I never share my story on social media. I only do it here in response to Dan’s passionate appeal. I was a WWII refugee, in a sea of refugees. I spent my formative years in an orphanage in the Himalayan mountains. The winters at altitude were cold which thin blankets could not warm. I remember vomiting into my bed one cold night. I cleaned the bed with the sheet. I slept only with the remaining blanket.. Love was not a concept I understood. No word of encouragement was ever spoken to me. Worse, I did not know these concepts existed.. I finally wet to live with my parents in junior high school. By that time, I had determined that depression was a decision. I did not know that I was experiencing a life-long depression. Then, I went to a Christian church. The pastor, Chuck Smith, invited all who would come including hippies, many of whom became Gospel musicians. It took two years before I realized that accepting Christ as my savior was the only decision I would need to make to make it home. Recently, I heard Dan’s Amazing Grace. His music transcends the soul. Much love and thanks to you, Dan for carrying the wounded on your musical back. Like the Marines, no one left behind.

This song is special to me❤ I spent several years in a pit of depression. When I crawled out, my love for music had disappeared. I didn't listen to music for 15 years. A friend sent me amazing Grace. I didn't open it right away. Then one day I decided I would. I wondered how this metal guy was going to butcher the song that I once loved so much. And then you opened your mouth. By the time you got to bright shining as the sun, tears were flowing, my heart was full and I felt my soul dropped to its knees. I had a comeback to God moment and my love for music was reborn. So on a day that I was so bored I actually opened a music video, that I didn't want to hear, by somebody I had never heard of, expecting the worst and yet getting the best. I felt the Lord reach out And touch Me through your sound. And I thank God everyday that He did. That was about 5 months ago. Ever since then I have been drinking you in like a tall glass of ice water on a hot summer day. And Lovin the old stuff I left behind and discovering the new stuff I haven't heard yet. So I just want to say thank you so much.❤ You are super duper special to me😊❤🔥

Well Dan, you broke my heart with your introduction. Many of my family members from generation to generation have suffered, fought, won, and unfortunately lost this unremitting battle. From father to daughter, to grand daughter and on it goes. I have lost cousins and aunts and uncles to this ravaging anguish. Finally, in recent medical history there is help to correct brain chemistry and improve lives. The hard part is getting someone who is so devastated to accept help, much less ask for it. This holiday season is especially difficult for people struggling with depression. I will be sharing this video with loved ones and friends. Wir alle sind gefordert hinzuschauen, Menschen zuzuhören und - wenn benötigt und möglich - Hilfe anzubieten. Der Tod darf nicht der letzte Ausweg sein! Danke für diesen kraftvollen Song - dafür, dass Du das Problem (damals schon, als es eigentlich noch ein Tabu war) zu Deinem Thema gemacht hast; mit einer berührenden und stärkenden Interpretation! Depression is a constant black cloud that has been - seems for most of my 63 years an never ending battle . Those who have not experienced it have no idea of the Hell one must tread through at times. So many times, my will and my knees have buckled me to the ground, screamed my pain in silence and tears only the angels have heard. I never thought I would live this long, go thru the ending of my marriage and having to face the world again on my own. But here I am. Thanks for the Battle Song.

My brother killed himself in 2011. It hurts everyone who loved him and shattered our lives. An anti depessant caused the suicidal thoughts. Thank you Dan for this ❤

I lost a dear friend to suicide, later her husband found out she had been suffering with a malignant brain tumor and had never told anyone, it was devastating to her family and all the friends who loved her. Suicide is as bad or worse now, than when you first did this song. In the USA 22 veterans commit suicide every day, it's heartbreaking that we can't seem to help them recover from the mental and physical trauma they receive serving our countryl This video spoke to me, your speech, especially, please redo this to help your new fans and the people they love, you would probably save lives by doing so. God blesses you with your beautiful voice and I know you have a kind loving heart.

