Let's just face it - Nancy is one of the world's truly great guitarists. Like many others, she is far underrated by the critics, but not by those of us who really appreciate guitar and music in general. As for Ann. Well, like Nancy, Ann is also underrated. Her voice is pure gold. The album Dreamboat Annie is just a demonstration of Ann's talent and skill.
I don't understand the need to say everything is "underrated". Heart is one of the most successful and well-known bands of their era and the Wilson sisters are highly regarded. Who has given them a "low rating"?
I cannot disagree..for those of us Oldsters, I'm 64, the 70's and 80's was my wheelhouse of music, the two best decades for music..I saw Heart in 1983 at the Concord Pavillion in Concord California.
Vocalist no. Ann's greatest strength was talking a song and making it hers. She for the most part only took songs that fit what she could do vocally. Now that's not a bad thing. It's very smart. Do what you do best. Ann was always doing her, not someone else. Ann has a great rock voice I'd say. There would be no many in front of her if any. Heart was best at sounding the same live or studio. Not many group can say that. I'm betting none of the female no talents of today could pull it off. WAY over autotuned.
I was fortunate enough to catch this tour in Austin Texas, 1980. One of the most memorable events of my life. I attended with my big sister who bought us tickets. I was only 16. She was a student at UT Austin. Lost her in 2016 to cancer. This tour and that concert is a great memory. Thank you Heart for being an amazing group of artists and bringing a great thing to the world.
I can die in peace knowing that I lived in one of the greatest times for music ever. Led Zeppelin, the who, the stones, could go on and on but Heart has a special place for me.
Well, my personal choice over Benatar would def'ly be Chrissie Hynde, but Pat could rock it for sure. But for what Ann brought, wow, beyond her there's probably only Janis.
I just discovered this song a couple weeks ago (45yo rocker) somehow I missed it but it is their grooviest, funktified song, this album is their zeppelin 2 & I’m now a fan, never didn’t like en but now I got a reason to dig deeper & me likey. There aren’t really that many bands who you can legit count 10 songs as good/gteat & if you check their discography, they’ve got a good plenty. Honestly, give it a shot, try to find as many bands as you can that have a legit 10+ songs that 75% of the general public knows
+charlie dee Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Annie Haslam Jerney Kaagman, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Sonja Kristan (last one probably spelt wrong. But Ann is certainly on their wavelength!!
I love Seattle and I love The Wilson Sisters! I saw them at The Paramount in Seattle many yrs ago. What a Show!! Heart Rocks!!!! Nancy on that Stage was unreal. And Ann also.❤😂😅😊😮
If you was blessed to live in the greatest time in mans history having the most beautiful exciting incredible music creation ever to have been stum on the string of a six string to feel the concussion of the drums who new where the drums sticks would take us to walk in a times passed where the music created. Became the very vehicles that transported us all back to those special people places and times they are known to us as the60 70'80the music was alive itgave life to humanity it always will
Best voice in rock music. Ever. Male, female, and everything in between. Period. No one else has that combination of power, operatic range, and just plain badassery.
@@marcschneider4432 Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury can run circles around Ann with their eyes shut. She is great but but not better than Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday or Janis Joplin.
Hard to believe that it was only 38 years ago that this song was kicking ass on the radio while I was cruising around my small southern 8 red-light town in my beat-up punch buggy!!
Yea Monck's corner sc you pict me up off a Bass boat at Cypress garden boat land ing boy was that a good hot summer night baby girl you remind me of Ann will son every time I hear her voice i remember baby
Wow! I was at this video shoot! Haven't seen this in years. I remember it being really hot in the room where they were filming. They were using smoke machines and after awhile everyone was dying of thirst. They actually had no water to give us, so Ann got into one of their coolers and started handing out beers. She gave me one and I wasn't 21 yet so I thought that was really cool. LOL! It was a really fun day.
@@briansataray2467 depends where you were.. my dad lived in Fairfax Va. where you had to be 21, but inside the beltway of DC the drinking age was still 18. That was back in the mid 80's, when I was but a wee lad still tryin' to grow lip-fuzz :-)
This is the perfect "You don't appreciate me, take me for granted, get your sorry ass together & give me the love I deserve!" relationship song. Love it! 💗🎶
What an amazing time to have been alive in. We got to experience rock and rolls greatest bands and moments. Wouldn't have it any other way. Long live rock and roll!!!
You got that right Tony I was born in 61 so I got to experience the greatest Rock era of all time Late sixties seventies and eighties Wouldn't trade it for anything.
