804 has slightly more bass, but the voice is there, right in front of you. the midrange fast continuum is just, by far, the biggest improvement over the last 20 years. diamond tweeter is awesome, rohacal bass cones were awsome...but these midrange drivers are the last step for a perfekt midrange. everything sound much more lifelike, more real, like its in the room.
I completely disagree. The 804 sound thinner in the mid range almost sharp. Not natural. The 805 is more relaxed in the mid range and sound more real. I would venture this is due to the 805 having a larger 6.5 vs the 5 driver. Notice that the 802 goes to a 6 inch so in theory the 805 with sub would be closer to the 802 than the 804 plus sub
@@massiada000 Can’t argue with your sonic preference, however I disagree technically. The 805 Continuum cone is also an incorporated woofer, so unique in the range. It has at least an inch or so of rubber around the circumference to allow it to move for low frequencies which increases the diameter. The 804 has 5 inches of pure midrange, and the speaker is 3-way with better separation. That’s what most commenters are hearing. 802 is also 3-way. These are both great speakers in any case. Would love to compare to D4, but the prices are now ridiculous imo.
Obvious bookshelf vs full range speaker comparison. My conclusion for my situation with a tube amp? Full range speakers all the way man. You just lose too much otherwise. Based on this sample mind you...I'm off to try more!
804 the sound get's fuller and more efforless. I have 707 S2 the smallest cheapest 1k seven series and a DB4S and it's good it's really good but it doesn't sound like a fullrange speaker it sounds like good bookshelfs and a good sub but not the perfect blend. If I could go back I would have picked up a 703 or 804 instead but I didn't know and it's a lot of money.
I was thinking the same thing. In the appropriate environment a small speaker can be just as good, if not better, than a larger one. That said, I've been craving some floorstanders for quite some time :p
