As a 67 Yr old retired psychiatric nurse this hit me hard. It made me weep for the ones that I couldn't help cos let me tell you you never ever forget them. The first time I heard this song, I cried, but I still feel the hope and strength in this song as well. I still get emotional every time I hear this song. Dan puts all his emotion in his voice and face and it's wonderful to behold!

Dan lives this song because he's fought his own bouts of depression. He knows how it feels. I've heard him talk about it a few times. This is such a wonderful song and his performance of it is amazing as are all of his songs. I've lost a cousin to suicide as well. So the tears were flowing for sure.

Dan the beautiful sole fought his own demons and defeated them, thank god he had the strength to stay with us! In doing so he has helped so many of us who continue to fight against this horrid thing. I know since I’ve found Dan he has helped me to keep going.

I also love how he himself discovered that the part of him that needed to die was his pride, not his being. He captured in song the new anticipation of truth guiding his way "home", but without preaching. He's right, that there's only *one* way home. Thank God he discovered the way. Depression is such a hard battle. It isn't anything you can see or touch, but it can wrap your heart in it's claws. It's mourning 24/7 and doesn't go away easily. Been there enough to give my time and myself to anyone who needs a shoulder and a pair of ears

This one resonates with a time in my life when I was so depressed that I planned to remove myself from the living. There was so much physical and emotional pain that I felt it was what I had to do. I fell asleep on my livingroom floor. God showed me infull living color what my daughters life would be like. It scared me so bad. I realized that I couldn't do that to her. When I finally talked to my daughter and one of the youth pastors I made a promise to her and God that no matter how bad things got that I wouldn't end my life. This all happened in 1996. I had one episode in 2017 when my second husband passed away. I remembered that promise. I will always keep that promise. Both of my children are my life. Even my grandchildren are important to me. Thank you Lord showing me everything. Thank you for my life.

Dear wonderful Viking, (sorry I don’t know your given name), you have a very special place in my heart, right next to Daniel. ❤ I am an older grandmother who has lived and had negative thoughts about myself and still wonder why I’m still here but I will say I walked through the hell and fight the pain each day! However I have seen many people who haven’t been able to step through the fire and have ended their suffering. This song and Dans passion in it and how he said in a different cover, when you are going through hell please don’t stop in the middle,keep going because we need you to be here. You are worthy! Ask for help! (I DO know that is easier said than done), I don’t ask for help and so far I have been able to fight through it, but I do sometimes wonder! 💭 I pray for all those suffering with and from their pain. It took me forever to get through this video. I had to keep pausing it a I couldn't see through the tears. Man, but this hit hard. I've been fighting these demons for long while now. Since 2022 it's got even harder when I lost 4 dear people. A dear friend, a niece and 2 sisters, one of whom committed suicide. There are days that I think I can't do this anymore, it's just too painful. What helps is listening to Dan's music. I pray for strength every day.

Oh my God!! This...THIS!!... is my new theme song for battling my depression. And I swear Dan is my new favorite singer. Man!...His voice! Just WOW! I've battled severe depression in the past to the point that I wanted to unalive myself. It wasn't really that I wanted to unalive myself, but more of that I wanted the painful thoughts & feelings to stop. I had the place & day planned, but instead of going that route, I chose to seek therapy at the local clinic, & being I had no income of my own, they had a "sliding scale fee" (aka.. it didn't cost much). I will NEVER regret that decision. BUT, I know not everyone can do therapy for various reasons. But I hope those that aren't able to, can seek some kind of help... whether it be a friend, family, online therapy, etc. And for me personally, this song is so inspirational to keep going. Thank you for sharing. Oh, & by the way...LOVE your channel. 💕

Two years ago, my 33 year-old nephew killed himself, and last year, my cousin's wife threw herself off a freeway bridge in Germany. So devastating to our family. But even worse are the years and years of suffering these two people have been through. I have had two short experiences with depression myself, and it seems to me that depression is worse than any other illness. My heart goes out to all who suffer. I love Dan like a son of mine and pray he will never have to go through such hell again. I hope the same for you, and thank you for your reactions. Be happy, be well! I cry as I listen. My son has dealt with depression most of his life and it led to drug addiction and his fiance 11 year old daughter has attempted suicide twice. She is now in a pysc unit hoping to get medication correct. This hits very home. Thank you Viking.

