it takes getting used to, once I fell for it I realized its the best voice out there, true visionary. I love the double layered vocals, like 2 different people out of 1 voice
+Modest Mouser I wish these were the music videos on tv back when MTV music videos was popular, and I wish I knew modest mouse back when. your videos make me very 'I wishy' but it's alright. the dramamine video made me think of Ohio, if you haven't already made a video for ohio you should, I'd love to see what you come up with. these two videos if watched connected me to the song more than I remembered I could... op had a very solid point, ears seeing... that next level shit. but you did it, you put people on the next level of seeing/hearing/feeling music. great video and great post OP
you're a goddamn genius pal, that shot of the buffalo running, with the rewind in time with the vinyl scratch, at 2:12 completely captures the aesthetic of this song, big respect keep it up.
Lachlan Hargis ie: that line is pretty much a direct quote from "Something Happened" - by Joseph Heller, a masterpiece of unreognized proportions...check it out, if a reader...prob an accident, I dont see Issac & crew plagiarizing.
+SomeCallMeMrGrandview I remember a very similar line in the song Pink Bullets by The Shins. In their re-wording, it's, "The years have been short, but the days were long." Whether these "similarities" are accidental or on purpose, doesn't ultimately matter. Art is really just an ongoing conversation of humanity-at-large. Similar ideas inevitably crop up over time naturally, or get recycled: called back, re-worded, re-purposed, even "stolen." Like Picasso said, "Good artists borrow, great artists steal." Great art is great art. And great art can do what it damn well pleases lol.
This song is awesome. The guitar reminds me of racing nagging thought, the bass line slugs along like depression, and the drums sound janky, yet fitting to the mood of the song. Modest Mouse, my favorite band without a doubt.
They're really good @ capturing emoting, feelings, moods & intuition in their instrumental. Love em, one of the cleanest sounding grunge sounding bands I know
I love the loose rhythm section with that "nagging" riff (great word to describe it) cutting through. But my favorite part of this song is the masterful lyrics.
practically moves me to tears... It's not just the fact that the song has the word buffalo in it, this video just seems to fit every aspect of the song as if the video was made for the music in the first place or vice-versa.
After being introduced to them 13 years ago, I swear I still rock this song like it came out yesterday. Saw their show last month and nearly cried when it ended. Don't ever stop rocking, Modest Mouse!!!
The days go by so slow without you by my side anymore yet the months go by so fast. Seems like 8 months ago was yesterday and you were right next to me now it's more like strangers you and I. I don't know if you would ever see this out taste in music never matched up all the time but I love you Ashante. Still do.
@@rockyevans1584 you’re actually wrong. When you google the phrase, modest mouse is the only thing in the results. Plus I’ve never heard it til I heard this song.
@williamdavid9272 try getting some social interaction, common phrases aren't exclusive online. My grandparents on both sides said this to me when I was under 10, I'm 36
@williamdavid9272 when it comes to vernacular, anecdotal evidence reigns supreme. I'll just assume you think modest mouse informed my grandparents and everyone else I've heard say this phrase. Appreciate the laughs broski
I always forget about this song and then I randomly come across it in a time in my life when I absolutely need to hear it. A beautiful song that most can't comprehend.
Me and my partner had our relationship ending argument while this was playing. Modest Mouse has always been there for me in a funny way. Funny how the years go fast and the days go so slow!
Dude I feel the same way when I watch the edit the sad parts video. All of these videos fit sp perfect and capture the whole spirit of whatever song its about
Oliver Black Not the song? Lol... Though the video certainly complements it. In fact, all the fan made Modest Mouse videos I've seen are fucking fantastic. You'd think they were professional/official.
I think (but probably don't) finally understand the lyrics. Issac is describing a kind of tug-of-war I guess between the brain and the heart. The heart causing (emotional?) misery to the brain out of spite and bitterness for something the brain caused I guess. It's heavy.
Dunk Danny in scripture and otherwise the heart has been long regarded as the emotional center of a person. Brain = logical/factual center ; Heart = emotional center. And whether you're aware of it or not the two are in constant competition.
Justin Sullivan Yeah. Its being used metaphorically used here. “The days go slow but the years go fast” kind of emphasizes this phenomenon where emotion (the heart) can distort reality (cook the brain).
Man, what a great video! Thank you for putting this and all the others together. I think they are each a perfect video for the song. I love how each one has the lyrics front and center - one of the most important and easily lost part of any Modest Mouse song. Fed to you one word at a time is even better... The mood, content, all spot-on. If you are taking requests, I would kill to see "Trailer Trash" or "Doin' the cockroach".
Worst song to hear when you're ~19yo driving through the countryside at 4am, feeling somewhat suicidal...... But the tune is so good you decide to stay on the road....
modest mouse is about 30 years my senior and they have gotten me through every stage of life, how are we all not connected, every single beautiful soul that sees this,we all feel it in our own way and thats why we all stopped here, right on!
This song changed my life. It changed what I thought music could and should be. My brain's the weak heart, my heart's the long stairs. The days go so slow... But I was convert when I was about 14 years old and heard a clip of them on the radio. It was Tiny Cities, but then they also played this song, and I melted forever.
You seem to have done all the awesome Modest Mouse songs that people only ever get to listen to on their own. It would have saved me a lot of time finding gems like these if these were all up on here when I was 12.
Full lyrics Slow walk, it's land mine It's coal mine, it's a bad thought On the way to God don't know My brain's the burger, and my heart's the coal I'm trying to get my head clear I push things out through my mouth, I get refilled through my ears I get refilled through my ears I get refilled through my ears I'm on my way to God don't know or even care My brain's the weak heart, and my heart's the long stairs My heart's the long stairs, my heart's the long stairs Inland from Vancouver shore The ravens and the seagulls push each other inward and outward Inward and outward In this place that I call home My brain's the cliff, and my heart's the bitter buffalo My heart's the bitter buffalo We tore one down, and erected another there The match of the century, absence versus thin air On the way to God don't know My brain's the burger, and my heart's the coal On this life that we call home The years go fast and the days go so slow The days go so slow, the days go slow On the way to God don't know My brain's the burger, and my heart's the coal I'm tried getting my head clear I push things out through my mouth, I get refilled through my ears I get refilled through my ears, I get refilled through my ears I'm on my way to God don't know or even care My brain's the weak heart and my heart's the long stairs My heart's the long stairs, my heart's the long stairs Inland from Vancouver shore, the ravens and the seagulls push each other inward and outward Inward and outward In this place that I call home My brain's the cliff, and my heart's the bitter buffalo My heart's the bitter buffalo We tore one down, and erected another there The match of the century, absence versus thin air Absence versus thin air On this life that we call home The years go fast and the days go so slow The days go so slow
I hate that my channel got deleted for making awesome lyric videos like this one. In other news, I saw modest mouse play this entire album live in Chicago last week. It was incredible. So thankful!