He was a highly decorated hero in the Army, having fought in Iraq and Afghanistan for almost seven years. This is one of my favorite songs you've done. Thanks for bringing attention to depression caused suicide. As a Christian I want everyone to know, JESUS tells us to take all our pains, worries to HIM in prayer and cast them all on HIM because He loves us so much! I am walking proof of how powerful praying in the name of JESUS is! Never think something is too hopeless or too big that GOD can't fix!

I watched this a month or so ago, and well, was at a loss for words, something rare for me, not only when speaking but when writing as well. The words just didn't come to me, and what did was jumbled. After watching Manowar and reading the lyrics for this song, wasnt too excited, then you threw your words and voice into the mix and it all changed. I worked for my primary care doctor for years, we worked 8-9 hours together at one office, then the evening shift at a different office for another 5 hrs, so yep, a lot of time together. I was struggling and could feel the walls closing in, but no one knew. I finally went to the nurse's station and told him I needed to go on anti-depressants, he just laughed it off, saying I didn't need that stuff. I understood his reaction, I was after all, always happy, smiling and laughing. I said, "you know me, (which he truly didn't) I wouldn't ask if it wasn't absolutely necessary." It broke my heart to see the look on his face, the color draining from it, and he said, "absolutely, whatever you need".... it didn't take long to get back to myself, or who others perceived me to be, it also wasn't the only time I had to ask, but it's all good, at least I was able to ask. I'm not sure what can be done to help others, mostly, people need to be willing to listen to others, not just blow them off, or say you need to get over it, nope, it's not that simple, again, you need to listen. You also need to choose your words carefully, I'm good at both, just not so good at speaking about myself. I think maybe by starting in elementary school, with the kids meeting in small groups once a month and having different kids in the group each time, letting kids know it's ok to talk, listen and to ask for help if needed. As I listened to your words and then sing, it brought new meaning to me. It's hard to put your voice into words for me. The deep depths your voice reaches down to, and then pulls the soul upwards, well, it's absolutely amazing to me....

I fell into a deep depression in college after nightmare experience that left me emotionally scarred. I did make 3 suicide attempts but God had sent me a guardian angel, a leprechaun who willed me to live and fight.That encounter with the worse monster imaginable still haunts yin my dreams at night. I found this song of Dan's when I woke up in a panic from a nightmare. Dan's powerful rendition of this song gave me strength. I eventually went back to sleep, and Dan's voice echoed in my mind all night. So this morning I shared it on my Facebook page. My close friends know and will understand. Hi Dan I came across this cover a few months ago while my sole mate was in the hospital having part of his leg amputated due to a diebetic sore that destroyed the bones in his foot and feeling very depressed and wondering what we were going to do. Your rendition of this song gave me hope and helped me to cope and over come my depression and for that I truelly thank you. When my anxiety is at its peek i go to your channel and listen to your covers until my anxiety comes down or goes away. Your vocals are very soothing and calming for me. Again I thank you so much.

I thought I had seen every video on this channel, but somehow I missed this one. Right now, everyone in the world who is learning about standing against both oppression and depression (the first can definitely cause the second)--including both Christians and others--need to hear this over, and over, and over again. This stance is something I learned a LONG time ago (between ages 12 and 26), when I did my very best to walk away from the ONE who was my strength, and whom I had known strongly since birth. I did that, because I didn't want people to call me CRAZY any longer, because I was always telling them that I knew God face to face, and I spent time with Him, and not always on Earth. During those early years, from ages 2-12, they would either just laugh, or simply call me NUTS, and walk away. During my "walk-away" years (12-26), I tried to fight HIM, thus making it a lot harder to fight the REAL ENEMY. When I finally turned, resolutely looked BACK into God's eyes again, and gave up trying to "make friends with" the darkness, I saw where my REAL STRENGTH had been hiding for all those years. Since that time, I have never turned away from those eyes. My STRENGTH is in the LORD, and in Him alone. HE has never failed me in any way, shape, or form. Even when I thought I didn't want Him there with me, He refused to leave, and He never quit talking to me--even when He knew I didn't WANT Him to. He is my beating heart, and I will NEVER again forsake HIM. In HIM, I STAND...no matter what. Period.
