Radiation therapy (or radiation oncology) is the medical use of ionizing radiation to treat cancer and control malignant cell growth. Radiation therapy is commonly combined with other modes of treatment for cancer, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy. Radiation therapists should be able to think critically, work with computers, and be able to work on a treatment team. Patient care and empathy are also important assets.
The Radiation Therapist works under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist in treating malignant and benign diseases using various ionizing radiations. Responsibilities include following prescribed treatment plans, maintaining accurate records, and providing care and support to the patients and their families.
The profession requires judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to work accurately and quickly in a stressful environment. Therapists are highly skilled professionals, who are certified at national and state levels to provide patient treatments under the supervision of a physician specializing in Radiation Oncology.

Wait me too😭 I think I’m leaning more towards RT because I can’t deal with all the stress nurses go through ( not saying RT isn’t stressful) but the environment seems a bit more chill.

So do you have to go to Radiographic Technologist school before you can go on to the others like Radiation Therapy or CT/MRI? Or are these all separate 2-4 year schools? No one mentions this part.

Yes, you start with RT school and the rest are built upon that through OJT. The only exception is sonography which is a completely separate program.

ThomsT Depends on where you live honestly. Luckily the pay is pretty phenomenal compared to many careers and are pretty standard across the board so you can always relocate to a new area. Here in Las Vegas we are 50th in healthcare and have a huge lack of medical personnel .

What type of laptops were commonly used. Would you recommend mac or windows based? My daughter will be studying Radiation therapy in the fall. She finished her Associate's while in high school this year, so it's mainly her upper classes and clinicals that she will need. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
