Heaps canyon is a 4B R V rated slot canyon meaning it is technical, contains water, generally takes more than 1 day, and it will involve risks beyond the many risks already inherent in slot canyons. It can be beneficial to complete in one day, but our group took two, separating the days with a 3-hour rest. From start to finish, it took us 33 hours to complete. A few hours could've been saved had we worn thicker wetsuits - we stopped 4 times to build a fire and warm up. An hour was also wasted when we incorrectly thought we'd made it to the final climb. The group took off wetsuits, completely unpacked and repacked gear, and had a snack before discovering we still had a fairly significant amount of the Heaps narrows ahead of us. Completing the canyon in early June was extremely advantageous; the high water levels made many of the normally strenuous keeper potholes fairly reasonable to escape.

Huge shout out to Tom Jones for the initial beta and helping us out with the gear we needed for a successful send. For those of you interested in descending Heaps, this is a friendly reminder that between the four of us descending we had hundreds of other canyon descents leading up to this trip that left us feeling prepared and competent for the journey down Heaps. This is not a beginner friendly canyon and deserves the respect of anyone and everyone considering a descent. Thank you for taking the time to watch our video!!!

Absolutely incredible editing! Loved the narrative mixed with music, especially the gear list at the end with the schedule!

Absolutely incredible narrating given the strenuous circumstances ;) The free version of iMovie isn't too shabby.

correct me if i’m wrong but did you bring all that sleeping gear just to get a total of 3 hours of sleep? i would’ve just brought baselayers and a puffy rather than haul all that junk. maybe a pad if you couldn’t use other gear to insulate yourself from the ground.

Going this weekend. Did you guys filter any of the water? Was it good. You took 12L of water for the group or a single person? This video is awesome and so much good info thanks. Did you feel like you needed anything or wish you didn’t take anything.

Amazing! Yes we used iodine tablets to filter water and also a life straw as backup - we brought 12L total to start with, not per person. Pothole escape tools are a necessity, and we should have brought more water as there are very few, if any, spots that will provide treatable water (plenty of dead mice floating in the water). Wishing you luck!

@@kennashort8166 awesome thanks. Do you think are 7M wet suits are over kill and we should bring 5m? We are staying the night before we get wet. And then finishing Sunday.

@@curt143 Sorry, didn't see this until now. Hope you made it through! (And hope you decided to go with 7M wet suits...that water is painfully cold)