Seriously. I'm glad we can't see into the future...that would be horrible to know that there will be a day when music, which was a more significant part of most people's lives (just by the majority paying serious attention to all the incredible music coming out, decade after decade (I was born in '64). Music back then reflected our lives as a population, and for the 1st 35 years of my life, music "changed" me. It changed us...it was so impacting, it influenced our baseline perspective on life as a whole. Just my stance on it, anyway. At 10-12 years old, my best friend and I would skateboard down the the local Sav-On almost daily to just sit on the floor of the magazine isle and basically read the latest Circus (rock musician's magazine) issue cover to cover. Circus and Rolling Stone. And in remembering that, I'm reminded of how excited we were to listen to, see, talk about, learn about our favorite bands. It was a major part of us kids' thought-life. Kids in general today aren't doing anything of the sort anymore. There are some "moderately enjoyable" songs still coming out, but I'm betting most would agree that there's no music coming out anymore that goes straight to the depth of our souls when we listen to it. A good song to day is likely one that's just fairly "catchy" as far as an upbeat rhythm. But creativity is *long gone* (has been for 20 years; songs coming out today don't sound that much different than those released 15-20 years ago. Character. Listen to anything that made the top 100 on the singles charts between 1950 and 1990, especially by about '65 through '80...and you might find that it doesn't sound like any other song. Songs back then each had their own highly individual, unique character. No other big hit from the '70s produces the same feeling as Even It Up. No other song grooves quite like it. Songs back then were loaded with individual character and "feel". Today, if I listen to 10 songs on 103.9 (Alternative station here in CO Springs), 4 or 5 are going to have a very similar feel to them. Being that they're not really the product of strong and dramatic inspiration (from the awesomeness of life), but more so the product of the band having a good day while playing together, having composed a song that might just be "fitting" to play on the radio. And now...a little something from a highly influential figure on the scene in the late '70s, helping to inspire what would develop into New Wave and Punk...Elvis Costello: I was tuning in the shine on the late night dial Doing anything my radio advised With every one of those late night stations Playing songs bringing tears to my eyes I was seriously thinking about hiding the receiver When the switch broke 'cause it's old They're saying things that I can hardly believe They really think we're getting out of control Radio is a sound salvation Radio is cleaning up the nation They say you better listen to the voice of reason But they don't give you any choice 'cause they think that it's treason So you had better do as you are told You better listen to the radio I wanna bite the hand that feeds me I wanna bite that hand so badly I want to make them wish they'd never seen me Some of my friends sit around every evening And they worry about the times ahead But everybody else is overwhelmed by indifference And the promise of an early bed You either shut up or get cut up; they don't wanna hear about it It's only inches on the reel-to-reel And the radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools Tryin' to anesthetize the way that you feel Radio is a sound salvation Radio is cleaning up the nation They say you better listen to the voice of reason But they don't give you any choice 'cause they think that it's treason So you had better do as you are told You better listen to the radio
Look at a band like "Blues pills"(just one example of thousands of great bands with real musicians playing instruments and have talented singers) and then say that again. You just have to look for them.
@@flottpale1 Here and there I find something that sounds good. But in those days all one had to do is turn on the stereo and something good was playing.
@@flottpale1 There are still a lot of good new bands out there but back in the day you didn't have to look for them... All you had to do was turn on the radio !!!
Rock is proper music and i dont really care the fact that people make fun of me and take the mikcy out of me because i like rock and they like rap or pop but i thank rock for 3 things 1 making great bands 2 my gilrfreind who likea heart like me weve been 2 concerts together and i love her with all my heart and finaly you guys my fellow rockers keep on rocking
Great song, one of their most underrated hit songs of their career, the classic rock stations don't seem to play this song as often as their other hits
@@RichardBrenkley U betcha, Rich. Another thing that I like about "Even It Up"; the bass player (Mark Andes, who previously played w/Firefall & Jo Jo Gunne). He fits the mold of "underr8d".
Heart is one of the few bands where I can play almost any of their songs and love it. Most bands have one or two good or even great songs and the rest I don't care for. Heart is all hits all the time baby!
I have made 2 CDs 1 I call heart rocks of their "rockin stuff" and 1 of their romantic ballads . I have not done this with any of my other music ! They are multi talented .
This this is great party music rock and roll music at its best this is my kind of rock and roll music this is the best rock and roll there is I love good rock and roll like this doesn't everybody
There was a young lady named Arlene who I got close to while we were both stationed in Korea. I played this song quite a bit during that time as a military DJ on the night shift. Then, when I returned to the states, Arlene sent me a Dear John letter. This song still sticks with me as bittersweet. That’s the power great music can have for the rest of your life.
The year of the cat does the same thing to me. I was 19 she was 32 and I knew I was too young to stay with her. I still think of her whenever I hear that song. It's been 42 years now
You don't hear this one on radio too often. Fine track, Tower of Power horns in back. Somehow the pre-MTV rock videos (especially from 1978-80) are especially fun to watch.
I'm so glad to be able to watch these live videos of Heart from the days of my youth. I love the sound of Ann Wilson's voice more than any other singer's. Nancy and the rest of the band did more than give Ann an accompaniment to her voice, creating textures of sound that wrapped around the souls of their listeners, carrying them away into another world. Not only is Ann my favorite female rock vocalist of all time, but Heart is my favorite rock band of all time.