I'm so glad we got to see the video on Patreon, and that I now get to watch it again, even if I only had a few minutes to say, "Hello!" during the premiere. It was actually a bit of a strange juxtaposition, since the live convo with Peter Hollens brought in a number of the same things that this song and your reaction have brought to the fore, as well, Carlo. Peter has been through quite a lot over the last few years (with two throat surgeries...the second one caused by a tiny bad knife cut during the first one). Then there was the "crud," that shut things down so hard, and he had to let all of his employees go. He's a warrior, too, though, and he will never give up, and in the meantime, he has learned a lot about himself and how important his family is, as well. I think most of us can relate, as Dan mentioned with THIS song, and as you also have mentioned (not just in this reaction), Carlo. The days and world situation we are in, presently, are definitely calling us to help each other through it all. I GREATLY appreciate your work, and the work of people like Dan and Peter, as well. What those two do with music, has helped me through a number of slumps, myself. Peter, by the way, intends to contact (actually, I think he has already done so) Dan, for a very special collaboration. I hope it pans out. He's been needing a second voice for his newest project, and hasn't been able to decide on who would work the best for the very interesting song he's doing. I suggested Dan, a couple of weeks ago, and he was VERY excited at the possibility. I can hardly wait (even if he ends up soloing...really hoping Dan will do it, though). 😀 PS: I forgot to mention that I LOVE YOUR LITTLE REMINDER GUY IN THE BACKGROUND! He looks vaguely familiar! My college roommate killed herself. A number of years later, a very close friend killed herself. It has taken me years to accept that neither was my fault. They were both in places where I couldn't reach them, despite the fact that I, too, have battled that depression monster for decades. And yet, to this very day, I still sometimes start to wonder. What if I had just...? No. Viking, it's not your fault, either. There was nothing more or different you could have done. Trust me. I've been there.

Very impactful, Viking, both Dan's spoken message and cover of this song and your honest reaction and comments. Many suffer crippling emotional pain alone, embarrassed or believing they will be perceived as weak, so try, often successfully, to hide their plight. Or don't believe anything or anyone can help, so isolate themselves or worse. Or don't believe anyone would give a damn anyway which, sadly, much of the time is true ...don't want to get involved, not my problem, etc. Unfortunately, these scenarios exist. Only my opinion, but as a 'do unto others' believer, reaching out to someone in trouble or someone reaching out to you when you need it is an incomparable gift of kindness. Words of genuine concern and interest, or if more help seems needed, assurance that seeking professional help carries no onus of shame or weakness could possibly steer a lost ship away from the iceberg, so to speak.

Viking, what more can I say? I love your reactions to Dan, always. I love Dan’s renditions of every song he performs, always. He has fought demons, as have you, as have I, as have many, many others. For many of us, those creatures, whose sole purpose is to steal our light, are always there. Sometimes they sleep, giving us a brief respite from the pain, but they are always waiting for that moment when we are most vulnerable, and most susceptible. I can see from your eyes, that you are very familiar with them. I’m 65, and have fought for 56 years to rid myself of this pain. Like many, it is a multi-generational curse. I’ve seen my family suffer greatly, and like you, I lost my first cousin to this dreaded illness. He just couldn’t fight any more, although he certainly tried. I think, sometimes, that it would be simply easier to just give up. We all need peace. We crave it. But, it is so important not to give in to that lie. This song brings me to tears every time I hear it, but they are truly tears of hope. I hope not just for myself, but for all of us. This is one demon that grows stronger with every life it takes. As some others in the comments have posted, many of us have either gone through this ourselves, know others who have made it through, and know some who did not. One of my nephews chose to take his own life several years ago- he was in his early 30s.
