The only problem with foam earplugs is that no matter how hard you roll them, they are fully expanded before getting them to your ear, let alone trying to insert them.
I was having the same problem but what I found to work is squeezing the end and then shoving it as far as I could in, then twisting it further instead.
Sounds like you got cheap foam they’re more like sponges than memory foam. Good quality foams actually take too long, and you have to keep them pressed for 30 seconds, which can be annoying
my issue is i can no longer hear anything. sounds all muffled. been changing brands and what not. i've just opped out to just using 1 ear and rotating until i can find something. but i am putting them in correctly as you discribed.
