I almost stepped on human poo on the sidewalk. People that drive cars have no idea.

Until there’s no stopping the one way ticket to Hawaii and lack of housing and shelter for the homeless people it just gone get worse. Sad.

The state homeless coordinator did not respond to the phone call. How truly puzzling. I wonder why the avoidance.

Hawaii needs to do better at taking care of the homeless and the mentally ill. If they are on drugs, they are mentally incapacitated so they need to be dealt with too. It is getting to the point where the homeless have more rights than the taxpayers. We deserve to have a safe Hawaii too.

Just let them be

Put up “No loitering” signs and “No Trespassing after hours” signs. Set up hours where the grounds are closed to the public.

"cleaning the area" means providing affordable homes for these people to rent. the cost of living in HI has skyrocketed. these people aren't living in front of the library because they want to. there is simply nowhere to go where they can afford the rent. this is a natural consequence of the housing bubble. if someone has to pay 3x more for a rental property than they did 10 yrs ago, they have to charge 3x more in rent. that prices millions of people out of the rental markets. what are they supposed to do? where are they supposed to go? these aren't bad people or criminals or drug addicts, they are just people who have fallen through the cracks of a society hell bent on siphoning all the wealth from our economy into the pockets of a privileged few. you reap what you sow. and these poor people are the unfortunate victims of someone elses greed.

Too easy to be homeless - we give them food, we give them clothes, free medical, and somebody is giving them tents- and there’s not even a sports authority any more. I feel bad for them too - but they intrude on all of us - and whats with all their trash??

State of hawaii: how do u want the tourists who visits this island carry this info back to wherever they visited from? They anticipated a paradise, now this... this is not 3WC - this is Hawaii! I cannot believe the State just let this face of downtown homelessness encampment to happen. The moment they let one stays the rest of the campers follow. Totally unsafe and unsanitary.

How do you know that they're homeless? Homeless are us citizens too what happened to aloha love each other looking out for your own hawaii born americans?

if Hawaii government would build affordable housing and additional homeless shelters instead of allowing a surf style water park when we are literally surrounded by beaches that'd be a good idea. but no. entertainment industry before actual necessity.

This is a world wide problem. It can be solved by getting billionaires to pay some taxes. This is not just Hawaii's problem. There are few public restrooms in our cities, including Honolulu and people need to pee and poo. Perhaps the portables they put up for events would be helpful. Let's not condemn the houseless, but help them. It is doable. From Oakland Ca where we have thousands of unhoused of all ages and lots of elderly vets who served their country & are damaged from it.

Now when I arrive in Hawaii and demand to be supported by the taxpayers I will have more of an edge on my fellow homeless. This is bound help because its looking like big crowds are coming for these areas. In a couple of years you locals will be whining about the "good old days" when there were only thousands of "homeless" instead of hundreds of thousands.
