Of course, many below will mention how HEART loved LED ZEPPELIN, and 35 years later, in honor of them, HEART sings a rendition of STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN in front of LED ZEPPELIN - and is considered one of the finest tribute renditions ever - AND it will shed a tear or two on how moving it was to them, LED ZEPPELIN, and the audience at the time. Highly recommended to watch.
Considering how much these two appreciate Zeppelin, I'd say it's a must for them to check out that performance. I've watched it many times, and it still moves me to see Jason Bonham on drums.
Kennedy Center Honors takes it to a WHOLE nother LEVEL!! Love it as much as the original-and that's saying something!🔥 (edit) I think they should also react to Jack Black's introduction about Led Zepplin too!!!👍🏻 He nailed them!
She still has a great singing voice. Check out her performance of Stairway to heaven at the Kennedy center honors with honorees Led Zeppelin watching.🎶👍🏽
I met my husband in 1976. He had the bluest eyes I had ever seen. He invited me home for the weekend & I never left. He was the Magic Man. I lost him in 2019 after 43 years ❤
@@willo8794 But you will always have 43 years of loving memories. And if you're like me, certain songs bring back those memories. They put a warm feeling in your heart❤. I bet Magic Man does that for you. You're A Diamond Sparkling In The Sand by Tower Of Power does that for me. Best wishes. 🙂
One of the greatest female voices in rock. Btw Midnight Special now has their own RU-vid channel and it’s already packed with amazing live performances. They have excellent audio quality too. I’m not sure if they’ve uploaded everything yet. Great source of live music!
Heart sang Led Zeppelins Stairway To Heaven on The Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin in 2012. LZ was there watching in their older years & it was so good to see!!🎶 Robert Plant & Ann-Wilson (lead singer) are-really good friends & Heart used to be nick named "Little Zep" because they did a-lot of-Zeppelin covers🎶🎸 Heart is sisters Ann & Nancy (guitarist) Wilson &-are still rockin' today🤘🎶
The sisters of Heart Ann and Nancy Wilson... powerhouse group out of the 70's that was very underrated IMO .... great catalogue ... another rabbit hole to enter.. thanks guys!!
It's very likely you've both heard Barracuda before, but the performance official video of it is fantastic. Magic Man is also great as well as Rockin Heaven Down. Anne and Nancy Wilson are icons and still out there doing it.
As incredible as her voice is right here, she only got better with age. It's mindboggling. At 62 years old, Ann Wilson delivered one of the greatest vocal performances in all of music. As far as I'm concerned, until I see another female rock vocalist outdo that performance, at that age... Ann Wilson is the one, and only, Queen of Rock.
Howard Leese was the guitarist, who also played keyboards on certain songs. He was who you saw on the left side of the stage. Roger Fisher was the other guitarist on the right side of the stage, playing the Les Paul Guitar. The bassist, to the left- center of the stage is Steve Fossen, the drummer was Mike DeRosier, and of course Ann Wilson (Vocals) and Nancy Wilson (Acoustic Guitar) rounded out this line up. I'm a bigger fan of their mid to late 70s songs, so check out "Barracuda", "Straight On", or "Magic Man".
I think they were still fugitives when this was filmed. Well, I should say Ann and her boyfriend were. They really weren't well received in the states until later in the 70's because of Mike's Fisher's draft dodging. The whole band moved to Canada to avoid the legal issues and a chance of others being drafted. I could only imagine how much bigger they could have been if they had early radio airplay. That was their best and I still feel it is today. Kind of makes me laugh seeing the band was first called Army. Anyway, they had to fight an industry to even preform over most of their career. Not many bands would have survived let alone had the success they have had with everything they went through. Some of their own doing, most was not.
Heart is incredible!! So many great songs for you to react to, and I’ll add another vote for their version of Stairway to Heaven from the Kennedy Center honors.
What's Crazy is the studio version is such an epic track and for them to go out there on national TV and deliver the goods the way they did speaks volumes about the talent of the band as a whole. It's a very ambitious arrangement and to pull that off live....amazing!
Anne and Nancy Wilson (Heart) have been kicking ass for what seems like forever! They are at the top of the rock food chain all gender aside! Anne’s voice is still incredible 40+ years later; “Barracuda” is in my opinion their hardest rocking song and should go on your list to react to. Great reaction gentlemen 👏😊
I came to realize that Nancy Wilson was a fabulous guitar player . Unfortunately as I have gotten older. Thanks again fellas to a great reaction. Much appreciated 🙏
They had the one sister who plays acoustic, one full time lead guitarist and then the keyboard player came out to help on guitar as well for this performance....
I was in high school when we would go to someone’s house and watch Midnight Special. (It came on at midnight, hence the name) So many great, iconic groups played. So many great memories of this.
Good eye gents! Yes, Howard Leese served both positions as backup lead guitarist AND keyboard/ synth player. However on their original single, Magic Man, during live performances, sister Nancy who traditionally plays lead acoustic guitar (and backing vocals to Ann) subs on the synthesizer while Howard and Roger Fisher battle it out on dueling elec guitar solos. Their original (1975-1979) was extremely talented and versatile.
Heart is one of the great bands to come out of Germany in the 90s. The lead singer and drummer are cousins and from the Heart family of Dresden. Amazing musicians.
