Today's musical offering is a beautiful love song about redemption. "Bless the Broken Road," has been recorded by several artists, but perhaps it's best known as the Grammy winning single by Rascal Flatts. The lyrics are beautifully poetic, and the message is one that resonates with me personally.
I think it's a safe assumption that a lot of couples out there identify this song as their love story, but for me, as a Christian, the song takes on an even deeper meaning. For me, the opening lyric, "I set out on a narrow way many years ago," describes the birth of my new life in Christ followed by a telling line that describes the subsequent reality that sets in very soon after the acceptance of that saving grace. It describes a scenario that happens sadly in numbers too numerous to count, and is recounted in this telling line... "But I got lost a time or two, wiped my brow and kept pushing through." This reality about that walk with Him is my story, and frankly, the story of every Christian I've ever met
Such is the Christian walk. Like the song says, in the end it is not about how straight I walk on that narrow way, but about He who blesses even my mis-steps to lead me home.
Proverbs 3:6 "In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight."
