As promised, here is a music video featuring my new guitar, the Maton EBG808c Nashville Series guitar. This is the very guitar featured in the Tommy Emmanuel mini-concert that I posted the other day from the Maton booth in Nashville on Saturday, July 13, 2019. I was honored that Tommy was the first person to play this guitar after I bought it, and I'm so pleased to share my first video featuring it.
The song is "Heart in New York" written by Art Garfunkel. I remember watching the now famous 1980 Central Park concert on TV, and when Garfunkel sang the lyrics, "New York...looking down on Central Park," I could just sense that a very special moment had just taken place. The song has stayed with me through the years, and it evokes a memory as powerful as if I were in attendance for that special event.
For the guitar players out there, here is a little more guitar talk since I've gotten several questions after posting about the acquisition, and the subsequent Tommy Emmanuel video. Firstly, no, it's not "better" than my beloved Taylor. It's just different is some very good ways. I played four shows this week, and had the opportunity to discover some of the unique strengths of each guitar. The tone woods for the Maton are Australian blackwood back and sides, and a spruce top compared to the maple back and sides with spruce top on my Taylor. I'm using Elixir medium nanowebs strings which is also a difference from the Elixir Custom Lights I use on my Taylor. The mediums just seem to fit the guitar. I'm playing in dropped D again with my G7th Performance 3 with ART on the third fret (for no other reason than I like it there). And, I recorded this with my iPhone using my iRig. I am using some delay and reverb too...like my capo, I just like the sound of it. Tommy's performance was without capo or effects, so it sounds great either way.
Hope you enjoy the video, and I look forward to many wonderful hours to come with this guitar if the Lord allows. In the lyrics, Garfunkel said there's a heart in New York, but let me say that there is a heart in so many of you who watch these videos, share, and encourage me like you do. I really appreciate it more than you know. Each one of you is far more than a number and a like to me, and I only hope to return just a little of the joy that you have given me. #MatonGuitars #G7thCapo #SimonandGarfunkel #fingerstyle
