The Narrows hike is world-famous for a good reason. The dramatic scenery of thousand-foot sandstone cliffs, sometimes only twenty feet apart, is awe-inspiring and beautiful. But with all the information available, planning the hike can be intimidating. So in this simple guide, I’ll cut through the fluff and make it easy for you, taking you on a “best-of” self-guided hike to the famous Wall Street section of The Narrows.

Thank you for not making the video about mostly you like many other youtube videos. Some of the videos have very little about the title and way too much about themselves. You are the exception. Nice!

How can you enjoy the beauty of your surroundings when everyone around you is just snapping Insta photos and making all kinds of noise? I don’t know if I’d enjoy doing this very crowded hike but I’m glad you still took the time to showcase it on your channel.

Yea it's one of those things you do once and move on. I did it on my first visit to Zion and haven't been back at the Narrows until I shot this guide. It's pretty but not so fun with the crowds.

Was thinking of doing this hike but I have a 7 and 4 year old and the more research I do, this does not seem like a good idea, what do you recommended?
@Hikingguy

I have an 8 year old and wouldn't bring him if the water was high. If it was low, going up for 30 minutes or so would probably be fine.

Why didn't you go all the way to big springs?

I wanted to make a more accessible guide for a wider audience that had a shorter distance and skipped the deeper sections. Maybe I'll make a vid for Big Springs next time I'm up there.

I did this hike Sunday 26th late afternoon and it was very crowded. I didn't go all the way to Wall Street. I got to just bit after mystery falls and turned back bc it was getting late. Water was cold, about knee and waist high some areas. Don't go on holiday weekend since hard to find parking.

I would set aside time to go to the visitor center and talk to the rangers for the latest conditions and recommendations. First week in Nov is usually transitional and can go either way.

What a spectacular place on the planet! I am lucky to have seen Zion and this trail. One of the wonders of the world. I enjoyed seeing your great photography and feeling the coolness of the canyons, the delicacy of the green plants, the spectacular rock formations. What a place! A stone cathedral. I tried to hike down from the top - 17 miles of wet rocky terrain in late Oct years ago with my boyfriend. Bad idea. I aborted it before starting. Down below it was 75F - 80F. Up on top of the mountain it was 35F at 7 am. The water was ICE COLD. There is no way you can hike even one mile in those water temps, you will get frostbite on your wet toes. The stupidest decision I made was to believe my BF when he said he had done this trail before and it was doable. He had not even prepped for it, and he had lied. He was the worst companion to take on a trail like this, a rank amateur and me a novice to this trail and not an experienced hiker. After this episode, he was the Ex BF. He put my life in danger as well as his own. If you want to hike this, do it from the bottom up and keep track of time. It will get cold and dark very early due to being in a chasm. Get out before 3 pm and give yourself 1 hr margin till 4 pm. Start early, leave early. If you want to do the whole trail from the top down: Drive is 2 hrs by car starting at 5 am and reaching the top at 7 am. If you abort the hike, it is 40 miles by foot downhill to town. There may not be another car coming up that way again for hours or days. The top is a crater, so no sunlight till 11 am. So you are freezing cold in the air, and freezing on your feet. There is no cell phone reception in the canyon nor on the top of that crater ringed by mountains. You cannot call up a car or 911. In warmer weather, there is flash flood danger, and that means rapidly rising water, a river of raging mud carrying logs and debris that will knock you unconscious, and walls too steep to climb. You risk your life. No cell phones to save you either. The entire path is strewn with rocks and pebbles, so very tiring for your ankles and knees. They will hurt and weaken. That is when you trip repeatedly and hit your hips and head. Do not underestimate this rocky road. One mile is very exhausting. Imagine 17 miles of this! Water all the way down. Some parts are neck or waist high. So you need dry packs and swimsuits and sandals. You will be wet and cold, and have to float your stuff on the water while you swim thru. God help you if there is a flash flood in these areas! The car that drops you on top of the mountain is gone. There may not be another car for hours or days if lucky. Once it is gone, it is gone. You are alone there in the wilderness freezing. Death is a constant companion in nature. It only takes a few stupid moves or carelessness. Pack a space blanket, visor, sunglasses, water, portable water filter, heater packs or handwarmers and fuel, flares, Satellite communication devices, fire starter, food, warm jackets, 2 wool socks, sandals, down booties, warm beanies, gloves, dry sack for backpacks, waterproof matches, mirror for signaling, candy bars, jerky, and so on. Go with 1-2 experienced hikers. Know that 7 EXPERIENCED hikers died from a flash flood in these canyons. KNOW your travel companions- some are blowhards that boast but are not survivalists. Every member of your team needs to be reliable. You are as weak as the weakest member. You enter this canyon, you take a huge risk. Crowds are better than no crowds. Take every precaution you can. Nature does not care if you live or die. You forget one thing, you are in danger. You forget 2 or 3 things, you die.
