There is no respite from such predictions. How can these be predicted in advance? H5N1 is so potential what is the solution? We had so many bird flues in the past but most of them just vanished! Why is the pandemic word attached to such flues and the situations worse?

FYI #1: Mammals share bio-similar DNA and varying degrees of identical DNA. FYI #2: Humans are mammals. FYI #3: Virus adaptability from one mammalian sub-species to another is entirely dependent upon the existence of DNA that accommodates how the virus has learned to attack its original host. FYI #4: You can query any legit search engine regarding 'how much DNA do humans share with cows', 'how much DNA do cows share with birds' and beyond to dogs, etc. FYI #5: Everything of life is of DNA. Though, of a different evolutionary truth, even bananas share some DNA with humans-- yes, a search engine can gift greater understandings of genetics-- when you know the questions to ask. FYI #6: American school failure.

Human got pink eye from cow who caught it from a cow. Pink eye is very contagious. I was blind for a wk from pink eye. No parents to teach me & the jerk that wouldnt take no for taking me out for dinner rather have pink eye & wait staff. I had snot coming out of my eye & never looked sexier. Never heard from that fool again. Geez we never touched & he caught it, wait staff I could understand.
