Josh, congratulations to you and your Dad!! I doubled with my Dad years back when my daughter was young. They were jakes. We took them because she was with us and begged us to do it. I'll tell you what, it was worth every second! Just to do that with my Dad was one thing. But, my daughter started crying and then laughing, and she said it was the best day of her life. I'm getting choked up just thinking about it. She is 19 now. Her and I are about to try and double tomorrow morning first thing. Even if I have to take another jake for the experience, we will have another "best day"! That video sure had me jumping and yelling for you two! Thanks for sharing. Take care, and God bless.

That’s Awesome! Congrats! You’ll never forget that! We didn’t grow up turkey hunting either, there weren’t any then, I remember being a kid and having one fly over our garden when the ODNR released a few on our road.

Had a similar experience twice in I had called in multiple Toms first time it was three Toms second time it was four Toms, shot one Tom and watched in amazement as the other Toms paid absolutely no attention whatsoever to the shot and all proceeded to gang up on and beat the absolute snot out of their now deceased former companion. None even noticed me approaching until I was no more than 20-25 feet away then they about turned inside out getting away from me couple even ran into each other trying to beat feet outta there. Absolutely incredible sight I had to teach myself everything about deer and turkey hunting as no one else in my family ever hunted. There is nothing I'd rather do than hunt or fish. Nothing. Concrats on a once in a lifetime hunt with your dad.

What a great photo Josh,way to help out your Dad and make memories, I'm sure he helped you as a young man starting out afield ,but did you really shoot before him ?Wth age before beauty . Headed out tomorrow with my blushing bride for the Adirondack opener ,its finally here!

Thanks ,got to hunt with my wife ,carry my Dads gun ,used my uncles barn slate call I made and sat in my deceased buddies watch while hearing 5 gobblers singing ,but couldn't take one home in my truck ,hope you had better luck ,and my late morning spot was being logged

@paulbreuer5328 called a hen in right off the roost. Had 3 gobbling off the roost. Ended up seeing two jakes with two other hens without a shot for my daughter. We roosted birds tonight. Saw the two jake and two hen group and that other hen with a massive gobbler and put them to bed. However, another person was listening in from a distance when he gobbled before bed. Hopefully, my daughter and I are able to beat that guy to the farm! Good luck in the morning!

Yes we had competition also ,hard to find birds without others hunting them too but it can work in your favor if you make the right moves ,lots of season left ,alone tomorrow ,look forward to hearing your exploits

@paulbreuer5328 I shot my bird this morning. My daughter was too tired to get out of bed. Otherwise, it would've been hers. I didn't bring my video camera to tape it. But, I will post some videos on it to my page. Emilie, my daughter, told me where to sit even though she decided not to go. I got settled in about 0440 just below him on the edge of a 5-acre field. At 0505, I did a fly down sequence with a mouth call and my hat. Around 0510, I could see him on a limb gobbling just up to my left. I had two hen decoys out. He flew down into the field about 80 yards above me. He gobbled a couple of times. I called a couple of times with the box call. He came in on a string to 12 yards spitting and drumming right next to my decoy. He wouldn't stop strutting until I slowly raised my gun. I let him have it. Missed! He jumped up as I racked the second round. He started running away. I put him down at 42 yards at 0540. The wad was laying right next to him. I went over to him. Then the hen took off from her perch on the other side of the field from where he slept. Fun hunt! 17.5#, 8.75", 0.75" (×2).
