So very glad that you checked this version out. Both Ann and Nancy with the wind blowing their hair, hotter than hot. That long guitar solo intro by Nancy proves just how versatile she really was/is. Even after all these years, Ann still blows me away with her vocals and stage presence.
This is great because it's very early Heart, you don't really find a lot of this type footage from the 70's and it really showcases Nancy's talent and skill. It's just so good to see this old footage.
There ya go...to me two of the best. Ann's fabulous vocals and Nancy's fantastic guitar work plus, of course, others members too. Great job Shawn...🎤🎶🇨🇦🇺🇸
During their first 3 album tours, I saw Heart 7 times. Friends of mine couldn’t understand why, but seeing them in their “prime” was worth all of the memories !! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Keep in mind that this is a band that developed their stuff playing Led Zeppelin covers in Seattle clubs in the early/mid 1970s. Small wonder they got so good. I remember seeing this video in 1979. They were really at their peak. I got to see them live in 1980 at the Sacramento state fair in Calif.. Nancy wasn't a fantastic guitarist (she never plays lead) but she could play really well and had a great stage presence, and like her sister she was beautiful as can be. That helps with popularity , like it or not. Their music? The first four albums are top shelf, every one of them! When the girls broke up with their band mate boyfriends the music changed drastically, beginning with their "Bebe Le Strange" album in the early 1980s. The songs became less complex and more like basic rock. Something wonderful was lost but they still made some good music.
No one could "manhandle" a guitar like Nancy Wilson! She was so much fun to watch, she couldn't just play AND stand still, she had to move! High leg kicks, on her knees, bending to-and-fro, hip-bumps, she was just incredible! The very first generation of the female version of the video game "Guitar Hero" used Nancy and her moves as the female rocker Avatar. The quintessential performer!!!
Heart was so way ahead of its time. Ann Wilson's presence and voice is intoxicating. Back at the beginning, their music was considered by many to be Bohemian. Same with Fleetwood Mac. I am so lucky that this was the music I listened to in High School. The 70's really did have the best music. All I knew at the time was everything was great. Didn't have the perspective I do now. What makes so much of this music so special is it's stood the test of time. Important litmus test.
What a fun reaction. And I never get tired of seeing that. It's just so good in all the right ways. And I did see them back then, and that's how I remember it. They were so damn good. And so damn cool.
Heart is one of those bands that literally had like over 20 top 100 hits... seriously.. this concert was from 1977 I think... they started in the late 70s, made it big in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and the early 2000s... if you get a chance, do yourself a huge favor, and watch 2 videos.. led zeppelin stairway to heaven.. live from 73 or studio.. then Heart was asked to play stairway to heaven in front of zeppelin when the members of zeppelin were being given the Kennedy center honors.. maybe do both versions in one reaction... incredible... thanks... Great reaction.
Hi Shawn, This is what we are talking about! This is THE version! The video needs rescuing but the intensity is off the charts. All this in a windstorm in Japan! Glad you enjoyed! I’ve been requesting a young artist previously but now we got this. She covered Crazy On you as a short video on “I”. I have it on RU-vid because it was used in a created homage video. So the inset box is Tori Holub as FOUR members of Heart performing Crazy On You. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w8prfGSinRk.htmlsi=PlpOJxpLu2rl5gHl Tori is NOT even know for covering ❤ and I think this Short is amazing. What she is known for is covering another act from the 70’s. That’s what I’m leaving as a possible reaction if you want to see what she’s really good at. The title of the song is the give away. So here with her collaborator James Wilkas is their cover of We’ve Only Just Begun. Heard of this song, Shawn? I think you reacted to the original. Now here’s a cover from 2024. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J95lfJqo9VY.htmlsi=2V14dDuOvQN9yhHe I hope you consider this. Thanks for your time, Joe
Every time I hear the intro it gives me chills such an amazing talent in Nancy Wilson along with outrageous vocals from her sister. No wonder they are such an institution in Rock music. Great song from a great time to grow up in.
We are blessed with “vintage” footage! Heart is a must see multiple views because they get better with aging. Heart’s Rock Hall Induction concert is FIRE!
Great reaction, Shawn! While you are enjoying some music by Heart, I would most highly recommend you react to their cover of Led Zeppelin's song "The Battle of Evermore". Not only is it a great song, but it is one of the few songs I am aware of that shines the spotlight on Ann as a musician as well as vocalist and Nancy as a vocalist as well as a musician in the same tune!! You won't regret it if you give it a try sometime!!
@ShawnSalvadori some may say the sound quality isn't as good on this video ... but for the bad ass-ness pov, this one is the definitive version of this song in my opinion. As for Heart, for those of us who were lucky enough to see them when they were in their prime, they are every bit as good as what you hear them here. My memory of them is at one of those mega concerts. The opening act was Sammy Hagar. Followed by Blue Oyster Cult. Headlined by Heart. The thing is, it started to rain as BOC came on and they stopped their set for a while. When Heart came out, it started to downpour like crazy. Did they stop? Hell no! Ann said screw it, they played. And they f'n killed it.
Ann and Nancy are both "blue checks" on Facebook and they've been updating a lot lately. They're touring together again and separately - Ann with her group "Tripsitter" and Nancy with "Nancy' Wilson's Heart". Nancy also spent a year or so touring and playing with Styx and there are a lot of vids here on RU-vid of Nancy singing her songs and Styx songs during their shows. The sisters have stayed busy, without a doubt.
They are both still performing to this day and although Ann's voice isn't what it used to be (and who's would be??), they're both still awesome. You can also find Nancy sitting in with various bands and vocalists performing Heart's hits and she can still rock out with the best of them. Her solo album Live at McCabe's Guitar Shop is a great listen to, just Nancy and her guitar singing beautifully.
I wish someone would check out some of their a little later stuff, like from "Bad Animals" or "Brigade" or "Desire Walks On". Just as amazing as the earlier stuff.
This is about the best video of this song. The only thing better is seeing them do this live, I did in '77 I believe this from '78. 5his is also part of a longer video where the band is backstage before this performance. Hey, I think I said that!
Regarding the “extra enjoyment” coming from your eyes, I thought that was great, actually. I got a bit of a lump in my own throat watching you, close to fifty years later, as you continue to discover just how great these two sisters were in the 70s. They’re still pretty great now, I’m learning, but back then they were something else entirely, weren’t they?
This video is not all that good because we can tell that Ann's vocal chords are tired. You can hear her grasping for air while she sings. She still sings good but you can tell she's tired because she gets a little pitchy from time to time. She must have been tearing it up on the song prior to this one
