Hi there, Guinea Gang! I was out of the office this week, so Ernest & Alex tried to do things again. They dropped by a pet store to grab some treats from the small pet section and saw the sad truth of the market for themselves; products for small animals are sub-par (to say the least!) because they aren't as profitable as the ‘mainstream’ pets such as cats and dogs.
Since the whole GuineaDad team is committed to producing high-quality products for small animals, we wanted to share with you all some treats we think you should avoid when shopping for your guinea pig! It's a scary thought when unsuspecting guinea pig owners, usually kids with a parent, that are drawn to the bright packaging on the shelves. I wonder how many poor Guinea Pigs have actually had their already short lives, cut shorter with these so-called 'treats' 😢. Then they buy the cages that are waaaay too small for their new pet. Oh dear, we can only pray that more people will research, research, research before taking on, not just small pets, but animals of all sizes 🙏 Superb video Guys. Love your cute piggies, and their home is pure luxury!👏😍

I have all my Guinea pigs spin and one of I didn’t even train him to do but if I say kisses! He comes running up to the door and lets me kiss his nose and then he popcorns every time I give him a kiss ☺️

It infuriates me that companies make these harmful products for piggies. They should be more informed about the animals they make treats for, like GuineaDad is.

That's brilliant! I feel they'd be a little less likely to scream for treats when you the food giver are just walking around if they associate food with the bell and not your footsteps.

Out of The Hat like the only time they really squeak is In the morning and at night because they want food but now they are ready for food and sit in front of their bowl and I don’t have to ring the bell but I still do. If they are downstairs not expecting food tho I ring it and they come running so it’s nice

We were given a guinea pig a few months ago. The lady who gave him to us also gave us all kinds of treats. After watching a few videos, I realized that though all these treats were aimed for piggies, they were really bad for them. We tossed it all and kept to the basics and he's just fine. This is very informative. Thank you!!

Mine love the Oxbow treats (veggie, carrot and dill, apple and banana). I used to do the treat sticks but stopped years ago when I read how bad they were for piggies.

Leave that honey stick out for the squirrels and birds. Same with the other seeds treats. Pumpkin seeds are safe amd most that get those is skinny pigs for their skin.

I feed my guinea pigs a lot of the treat drops and my mom wouldn’t stop buying them. She doesn’t really like using money on the guinea pigs that much. 🥺

I give my piggies 'vitakraft loftys'. They are small like pillow thingies without filling. Made of Timothy hay an with very small or no amount of sugars and fats. I give each piggie like 2 of these in a week and they love it, doesn't seems like it's too bad for them.

Thank you for leaving comment! It's always best to switch over to healthier snacks :) Seed treats are more designed for other rodents (i.e. hamsters) but companies advertise them to other small animals such as guinea pigs to sell more of them.

Fun fact: y’know how he said guinea pigs pack the enzyme to digest dairy? Humans do too! But some of us have evolved to be able to, because marketing has convinced people that milk is really good for you, when it’s not really. Also, what that means is that if you’re lactose intolerant, you’re actually normal, and us non-lactose intolerant people are the weirdos 😂

Guinea pig dad! I need help with my pigs, please urgent help. I have two pigs who are fighting. Got them both from a pet store. All they do is fight. They have plenty of room, equal housing and lots of hay for both of them. One is a skinny pig and the other is a normal guinea pig. I'm at a loss. Please help

I’m no vet, but it may help to say which sex they are, because I thought my boys were fighting But it turns out it was normal dominance behavior for 2 un- fixed male piggies. It also may help to split them for a week or so as I did. Hope this helps! Wishing you the best! Btw the chances of girl guinea pigs bonded is 80% and boys 20%.

And at first they were getting along great, but now as soon as they get around one another they fight and my house hippo Norman will rip my others hair out and it's getting bad. I have had them separated for a week as of now. I'm at such a loss at what to do next. And they are both un-fixed and not sure if this matter but we did buy them from a pet store...

@@jenniferbrowning6025 I only have female piggies, but I heard when two males fight it's usually because of hormones, which sometimes can be "fixed" by getting them castrated, so their hormones settle down a bit as well.. whoever agreed on giving you two male, not castrated piggies obviously didn't know what he was doing.. so either try and get them castrated, or do put in at least two females, else it won't end anytime soon
