The B&W 805 D3 seem to have more body and weight than the 805 D2's. The piano key register did sound more accurate on the 805 D3's. Both are fine sounding none the less.
Can you guys provide some hints regarding the optimum setup of a pair of B&W 805 D2? Distance to listener, inbetween each box, towards (back&side) walls as well as the degree/angle of turning in?
Thank you for this demo. The D3 are clearly superior and even on RU-vid using good quality IEMs one can hear they produce an unusually natural and refined sound that justifies their cost.
Quick question, in my system I have PC/laptop as a source and a rotel RSX 1550 as the DAC/amp. In order to get the best out of the Hi Res audio content, by connection via HDMI provides the best results? But more importantly, should or could I be connecting something beween the RSX and Laptop that would provide a better sound to my speakers? Can you explain how this is setup up as I cannot see very well.
The D3 has less chestyness in the mid bass. Mids sound a bit more up front and overall sound is a bit more airy and liquid. Cabinet coloration seems lower as well. Yes noticeably improved but how much more do they cost? For once I'd like to see some improvements without a price increase.
Hello, How do you compare B&W 805 D3 to Kef Reference 3? If I were to use two sealed subwoofer with B&W 805, would this sounds as good or better than Kef Rererence5? Thanks.

I’d consider the classification subjective. One example of the Sound you could say you would be seated closer to the source vs being seated farther away in a live performance there are differences but no less both great
D2 sounds good, very natural. D3 sounds a bit more transparent, and feels like D3 goes both deeper and higher. D3 sounds more open. D3 feels more accurate here.....i tried to listen with earphones and on my sound system....but in a few days here, I'll try to listen to this video with 805's hooked up to my system:)....the Nautilus ones....gonna drop the second post later:)
Bojan Bijelic headphones are arguably better. Your 805s will also have your room sound, making it harder to hear a difference. I find my headphones are better for this than my older b&w or other speakers. I’d actually love a speaker to sound as good as these headphones but that’s another story :)
Anybody listened to the 803D2 vs 803D3? I currently owned the 803D2 in Cherry with a matched pair of 805D2. I love those speakers. I always thought if I were to upgrade it would be the 800D2 or 800D3, but the new look of the 800D3 hasn't grown on me yet. Sound wise how significant is the improvement if there is any?
nicely done video. 2 series sound great but listening through open back headphones the 3's seem to expand all the way up to the ceiling. kind of surprised I can hear that on RU-vid but excellent job.
Why people that is showing this kind of speakers are playing classical music? I would like to hear how this speakers perform with music with heavy bass,
#1. the volume was changed. #2, the sensitivity is different. #3. there's almost no difference. the D2's are from when? 09? so did B&W suck as designing speakers from 1966 until the D3? is that what they're trying to say?
What are you trying to say? Have the manufacturers of cars sucked at making them from 1808 until last year? Everything is improved including your computer or phone. I'm sorry, perhaps you're still using a 286 or Stromberg Carlson? Volume level is overrated. Most people can tell the better speaker if the volume is at a normal listening level regardless if one is 3 or 4db louder.
I will be placing an order for the 805 on Saturday, I already have a system with KEF ls50 in a different room and plan to used identical amps and cd players with both systems. Its going to be interesting, if not gutting if the 805 are not significantly better than the ls50.
I guess to you everything sounds just like your own eardrums. so? as long as everything is held constant, look for the relative changes in sound, and you can deduce which differences are responsible by the change in speaker. since you're intimately familiar with your Macbook Pro speakers (since everything u ever hear on youtube goes through them), your brain will compensate for the relative differences to the real-world and deduce what it can, the more you have listened to hifi systems both in real life and online, the more accurate and useful a picture you will derive of the original sound in the room. these youtube videos of high-end audio are great, use them wisely for what they are (e.g. if you have your eye on a speaker, you can listen to it in dozens of systems on youtube, you will figure out the house sound pretty quick and decide if you want to explore further), I wish they had been there years ago when I traveled endlessly to showrooms and living rooms to audition systems, would have saved a lot of time.
If you think evaluating and comparing the subtle and nuanced performance of high end loudspeakers over RU-vid then have at it and more power to you. I've listened to a lot of speakers over RU-vid and the all sound like my Macbook speakers. YMMV
I've gone to RU-vid whenever a new speaker is introduced or the Video is a review or description of the speaker. Usually these videos include some audio of the speaker...so in the course of finding out more about the speaker I usually do hear it being played....and I must say they all sound just like my Macbook Pro speakers.
Why do you listen to your MacBook speakers? Why are you watching this video? If you can't tell the difference between speakers in a RU-vid video, do all dog barks sound the same as your MacBook speakers? Do all male voices sound like your MacBook speakers? You're confusing the tool you are using to listen, with the thing to which you are listening , apparently because they are both speakers.
Deepest low bass and maybe (slightly) more midbass on D3. Otherwise same excellent sound. A D2 + 2 BK xls 200 subwoofers (60 hz crossover point) is a much much better deal.
Doron Kavillio good, you’ll be hearing part of the off axis response which is important in any speaker design. If it sounds decent off axis then it won’t be interfering as much with the direct sound
I liked the D2 at first but I started listening to the low note @ 4:03 on the D3 has sooo much color compared to the D2 @ 0:35, just beautiful lows and mids in the D3, and very natural sounding high end, the D2 started sounding cheap compared to the D3 after a number of listens lol.
I noticed the difference in the low notes too, more harmonically rich on the D3. After a few listens, it becomes clear that the D3 is superior on low, mid and high notes. I use Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO.

Unglaublich. Ein seriöser Klangvergleich ist nur LIVE möglich. Was für ein sinnloses Video. Da gehe ich zu einem erstklassigen B&W 800 Händler oder zum B&W Fantreffen und dann kann ich mir eine Meinung bilden. Nebenbei erwähnt klingt die neue D3 um Lichtjahre besser wie D2. Ich habe nicht mal ne Minute dazu gebraucht...
They definitely look better and in most ways sound better. I do feel the D3 sounds slightly cleaner in the treble but suffers in depth department and sounds less natural. It might be due to the heavily tailored frequency balance. Overall I agree with you.
its because they are gen 1 products. Never buy gen 1 in anything because if there is something the manufacturer can do to improve the product they will leave it out for gen 2 or gen 3. Its just good business to do so.
NO way anybody can tell anything on a PC I dont know why they put these up on you tube apart from to look at the speakers. You need to be in that room listening properly, anyone who has a monocum of knowledge in HiFi will know this.

this test and demo is utterly pointless. .... who buys these and has a room like this? the most people got its 4m by 3m room. ...without the wall defused.
Shame on you. The only way to compare speakers is to be in the room! Why not just record a conversation of your impressions? Btwn youtube mp3 compression and scale-down, the lower quality listening environment of a laptop, and that most of us are using speakers of lower quality of the one's you're comparing, this is no way to properly compare anything.
B&W 800-series in general sounds shit. Thin sound, no bass, no fun-factor. They just look beautiful, otherwise they are just complete shit. Dali for half the price are so much better sounding. Clearer and heavy bass.
Hypercube1729 yeah...of curse...not... i have an old 804s...there is no lag of bass! i must turn the bass a little bit down ~ 3db if there is no bass, you or your loudspeakers have the wrong position room acoustics are also very much importand with such an high level speaker...to get all the details in the music...if there is to much echo you wont hear nothing... the biggest benefit of b&w speakers is the stressless music playback.