Nancy Wilson did the acoustic intro, Anne Wilson was in the blue dress- one of the best female rockers ever. They are sisters. You probably heard Barracuda by them- if not you should do the live version- has killer guitar work and drum work on the level of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song"
I saw them around the time of this video, August 16th, 1977 at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It was the night Elvis died and they dedicated Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll", the last song of the night, to the King.
Ann and Nancy Wilson were the focus but they owe a lot to the other band members: Roger Fisher[guitar], Steve Fossen[bass], Howard Leese[guitar], Michael Derosier[drums], for being such a dynamic, impact band.
I was blessed to see Heart on the Heartbreaker tour tour about 10 years ago, when they performed an entire set of Led Zeppelin songs featuring Jason Bonham on the drums. Magnificent! Michael Derosier, who played for them from '75 to '82, was a very big influence on me as a drummer. It was obvious that he has deeply inspired by John Bonham, but he also had his own sound and flair.
Another great band. Of course I was in love with Ann and Nancy at this time of my life. Had the pleasure of seeing them in Daytona Beach in 1987. A couple of other songs by Heart "Kick It Out" and "Even It Up." Plus many more. The Midnight Special hosted by Wolfman Jack as I remember. Great show. Thanks for the reaction.
Though not much younger, I love watching producers react to the best of classic rock. Can see the gears running through yall’s heads!! Just know that this will show up on a track somewhere!
Sometimes I gain a new perspective on songs I've heard for years when I watch someone hear it for the first time. You guys are very musically knowledgeable and sharp so it makes me look at songs differently and I gain a new appreciation for a song that I thought I already digested. If that makes sense, I think it does. I respect the way you guys pick up on things that not everyone has the ears for.
The Wilson aisters also helped usher in the grunge music wave. They owned a recording studio in Seattle that Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and the rest of the Seattle music scene recorded at.
When I was a pre-teen/teenager The Midnight Special and Don Kirschner's Rock Concert were TV shows that showed us real rock and roll (often lyp-synched, but hey). Also, there was a radio program called The King Biscuit Flower Hour which was a show that did live concerts unedited.
These songs still get a fair amount of radio play.. and I hear them when I walk into gas stations convenience stores etc… .. that’s where you hear bits of songs that maybe you don’t know who or where or when it comes from
Definitely grab up Midnight Special. Also Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. These were shows I watched every weekend growing up. Great late 60's to mid 70's rock. Great R&B from the same era was Soul Train.
The Midnight Special was on every Friday ( I think ) night back in the day of 3 channel network TV It featured actual live performances from an incredibly wide variety of groups. Even Weather Report was on there. There are quite a few of these on RU-vid.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are sisters. Nancy opened the song with the acoustic solo introduction. they were about 21 or so in this video, and very early in their careers. I think this was 1977.
This group was very influenced and great friends of Led Zeppelin. Heart is very legendary female oriented band in music history. Huge volume of hits and songs. You guys need to go down that Rabbit Hole!!! Next song is, "Magic Man," by Heart. Good reactions!!!
If you want to stay with the female performer theme, may I suggest Linda Ronstadt. She has a huge voice that easily filled arenas all through the 70s. She was one of the biggest acts of the time, selling over 100 million records. Most reactors start with BLUE BAYOU because it showed off her range, but I loved her rock renditions. Try live at Atlanta, 1977.
Midnight Special back in the mid-late 70's was literally the ONLY place you could see Rock bands back then. I was lucky enough to catch the Tail end of it in the lat 70's, was on Saturday nights from Midnight (obviously haha) till like 1 or 1:30. There was another show before that called Don Kirshner's Rock concert, that ran from 73-81. Same concept, but much heavier bands usually. Like UFO, Nazerath and even Zeppelin was asked, but declined. Don Kirshner was a record Producer, he created the Monkees, the first real bad to ever be assembled from scratch, they were intended to be Americas version of the Beatles..
Another short run TV show was "Hollywood Heartbeat" (hosted by Fleetwood Mac's Bob Welch) and only ran one year (1980-81). This was the first time I saw Blondie, The Police, etc.
I think the fella that switched from the keys to the guitar is Howard Leese. In '98 he started playing guitar in the Paul Rodgers band and later started touring with Rodgers in Bad Company. You should get that Midnight Special DVD. Something you would definitely enjoy.
Guys, "Magic Man" is the true hit from Heart's "Dreamboat Annie" album. At least it was when I bought it in 1975 at the age of 20. 🙂 I was amazed and fascinated by sisters Anne (lead vocals) and Nancy (at that time, many acoustic guitar) WilsonI hope you'll react to "Magic Man" one day. Thanks!
Try Mistral Wind, for some Zeppelin influenced hard rock from Heart. Their talents to write, record and perform live are undeniable. There’s a reason they’ve been around so long. 🤘😎
Their material from the 70s is the best, when they had the original band members along with the Wilson sisters (Roger Fisher on lead guitar, Howard Leese on guitar and keyboards, Steve Fossen on bass, and Michael Derosier on drums). Check out "White Lightning and Wine" from their first album "Dreamboat Annie", "Devil Delight" from their second album "Magazine", and "Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer" from their third album "Little Queen". And as someone else already mentioned, just about anything from their fourth album "Dog and Butterfly" is good.
