the gravity better, without being grim. Good job!

2nd caller: I understand some women may call abuse. I asked my ex not to disclose why our marriage fell apart, to protect him and my kids (my ex had sexually explicitly messaged another woman, been fired for sexual harassment, tried to set up a dating profile, watched cam girls and so on). You could argue his behaviour was abusive. I told my close friends and family but not his friends or family. Everyone thinks my ex is fantastic and does the things this caller outlines....always the first to help. So my close circle couldnt believe how he was behind closed doors. Idk, maybe im not trusting but something is off here for a divorce out of nowhere to happen and abuse be named.

Everytime you have someone from Utah or sounds Mormon.. There is so much background and underlying complexity of the Mormon social architecture/marketplace that also comes into play.. it's fascinating.. I could be wrong, he might not be Mormon, but in Mormonism it is dang near impossible to be completely honest.. There isn't any room for it. You have to leave out the bad parts or you get burned.

I was married to a man who LIED about everything ! He turned out to be a highschool dropout, no college, tried to lie his way on to the police department, he really was the definition of pathological liar. (Whether it is in a book or not) If he left the house, he was gone for hours. The story would be "oh my gosh, there was a huge accident". THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT.......it was constant and about everything. I kept thinking he would grow out of it. I left with the kids..... I discovered later the police were taking the trash from the house and I swear to this day...... sitting across the street watching him. That is what liars bring to relationships ! May he rest in hell ! Sorry for the caller but once a liar always a liar !

I dated a man who was like this. There are no words for the amount of damage they do. They literally live in another realm. It was psychologically damaging for me. I stayed past the point with him hoping he would change and it only encouraged him to continue in it. I finally had to drag myself away from him because it was making me crazy. Like literally making me feel mentally ill and every kind of insane. There was no way I could trust him for the even the smallest things and I felt unsafe with him. Totally unsafe. I’m glad that is over. I will never tolerate it again. What he needed for his inner wellness I couldn’t provide. He needed a deity to help him. I’m glad it’s over. Total nightmare. I never will forget it.

Sam, you sound young but didn’t catch it if you mentioned. Just wanted to say, though I was not pathological I used to lie consistently (like 20 years or so ago) about 1-2 things. I know for me it came naturally & I started at 18-20? Something in there. To get to the deep “why “ of it try to remember the first time or two you lied to someone. Did it bring you what you wanted? And more importantly, WHAT were those first few reasons. That’s still the reason you do it. For me I grew up in profound abusive chaos & the first time I lied it was to prevent self from being abandoned/a way to manipulate love so it couldn’t go, so it was a way to be safe essentially. But, I will say now, you gotta want better for yourself. It’s just a way to cope. If you start to love yourself & take care of your self & do things you are proud of and that give you your own feelings of deep worth and safety, not only will you stop lying but you’ll also just be proud of yourself & happier. To get myself to stop lying I had to tell myself that essentially what was happening was a physical neuronal/neural pathway signaling and electrically firing (I actually found it helpful to google video showing a neural pathway firing and moving along the nerve) off and I just had to say this is just the way the physical trigger is signaling me to survive right now but I want it to go make a completely new electrical pathway so then just know it takes repeated practice (even just a few weeks to a few months can rewire brain) // In a few seasons you can rewrite TONS. You also just have to discipline self & practice it while saying “hey internal self, this way helps me temporarily but it never did in the long run and I’ve lost a lot because of it” & then say “internal self I need to do this differently now and so I’m going to go a different way. It’s uncomfortable but I’m more aware now and I’m in control not you.” It’s hard at first but becomes a way of life. The less you use the neural pathway the less it’ll signal to use it. You can’t change the past but you can change the way you react & cope & help your body (which is disregulated) to regulate better now and for a better future. Consciously know these things. Screenshot this. Believe in yourself & love yourself enough to do this. Others have and so you can know it’s possible for you. Looking back I see as I grew my own worth & moral character I wanted to generally be a better person. Look towards that future self who hugs you for it but also, see that life ahead and how much better it is. Really see it. That’s why you’re going a new way & that’s why it’s worth it. And trust me, I’m 40 now. It’s worth it. I look back & am happy so many things of my youth lost their appeal & charge.

1st caller ~ There are reasons as to why some people lie. Sometimes just one or a few reasons, sometimes one big reason. People will often choose to get irritated or try to discredit others. Choosing human warmth in compassion is a better stance. Everyone lies. Some people lie less, some people lie more. Some people go into panic mode then lie in self-defense when they feel threatened.
